Theory Finally Explains Why The Board Is Only Speaking Through Natalie In Severance

- As Severance Season 2 progresses, the nature of the Board and its true composition may become clearer. However, what remains certain is that its deliberate absence and reliance on Natalie are key components of Lumon’s larger scheme of control. Whether the Board is made up of real individuals, stored consciousnesses, or something even more sinister, its decision to never speak for itself ensures that it remains an unassailable force within the walls of Lumon Industries.
Natalie’s position as the Board’s liaison, despite not bearing the Eagan surname, suggests she holds a unique status within Lumon. Her selection likely serves several strategic purposes.
One possibility is that Natalie is a trusted outsider-someone not tied to the Eagan bloodline but still deeply loyal to the company’s mission. This detachment allows her to operate without personal stakes in the family’s internal power struggles. If the Board is composed of Eagan family members, whether alive, digitized, or otherwise incapacitated, having a non-Eagan intermediary ensures that their influence remains impartial and free from personal ambitions.

In real life, board members rarely interact with employees, often maintaining a sense of detachment or superiority. Natalie speaking on behalf of the board in Severance personifies this dynamic.
I think she was chosen for her teeth. Also: the board is actually the goats.
This would be kinda dope 😂
Mark is the board😅
I think the board are computers
Natalie is Lumon's spokeswoman, not only a liaison with the severed floor; she also speaks at tv interviews.
That she is; she's the human, smiling face of the AI she works for!
The board is dead. They are trying to come back through Lumon, but it will take time. In the mean time, they communicate through Natalie. Mrs. Casey is the key.
ASAT! - As simple as that
Yeah I think she acts like that with big wide eyes because they are looking through her eyes.
Wasnt there one "yes" from the board for mrs cobel wich we all heard?
Am i the only one who heard that😂😂
Yeah there was you’re not crazy lol
Yes, and it sounded just like the voice that's Kier Eagan, when they're in the Perpetuity Wing. But unless his brain is alive in a jar somewhere, it has to be a recording, or part of a recording. All it said was, "Yes."
Do you remember on season 1, there was a "MIND' location on the lumon building plan of Petey. I guess it might be an AI that speak through Natalie and is located in the same building.
Remember the building talking in the episode 1 video? The Building that thought long and hard about what people needed? It might be a thinly veiled version of saying "this place runs the people, not the other way around". AI for sure
Remember that Natalie referred to the Board as "it" not "they", which would mean it's not human and it's either an AI or something else.
The motherboard 😈
Corporate boards are commonly referred to as it
Pretty sure you’re making that up entirely. She refers to the board as “the board”. Not “it”.
@@GourSmith she refers to the board as "it" during S2 E3 when she is talking to milchick
@ I noticed that on my second watch. But it was only one time. And it’s not that strange, anyway. The board is one thing. It is an “it”. The board isn’t necessarily a “they”. It’s one object. A group of 5 or so people could be called one item.
I think Natalie like Gemma was taken unwilling when in a coma and is fully all day an innie as she just works for lumon but is more of a robot. She is connected literally to the AI of the leadership as she was actually persevered in time. I also think she was someone who was loved by Seth and that’s why he joined. He wants to be loyal because that’s all she cares about even though she’s not really around anymore.
I like your theory
Everyone forgets that we have heard at least one member of the board saying "yes" in season one
How did Cobel and Milchick setup that board meeting with Mark in the first episode? Natalie wasn't there...
🤔
Like real board of directors don’t communicate with the pions. More and more the spokesperson is the voice of the company. A likable person with people skills. Brilliant character choice.
I really enjoy the theories, and your videos are interesting to listen to! The way you present your ideas is engaging. Just a couple of small things that might make them even better - the background music feels a bit too intense for Severance, something more subtle might fit better. Also, the zoomed-in screenshots lose quality and don’t always add much. Just some friendly feedback. I’m looking forward to your next video!
Thanks for your feedback and for watching as well. I will work around it and make the videos even better. Happy to have you around.
Most likely the truth was: reducing the number of actors, but the idea made it really cryptic and matching the vibe
Natalie - natale domini, meaning "birth of the Lord", Helena - shining light, Mark - warlike, Irving - fresh water, Dylan - son of the sea Milchick - Milch is german for milk and milchick is the Jewish rule about not mixing dairy and meat. Seth - appointed one or a son of Adam and Eve. Also, you have to cross a river to get to Lumen. The lumen logo is droplet. Cobel (coble) is a type of boat. There's something about milk and water. In the show people are drinking milk where it would be more normal to drink water.
Milk in movies is representing evil consuming innocence. The only example I remember is A Clockwork Orange. But maybe in Severance it's what the goats are about.
Truly spot on observation, theory of mine is (which most certainlywrong) the board was actually inside her brain, kier served an alien race that sent a super AI as a board to facilitated their invasion, natalie is lumens boss that all feared, even the Eagans
I had a similar thought but these writers are using so many tropes it's impossible to choose which is more correct than the other. it could be simply a subconscious look into the work/life balance and a number of other social commentary subjects such as religion, gender, class and race. Also included is the topic of misinformation. unreliable narration. Learning to accept things we can't change. Change things we can't accept. Or you could go down the rabbit hole of the lore and family history all the way back to the time of Christ maybe. and come up with any number of tall tales like alien parasitic lifeforms. Most likely microscopic. Hitching a ride on a meteorite.
Definitely wrong but I love it!
Definitely some Invasion of the Body Snatchers vibe running strongly through the show.
My day 1 theory after watching S1 has been that Lumon's goal is techno immortality to bring the digitized minds of the founders, aka the board, into "clean slate" bodies but there might be issues with long term "residual memories" from severed consciousnesses still to work out. Since we now know there are multiple protocols, I don't think they've found a way to completely erase "someone." The goats could be used for prototype protocols so they don't damage the human minds and then once they work out the bugs, orphanages in the early days were horrible places for the kids so Owning one was a great testing ground for human trails. I think Ms Sylvic and Mr Milchek were a couple of those human trails, so having also been raised by Lumon since being children they have a loyalty to the company but that hospital tubing sparks memories of her mom, and maybe those paintings sparked a feeling or memory in Milchek from his youth.
I have a very similar theory I typed across video comments so often... You're bound to read it, so I'll skip a lot (just note: It encompasses where the "faceless babies come from", re-frames the "ultimate goal" differently, but casts the goats and orphanages in similar roles.) But knowing your ideas, and because of the theme of this particular video, I wonder, what is the board for you? To me it's AI, derived from what started as the original digitized "minds" but that has not only learned - but came to quietly dominate and have its own agenda- by remaining mysterious and leaving the Kier origin story intact with (unknowing) key figures (to hire, chip, do PR, security) as front. Natalie -PR front and relay person- is one such remaining figure (I'd love to know how she was selected) and no doubt a Lumon floor born and bread like Miss Huang (but more convincing, with the testing generating better results) will take over her role in time... The human drama in the Severance world is all the more more important as I think it's sort of the last fight for human "will" to prevail, in a larger way. After a few generations it could be gone. What "It" is, and whether its worth saving is what will transcend from out characters' tribulations :)
Interesting. I like your theory
@@Film_Paradise Originally I didn't think her and Milchek were severed but maybe they were severed with an early prototype and can't be re-severed with a new chip and so that's also why Ms Sylvic is interested in reintegration.

I just wonder why she was wearing red at the gala…
Did you notice even Helena had to call Natalie to speak to the Board? 😊 I need a board in my life.
You seriously do😂
I thought that we heard the board speak in season one… only once but i remember a male voice softly answering yes to a question
We did
She's definitely got the most perfect smile Deiter is ever likely to come across that's for sure!🍾
No doubt
i could not be a coincidence that Natalie Kalen is an anagram for 'antenalike'
That’s not how you spell antenna.
LOL, you are reaching man
Like an aten?
It's just like Charlie's Angels.
Natalie might be a product of Lumon's experiment...
whatever the case, she was selected. she is unique in her role. not just any role. it's amazing that we thorized about the board without thinking more about natalie herself before!
The Board did one time speak to Mark through the speaker. “Yes” it/they said
OK, I guess I'm gonna have to be the one to say it...this dude is the Mike Zeroh of Severance videos.
Thank you for coming around 😊
The board's separation and distance only superficially convey being an unassailable presence. As the board has virtually unlimited inputs and intel, but limited transmission, it may be uniquely fragile and vulnerable to rapid change in Lumon or outside. We don't know much about the "greater outside", but the Senator at the gala is instructive. There could well be representatives of wider capital interests, not just family Eagan. When all's going well, they don't need to do much, like the boards of Lehman, or Disney. When crisis hits - and this show has to have a crisis to break the equilibrium - they may not cope that well.
I wonder what Alvar Hanso would say?
Natalie IS the board.
We did hear the board once. Not that it means anything. Could easily be AI.
Just like this video
When?
@ In season one they say yes to Cobel
@@johnathanjamesdavis5842 They say 'Yes' to Ms Cobel. I forget the context now.
@@billbaggins1688 I think Mrs. Cobel asks “is the board even there?“ Then the response comes from the box, yes.
I find it odd her earpiece keeps changing sides.🤔
Really
@@Film_Paradise I hate using my left ear on the phone/earpieces so she's definitely multiple evil clones!😉😁
The board did say “Yes”
My theory is theres some connection between Bart and Irv,because they did the same thing with mark and gemma,to see if it can wake up any memory
What if Natalie is the board?
What if that's true?
The background music was too loud and distracting
Apologies for the inconvenience
Is Film Paradise really a bot?
That's my innie
Congrats. You presented no theory.
Natalie is fine!
This was already done on “Counterpart” so a small rip off.
Anyone think this has a wolfram & hart vibe?
Btw shes hot af
She is!
It’s really simple. The board is simply Jame Eagan.
the guy's who vocab is 400 years old? No way - he's too out of touch
@ Jame Eagan is the current CEO of the company, in a long line of Eagan CEOs. Lumon has to be a privately held company - the Eagans wouldn’t be able to pass the CEO title to their heirs unless they controlled the majority of the company. And with that control, it’s guaranteed that the CEO is also on the board. And may BE the board. There could be others, but Jame Eagan is on the board at minimum.
@@markkittel44 could be he's just the face of the company, not sure he's all that much of a decision maker; heard him talk(fetid moppet)?
I’m just curious how many of these videos, that try to interpret or hues what is it all about, made by producers themselves just to increase mystery about the series and raise interest in it. This is advanced marketing I think, and actually all these “hidden details to seek” etc don’t influence my judgment of the series. End to ends my personal impression is crucial about all of it. If it hold sense, keep me curious and pull me into narration as a pleased observer I buy it. Otherwise it will not be worth a penny even with all the riddles popping out here and there every episode. Let us not lost main thing about it and common sense - it’s still movie in form of series to watch. I don’t need to know all and figure out all in real time to enjoy, that even disturbs me and annoys as TH-cams algorithms give me more and more clips bout this series. Apple, please, let me watch it in peace. And actually I stop watching until all episodes will be avaliable. Netflix over Apple TV for that. I love that long weekend nights when I do 10 episodes with all food and preparation to it till early morning content after all and happy, that I enjoyed not disturbed story from beginning till end.
Just don't watch the videos then? 😵💫
@ bravo, I came to the same conclusion yesterday but thanks for the reminder. I wrote it because it’s good to exchange thoughts about that, don’t you think?
Definitely
Lol explains nothing except I should have known better
