    Nice tribute to honor your grandfather. My youngest daughter got herself a tattoo of a Cardinal to remember my Mom because it was my Mother's favorite bird.
    The Bike looks awesome done up in that color.

    I love the sst, what a bike. The stack was a bit lower than my preference, but I'm betting a 150mm fork would bring that stack up nicely. Also, nice work hitting that drop on Ahab, that's no joke.

    Thanks for the video. Seeing this gave me the idea to increase my fork travel to 150mm on my Ripley AF and love it! Thanks Jeff!

    Cool background story! The SST got my attention since it's release. I too love hardtails but on the longer days out or in low traction conditions they can be demanding. A short travel fs with good geo sounds like a good middle ground between ht and full enduro bike and would shine in most trails. It would also be a great partner for all day epics.

    • @JeffLenoskyTrailBoss
      @JeffLenoskyTrailBoss  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@janeblogs324 I would have preferred the headtube to have been steeper but they wanted it slacker for "freeriding'? overall it was a great bike. The rear end was my idea because we worked on that at Schwinn.

    • @janeblogs324
      @janeblogs324 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JeffLenoskyTrailBoss with everyone using 80-140mm forks to get their desired headtube angle they could've gone steeper I think.
      The bloody headtube lower weld though, the hydro forming made that lower part of the downtube so thin (where it should've been thicker)
      They also made that weld concave, the only concave weld on the entire bike. No weld bead should be concave ever and especially not that location. They all broke at the weld root, not the haz line so I don't think they were random heat treatment failures.

    I dunno man....I have ridden lots of bike, I mean LOTS of bikes. I have ridden "fake" bike (re-branded bikes, under the same guise as Lance riding a Litespeed Blade with a Trek paint job)...While I can tell one material from another (carbon, steel, Ti, Alu, M2) on the road...I can not say that on the MTN with dual suspension I can tell. I know I can not tell an AL (Spec) from Carbon (Spec) unless I am looking down. Subtle is the least of the terms one could use as an observation in the differences between the two (with a zillion caveats). While I am with backing your sponsors 1000% and then some - you can make most materials behave in any way as any other material...what comes to issue is what is the frame going to weigh...(and, at speed on XC for instance it is a hard comparison to make). Figure, if you were on a regular ol' XC trail and blind folded...could you "feel" your steel bike as opposed an Alu bike with the same geometry?

    • @JeffLenoskyTrailBoss
      @JeffLenoskyTrailBoss  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I definitely think so, carbon is super stiff and the steel frame just has a different ride quality, it's defintiely a unique feel. A lot of it has to do with the tube shapes and diameters as opposed to purely the material as well.

    Dude, that bike breaks the mold. Big manufacturers say you can't make steel full suspension. You just need an artist's touch!
    I was breaking a carbon frame every 2 years. Went full steel hardtail.
    I'm probably going to buy the SST frame. The price looks reasonable for a domestically produced bike!
