- Transcription of "Social Call" by Gigi Gryce, performed and arranged by Benny Benack III featuring Veronica Swift. Both of them have absolutely beautiful vocals, and this cover is always a pleasure to listen to. I hope you enjoy it!
Original: • "Social Call" - Benny ...
Edit: I will only send out pdfs of the scat solos, as I recently found that you can buy the lead sheet for the song on Benny's website. Please support him if you are interested in getting a copy of this wonderful arrangement! You can find it here:

Hey everyone, I hope you enjoy the transcription!
Recently I found out that Benny Benack III sells lead sheets for some of his songs on his website, and that includes this song. While it doesn't have the scat solos included to my knowledge (most likely just the changes), it does have the main melody and the additional lyric sections.
With that being said, I will only be sending pdfs of the transcribed scat solos for this video, and will ask that you support Mr. Benack by buying a pdf of it from his website if you'd like the rest of the arrangement. The link to buy it on his website is in the description, or you can go straight to his website by searching "Benny Benack III" on Google, where it will be the first link that comes up.
Thank you for your understanding!
I can't express how happy I was to see that it was a full transcription and not just an excerpt. I love this recording!
She has such a vintage voice
So beautiful!
Its a bit of a copy of Ella fitzgeralds voice...by, 90 percent.
@@WitchKing-Of-Angmar Nothing wrong with that though!
@@felixcoleosullivan1294 why don't we all copy it, then every song will sound the same and we can all be uninspired imbeciles; good idea.
@@WitchKing-Of-Angmar jesus alright calm down my guy inspiration has to come from somewhere she sounded great and yes she was influenced by another great singer that's nothing to insult
@@felixcoleosullivan1294 I'm not your guy first of all, I know everyone in generation modern likes to use tat terminology in clear condescending matter, and going second to the first point, copying breaks you from showcasing your true pattern. I hate that I copied all of Charlie Parkers antics and phrasings for my improve, I kept missing that unique sound I gave to it which was completely different. Ever heard of light music jazz? No, because it doesn't exist, yet that is. Light music by itself does not need changing, its ultimately gorgeous and vibrant in life with such a pep attitude to it, but with jazz it can be transformed in a multitude of ways. Never single out on one idea, you will break away from true creativity and a moral understanding of exploration. Im also not really into copying right now considered one half is depressed left radical clones who all accept way too much just by peer pressure, and the other side is architecture for plain glass skyscrapers that was unique until it was copied 500 times in 3 years, ruining a multitude of cities like NYC, and now Chicago. So copying isn't exactly 'in' right now.
her voice is the definition of butter. i SWEAR.
This music is also toasting hot.
So, then what the hell have I been buying at the supermarket all these years? 😄
This transcription was a much needed antidote.
Oh man I love the sound of jazz singers. Its just bliss.
I have no agenda...........What do you think of Betty Carter?
@@eastonpeter1242 What mf? What kind of comment is this?
@@TheFertoledo I am seeking confirmation from "@shooterxc373" of the greatness of Betty Carter.
Her tone is gorgeous
Both singers sung almost like they were an instrument doing a solo. Love this so much
Amazing vocalists. The 16th note runs are impressive. Not my style but impressive
Where?

Am I wrong? That's a riff
@@erpmo3326 whatever.
@@JustinWillhoit sorry
This is some extremely impressive singing from both of them. Benny at 1:30 and Veronica at 3:38 just completely blew me away.
I just caught how when She hits the “four” quote, it’s along with the cliche of just one drink. Genius🤯
BROOOO THATS SO COOOLLLLLL
Imagine someone improvising a solo like these. Like freestyle rapping but jazz. Would that not be. The craziest thing you ever seen.
Would it not.
Scatting?
@@dylanchehebar2440 Scatting but instead of Scatspeak its words and sentences that convey meaning
You mean Vocalise?
@@robertsacks7995 but improvised
Dude that would be crazy
Every time I rewatch this I hear something new and it’s crazy how locked in this group is. Everything blends together so perfectly.
I can't even think of what to think of because this is all just so impressive, everything
Bruh, I would’ve definitely missed the turns during the scatting section
Insanely impressive stuff from the performers, arranger, and you, the transcriber!
Absolutely love both of their performances, wow. Their diction and phrasing was just so on point with where the song was going
This absolutely blew me away and shaked the foundation of everything I knew vocal control to be
Thank you so much for the scat solos Jaq!You are a gentlemen and have so good taste for the music
Yooo my man Benny getting some spotlight! One my my favorite jazz vocalists!
I am LOSING MY MIND. THIS IS INCREDIBLE. He sounds like King Pleasure.
I love how annunciated the consentants are
that was freakin smooth... finally a youtube video that really delivers.
Her low notes are just incredible
I saw the dude performing with the 8-Bit Big Band and he sang and played trumpet, legend
Veronica Swift's and Benny Benack's vocal skills are amazing but above all, they swing as hell... We want to hear more !!
Man, who are those singers? Both of their voices are 🔥! Although I personally was more impressed by the male singer’s huge vocal range, while the lady kind of stayed in the alto register the whole time.
im so fricking glad that i found this
incredible that you transcribed this. It is amazing to hear, but even better to follow along. These two got the chops!
this sounds fantastic on trombone, even alternating between the two of them, such good fun to play and some tastey blues licks from both of them I'll be stealing!
Veronica Swift is amazinggg! She’s legit and she even performed for Wynton Marsalis at Marseille. She’s the real deal!
How are you the real deal by stealing the styles of the late great black artists?
Yeah so I fell in love with these two guys. Incredible.
That Veronica Swift is a vocal queen!!!
It’s like retro, broadway, and modern at the same time amazing vocals I just listen in awe
Of course it sounds retro, she's imitating Ella Fitzgerald's sound.
My goodness, I wasn't expecting this treat 🎶💯🔥
This is sublime
I've been thinking of transcribing this one before, such a wonderful version of the song.
The shock on her face when he hit that high ass Db
The dude also sings and played for the 8bit band. They are great!
Oooh that bebop line accuracy tho-
Great song.
yall killed this fr
Oh Wow! That is great!
Wowww listened it three times in a row
1:20 Moody's Mood for Love Quote
Both are excellent! If Benny's from Pittsburgh, I knew his trumpet Dixie playing Grandfather!!
Love this arrangement!
That man has listened to his Moody…damn, that’s tight!!
That made my month……..
I had the pleasure of seeing Veronica swift in concert, she’s amazing
Perfect.

Do you remember all the good times that we had my baby girl
I'll never forget that you've got the greatest smile in the world, oh
My sugarplum fairy, don't hold a grudge
I simply had to say hello once more
And am I insane or do I really see a world
Were you and I could be together, forever
Wait, buttercup, don't slam the door in my face
Unless you really wanna spill my heart all over the place
Oh... I guess you're right, it's been a long long time since we've hung out like this
I'm trying to break my habit of you
But... since we weren back together I suppose we should try to start a new,
dear, what do you say?
Oh I can't take it
My heart is breaking
I'm laying it on the line
If you can find it in your mind that there is just
A little itsy, bitsy, chance that you might miss me
Let's give it a whirl

I should throw your heart in jail for all of it's crimes
You say that you love me and I think that its true
But why should I just sit at home a-waiting for you
When were together
it's always stormy weather and I really feel
Like sitting on a beach, with you out of reach
Whenever you smirk I get weak in the knees
But if you're a jerk I'll tune out all of your please

I'm onto all of your tricks, but if you slip up I'll show you the door
I must be crazy but I'm coming around
But if you do me wrong I'll run you out of this town
I guess that I could give you one more chance now to prove your

Is there a way to get the music to your transcription? I'm a trombone player and had a blast trying to play the "It Could Happen to You" solo but having the music without the scrolling would be even better :)
Swing…Swang…Swung!
Could you please send a full pdf of this transcription? Thanks

Chet Baker maybe?
If you told me this was a younger Ella Fitzgerald, I'd totally believe you.
Very reminiscent of "Lambert, Hendricks & Ross"
She sounds like a cross between June Christy and Anita O’Day
is that Kanye on the drums?
Chandler Bing wrote the title to this video?
