  • We got an egg washer! They’re a little pricey, but worth it if you’re washing a lot of eggs. The eggs get good and clean, and my time standing at the sink washing is cut way down!
    Check them out! ⬇️

    We love ours. We have 3 in a large sink. We wash 20-25 dozen a day. It is a lifesaver and a timesaver. Fully endorse this product.

    You never want to wash eggs that you hope to hatch. If you wash the bloom off of them they will not hatch. BTW Great video THANKS

      Thanks I still really like the Little Egg Scrubber! I actually do wash and sanitize my hatching eggs too. However, currently I do them by hand. I’ve got a video on how I do that too 😊

    Thanks for showing doing duck eggs in the machine too. Do you find this doesn't remove the dusty/discolored dried bloom off of duck eggs well? I hand scrub my duck eggs because they have a brownish patchy colour to them otherwise and for selling that's a turn off, plus I find the duck eggs to just be dirtier than the chicken eggs. I'm looking at the egg scrubber to clean my duck eggs and save my arms. Will I still end up washing them all by hand after they've gone through the machine to get them looking uniformly white?

    • @ElbonMillFarm
      @ElbonMillFarm  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes unfortunately 😩 I raise Cayuga and their egg coating is black and for some reason that weirds people out. So I do hand scrub them after I run them through the scrubber. Not the ones we eat at home, but the ones that I sell. The electric scrubber saves me a little time though, because like you said, the duck eggs are always messier than chicken eggs ever are.

    You should never wash hatching eggs.the bloom is critical.

    • @ElbonMillFarm
      @ElbonMillFarm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The bloom is only critical if you’re hatching in unsanitary conditions. If you’re hatching in a sterile environment, washing and sanitizing the eggs actually increases hatch rates. It’s how the large hatcheries do theirs.

      I ordered back in June and my shipping was pretty quick. I do think they’re a small company though, so I could see with the number of new chicken farmers this year, perhaps they’ve had a bunch of orders come in all at once?

      Mine are the racks that go in my cabinet incubator. But if I was ordering trays just for drying eggs, I would probably order these. They’re a good deal cheaper than the egg trays for the bator.

      I pick the stray feathers and straw out, rinse it really good with hot water and let it air dry. I would guess you could mist it with peroxide or bleach afterwards if you wanted.

      I honestly don’t know. I don’t have geese to test in it. I’m gonna guess probably, just because how large they are. You might email the company and ask. Maybe they have different sizes? Not sure though.

    Ten minutes to soak eggs? Not a good idea as they are porous. Hand washing and sorting is so much quicker. Why would you take all the bloom off eggs that don't need to be scrubbed?

    • @ElbonMillFarm
      @ElbonMillFarm  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just go with what works for me and offer it as an option for other people to experiment with for themselves. 😊 This method has improved my hatch rate dramatically and cut early bacterial deaths down to almost zero for me (the dreaded “red ring of death”). I also incubate in a sterile cabinet incubator, so if I didn’t sanitize the eggs first, I’d be introducing bacteria into my incubator.

    • @ElbonMillFarm
      @ElbonMillFarm  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry, I thought this comment was on my egg sanitizing video. 😬
      I don’t find hand washing faster when I’m washing 300+ eggs. Back when I was only washing a couple dozen at a time, I had the time to stand there and hand wash, these days I just don’t have the time for that. 🙁

    • @maryborroum9754
      @maryborroum9754 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am licensed... I get about 250/day... I only hand wash what is to dirty to be placed in racks and put over a bubbler. What ever works for you but I would be very concerned about taking all the bloom off... Interesting that your hatch rate improved and mushy chic disease decreased...

    • @ElbonMillFarm
      @ElbonMillFarm  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good point about being licensed, that’s something people probably need to check into in their own state, my state certification allows me to use the method I do, but I think some states don’t allow immersion of any type at all. So people need to always be aware of their own state and local requirements.

    Do not wash eggs you want to hatch. Just pick the cleaner eggs to hatch.

    • @ElbonMillFarm
      @ElbonMillFarm  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have far better hatch rates with washed and sanitized eggs than I do with non washed eggs. The only time I don’t wash them, is if they are being left under a broody hen, because I don’t want to risk losing any of the bloom. The bloom isn’t necessary though when hatching in a sterile incubator.

    • @SNIPERSCOTTIE
      @SNIPERSCOTTIE 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My experience would say not to wash the eggs for hatching. No such thing as a sterile enviroment the bacteria will find it anywhere.

    • @ElbonMillFarm
      @ElbonMillFarm  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My hatch rate actually went up after I began washing and sanitizing my hatching eggs. It’s how the big hatcheries do it also. Some studies have even shown that using peroxide on the eggs before incubating reduces salmonella inside the egg. However, your mileage may vary. 😊
