John Doyle cooks on the Sax. Awesome ensemble. Erika's "Alright" @1:54 is the perfect set up for the break.. A perfect performance by all. So rare to see such a balance of magnificent talent shared without any showboats. Tuba Skinny rules.
There is only one girl in the world that looks pretty as a pearl and can twirl a drum stick with a bass drum strapped to her chest, and that is Erika Lewis.
Already 5 years have passed since performance was recorded. However it remains as fresh and timely as it were yesterday. Perhaps most importantly it will be with us and generations to come. This conglomeration of talent and music is so unique we are blessed to have it continue to be part of us.
THE COMBINATION OF JOHN DOYLE AND EWAN BLEACH IS UNBEATABLE. DOESNT MATTER WHICH ONE IS ON WHICH INSTRUMENT . ALWAYS SPECTACULAR . THEY MAKE A FABULOUS BAND EVEN BETTER
Well this might have been 8 years ago but it could have been filmed last week. Not only is this a fantastic song for TS but one of the best vocals by Erika by far. The vibe from this performance is infectious, even the members of the band are smiling and into the groove. How can we all keep improving on our admiration for this band and singer but we seem to? I love these sort of punchy numbers that just make you want to get up and dance. When is Jools going to get them to the UK, if anyone can it's him. Oh how I love them and with Erika on board there is no better source of music to lift you, make you feel so happy, even when you're day is dull. Having a bass drum strapped to anyone does look a little cumbersome, but somehow Erika makes it look effortless and very attractive. Fabulous! Fabulous! Fabulous! the whole band.
One heck of a tune gotta love the sad story regardless the beat and tempo lyrics make it one of Tuba Skinny's finest moments of their many great tunes!!
siete in gamba, spassosi, piacevolissimi, simpatici,...il suonatore di asse per lavare uno schianto...BRAVI..BRAVISSIMI... se potessi vi verrei a sentire spesso
I love Shaye and Erica...they could do the phone book. ( the phone book used to be this thick book that the phone company would send to your house that would have everyone's telephone numbers in it. ) (If you wanted to call someone you just looked their name up in the book, there would be their telephone number, then just dial them up.) So to sing the phone book would be saying that you were touching everyone. Thank you all for coming to my TED talk.....LOL
Just a little different to Skip James' version and in a different order. I have to say I prefer this version though: Crow Jane, Crow Janie, Crow Jane, don't you hold your head so high Someday, baby, you know you got to die You got to lay down, you got to die You know I dug her grave with a silver spade Ain't nobody gonna take my Crow Jane place No they can't take her place no That's the reason I begged Crow Jane not to hold her head so high Someday, baby, you know you got to die You got to lay down, you got to die Well I'm gonna buy me a pistol, buy me forty rounds of ball Gonna shoot Crow Jane, just to see her fall She had to fall, she had to fall That's the reason I begged Crow Jane not to hold her head so high Someday, baby, you know you got to die You got to lay down, you got to die *instrumental* You know, I let her down with a golden chain And every link I called my Crow Jane's name Crow Jane, Crow Jane Well I never missed my water till the levee went dry Didn't miss Crow Jane until the day she died She had to die, she had to die That's the reason I begged Crow Jane not to hold her head so high Someday, baby, you know you got to die You got to lay down, you got to die You know I dug her grave eight feet in the ground Didn't feel sorry until they let my Crow Jane down They had to let her down, down That's the reason I begged Crow Jane not to hold her head so high Someday, baby, you know you got to die You got to lay down, you got to die *instrumental*
I'll bet the filmmaker knows this. The lovely woman in the crowd just to Erika's right. Is that jazz trumpeter Bria Skonberg? Either way, thanks for a wonderful bit of video that captures a great TS tune!
Really an amazing song, with blend of players in and out. Also Erika. She hit almost exclusively with the right tom, but rarely with the left, although she moves it through a pattern. Balance? Rhythm? I don't know. Robin sometimes does the same
I'll have to ask Robin, but I think the movement helps keep one in close sync, a really essential matter. I often do this on the washboard too - it's mostly unconscious, the body want to be in the groove.

I think, of all their performances of this song that you can find on TH-cam, this is the best.
How can anyone be that cool and look so good with a bass drum strapped to her chest?
Not everybody can wear a bass drum. Ms. Lewis is one of them. Bett Midler would be another.

TS seems ageless, as well as peerless

I think the sax solo is overlooked. It's sweet

And every link I called my Crow Jane's name
Crow Jane, Crow Jane

tubaskinny.com/music - from the album "Rag Band"
Na minha próxima encarnação vou fazer de tudo para reencontra essa ex-esposa que toca nessa banda. É linda....
