The U.S. is so very expensive. I have found slow travel while retired much more rewarding outside of the U.S. where the cost of living is 1/4 that of the United States. But of course some people will never leave the U.S. Great video, thank you.

Thanks! Glad you are making it work!
Though we still like traveling in the US. There are places we still want to see for a longer period, and it can be much simpler than overseas. And finding a furnished apartment for a month or more can give someone a different experience, compared with a hotel or a few days in an AirBnB, and at a much cheaper cost.

We do this domestic travel for a few years now using a 5th wheel. We are doing a 49 State Tour and we’re on our 34th State and 21 National Parks.

This was wonderful. Thank you for producing it!
I'm currently moving toward US slow travel myself. I fantasize about living in different countries, but I also realize that the fantasies may be greater than the realities.
I currently live in San Diego and plan to spend this November through next April in Tampa, where I grew up, in order to spend some more time with my mother and other family members. I'll then move again, once the weather in Florida starts to heat up.
I'm fortunate to have a job that allows me to work from anywhere, so I figure that if I want to experience a nomadic lifestyle, now is the time to do it.

Thank you! The US is varied enough that it is almost like a EU style collection of small countries, with mostly all speaking the same language. So it may be fine for satisfying part of someone’s wanderlust, with much less overhead. The we still love the history and small village vibe that you can experience in the EU countries and other places overseas. And so many people are renting their places out furnished, it’s becoming easier to actually move into a place for weeks or months and be comfortable. Glad it’s working out for you!

Those are excellent points. We love the way you summarize and present your videos, not too long and full of substance, plus the whole layout of each video is very professional. This concept of slow travel has been a game changer for us . We're not at a point just quite yet that we can do what you guys are doing, but at least we have a game plan, you have paved the way so to speak, for many of us... Thank you for your contributions!

My wife and I were considering slow travel in other countries but your concept of slow travel in the US seems more within our reach. 🙌

It seemed like a lot easier way to get a similar experience. And it is a good way to see what is an appropriate length of time for you to be away from your main home. You may end up thinking that 2 months is too long, or it is not long enough.
Pick somewhere really different than your traditional home area, that you always found compelling. With some attractions nearby to keep you engaged. Could be fun!

Thank you. Appreciate your point of view as we realize we’ve come to the same conclusion but you’ve stated it in clearer terms. Keep up the great work. I also appreciate that your graphics do not exactly match your words as if you are reading. We don’t need to read the exact thing you are saying.

Enjoyed the video. Trying domestic slow travel first is a great way to reset, experience the slow travel lifestyle with less hassle, and prepare yourself for a slow travel trip overseas. I'm always trying out different ways of traveling to mix things up and find out what works best for me. Experimenting is part of the fun! Look forward to hearing your thoughts wherever you end up going. Happy travels!

Thanks for the comment. We are planning to see what we feel like in the fall, and decide on a destination then. That may be one of the benefits of doing something domestic. Less preparation and planning required. Just sort of see what lodging deal is available at the destination, and head out on the trip…

I like the idea, but it should be mentioned that slow travelling in the US or Canada might put people off due to the price. Accommodation and food are ridiculous. The distances and lack of good transportation that is exorbitant might be misleading.

Is this guy not aware how expensive the usa is now.

In the video I pulled up online listings for month long stays at furnished apartments in New Orleans starting next week, and the prices were clearly visible. Lots of furnished places around 2K a month.
June is off season, which is the cheapest time to do that type of travel.
I agree that everything is expensive in general, but it is unlikely that prices will go down in the future...

We have traveled in motorhome around America for the last two summers. Too dang expensive; I can't even imagine renting an apartment or hotel for the same time frames. Then, the costs of eating out or even groceries is outrageous. No thanks; our plan is to be out of America within 2 years and slow traveling SE Asia for a long, long time. I've been to Asia several times and it's just not sustainable to slow travel within America unless you are pretty wealthy or drive up your debt.

The only flaw in your logic is that you can slow travel in the US for the same amount of money that you can do it in other countries.

    • @89daysaway
      @89daysaway  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

I don't see that as a flaw. The cost is not always the primary factor. We had been slow traveling in the EU a lot over the last few years, and were getting frustrated by things like a lack of a vehicle, not being able to bring things with us, etc. Doing longer trips in the US can be a lot more comfortable. We just got back from 6 weeks in upstate NY (Saratoga Springs), where we took a SUV full of things with us (Computer monitors, ebikes, dog, etc.) It was super comfortable. Lodging was $100/night for a 3 bedroom large apartment, but no transport costs (auto rental, airfare, etc), so there was some general cost savings. It was great as a relaxing change of scene...
