    1. Based on my understanding, Rizal accomplish this through awakening the minds of the Filipino people that Spaniards have abusing their power. The novel shed light on the social and political issues of the time, stirring up emotions and inspiring resistance against Spanish oppression. The novel truly played an important role by fueling flames of revolution and advocating for the independence from Spaniards.
    2. My favorite character in the novel “Noli Me Tangere” is of course, Crisostomo Ibarra. He embodies several compelling qualities that make him an excellent choice for a favorite character. Ibarra is portrayed as a progressive and idealistic young man, driven by a genuine desire for reform and justice in Philippine society. His determination to bring about positive change and his unwavering commitment to his principles are admirable traits. Also, Ibarra's resilience in the face of adversity and his willingness to challenge the status quo make him a symbol of hope and inspiration. I, myself, are drawn to Ibarra's transformative journey and his unwavering pursuit of a better future for his country and its people.
    3. No answer
    Bonus Question:
The characters of Crisostomo Ibarra and Simon display both similarities and differences. Both characters share a common background as they are descendants of Don Rafael Ibarra. However, Crisostomo Ibarra is known as an idealistic young man seeking social reform, while Simon transforms into a bitter and vengeful person, driven by his desire for revolution. While both characters strive for change, Crisostomo Ibarra embodies hope, while Simon embodies disillusionment and a more radical approach to achieving justice.

    1. Noli Me Tangere was the masterpiece that Rizal made that shook up the power of the Spanish Government in the Philippines. Noli Me Tangere was about exposing the doings of the Spanish Government to the Filipino people things as bribery, exploitation, and oppressive behavior, also, as the abuses of the Catholic Church. Jose Rizal made this to raise awareness of the Filipinos about the wrong doings of the Spanish Government and encourage them to take action to seek freedom and peace. Noli Me Tangere became significant to awaken the Filipinos and Jose Rizal became successful with this book.
    2. Crisostomo Ibarra was my favorite character because he depicts an optimistic or educated Filipino returning to his birthplace in search of change or advancement. Crisostomo Ibarra possesses the intelligence, compassion, and resolve to combat injustice. He is a man that does not want violence and still believes in the good doings of other people. Crisostomo Ibarra will be an inspiration to the people because of his attitude of being earnest and idealistic and using his education to improve the country. He believed that the power of education will change everything.
    3. "Noli Me Tangere" by Jose Rizal covers a wide range of subjects that provide light on the social, political, and moral quandaries that Filipinos faced under Spanish colonial control. There are three themes: 1. Freedom from Spain, 2. Social Climbers, 3. Abusive Power. "Freedom From Spain" means that Jose Rizal showed us the social injustices of the Spaniards and call freedom for the Filipino People. The Spanish colonial administration took advantage of the Filipino people, and the Filipino people are in despair. "Social Climbers" means that Filipinos eager to go to any length to better their social position, even if it means betraying their own people. Lastly, "Abusive Power" means that Rizal depicted how Filipinos suffered at the hands of Spaniards such as guards, friars, and other government officials. They will do whatever they want because they have the authority to do so.
    BONUS QUESTION:
The similarities between Crisostomo Ibarra and Simon are that they both want an improvement for the country. They both want to get rid of all social injustices and corruption of the Spaniards and seek freedom and peace for the Filipinos. The differences between Crisostomo and Simon are that Crisostomo Ibarra is that he believes that being diplomat, the idealistic youngster, the illustrator, and education are all important. While Simon believes that being violent, racial-minded and seeking for revenge is the key for the change. Crisostomo Ibarra is being pacifist while Simon wants a war for the change.

    1. By highlighting societal inequities, questioning the Church's authority, fostering nationalist feelings, advocating peaceful reform, and ultimately leading to the rise of the Philippine Revolution, "Noli Me Tangere" weakened the foundations of the Spanish rule in the Philippines. The rising of national consciousness and the foundations for the fight for independence were both greatly aided by Rizal's masterwork. It portrayed the government's abuses and corruption, the government's treatment of indigenous Filipinos, the government's exploitation of the peasantry, and the friars' (Catholic priests') widespread influence over society. It cleared the ground for theological and intellectual changes by encouraging curiosity into the Church's place in society. Rizal inspired a wave of nationalism and political harmony in his country. Rizal's goal in exposing the truth and presenting an engaging story was to promote peaceful discussion and reform rather than violent uprising. With the help of his works like "Noli Me Tangere" and "El Filibusterismo," Rizal inspired an entire generation of nationalists who would go on to play important roles in the fight for independence.
    2. My favorite character was Crisostomo Ibarra. Crisostomo Ibarra, the story's protagonist, personifies the story's idealistic and reform-minded young adults. After finishing his education in another nation, he comes back to the Philippines determined to make a difference there. The hopes and goals of the Filipino people under Spanish colonial rule are reflected in Rizal's protagonist. Ibarra is committed to cleaning up society's injustices and evils. He plans to implement changes and strengthen the lives of Filipinos by investing in their schools, roads, and other infrastructure. His reformist objectives resemble those of Rizal, whose work he admires. Awakening and disclosing the truth about the social, political, and religious challenges afflicting the country, his actions and interactions with other characters serve as a catalyst. Using the persona of Crisostomo Ibarra, Rizal exposes the corruption, social inequalities, and abuses of power that existed during Spanish colonial rule. His journeys contribute to the story of "Noli Me Tangere" and echo Rizal's demand for a national awakening and reform in the Philippines.
    3. Jose Rizal's "Noli Me Tangere" explores a wide range of topics that illuminate the social, political, and moral dilemmas facing Filipinos under Spanish colonial rule. The colonialism theme emphasizes the Spanish friars' and officials' exploitation, mistreatment, and abuse of the native people. The story sheds light on the widespread corruption and severe inequalities in American society. Rizal condemns the social inequality and widespread corruption that further degrade the Filipino people. Rizal stresses the significance of Filipino national pride and national identity. The novel centers around the ideas of love and selflessness. Sacrifices made by individuals for their families and the disastrous results of societal injustices are exemplified by characters such as Sisa, Crispin, and Basilio. The story encourages the Filipino people to value education for its potential to open minds, fight cruel institutions, and develop analytical skills. Rizal's larger message of social reform, national awakening, and the pursuit of justice and freedom is strengthened by these recurring themes.
    BONUS QUESTION:
Both Crisostomo Ibarra and Simoun undergo transformations in "Noli Me Tangere" and "El Filibusterismo" by Jose Rizal. Crisostomo, a member of a prominent family, has made it his mission to better his country. Simoun is the fictional alter ego of Crisostomo Ibarra in the novel "El Filibusterismo." He wants to hide his true identity from the oppressive Spanish government. Crisostomo Ibarra, the protagonist of "Noli Me Tangere," has noble goals of bettering society, fighting injustice, and elevating the Filipino people. In "El Filibusterismo," Simoun is driven by a desire for vengeance and revolution. The main character, Crisostomo Ibarra, is upbeat and positive throughout "Noli Me Tangere." Simoun represents the extremism and cynicism of Crisostomo Ibarra. In "El Filibusterismo," his rage and anger are fueled by the wrongs he has suffered. When compared to Simoun, who stands for vengeance, radicalism, and violence in the name of revolution, Crisostomo Ibarra is the symbol of idealism, optimism, and nonviolent reform.

    1.
Austin Coates recognized "Noli Me Tangere," written by Jose Rizal, as a novel that had the potential to challenge and disrupt the authority of the Spanish government in the Philippines. Rizal's masterpiece achieved this by effectively exposing the social ills and injustices perpetuated by the Spanish colonial regime. Through its compelling narrative and well-developed characters, the novel depicts the oppressive system, widespread corruption, and abuse of power endured by the Filipino people. It served as a powerful tool in awakening the masses' consciousness, instilling a sense of national pride, and inspiring a desire for reform and independence. By highlighting the plight of the Filipinos, "Noli Me Tangere" ignited a movement for change that ultimately shook the foundations of Spanish rule.
    2.
Since I haven't read the entirety of Noli Me Tangere, I can't truly pick favorites, but based on the lessons, I think Crisostomo Ibarra is a likable character. In addition to being the novel's protagonist, the way he is portrayed is something to which I can connect and which perhaps most people can still relate. He was a man who avoided violence and yet espoused the virtues of society and the common good, but as a result of his suffering, he underwent a complete transformation. Even after everything that had happened, he still desired to improve society, but he did so in a brutal manner, for which I will never hold him accountable. Both of his attempts fell short, but it simply goes to show how a person can genuinely change and stop being the same after going through a horrible experience, even though most people still think you should be all right in the wake of everything that happened.
    3.
Freedom from Spain is the first theme. It is a reflection of Jose Rizal's tenacity in winning his release from the Spanish Government. By exposing the brutality, greed, cruelty, and stupidity of the Spanish colonizers, it seeks to redeem the nation and its people. The social climber's theme is the second one. It depicts the many social classes in the Philippines in the late 1800s, including how Dona Victorina and Capitan Tiago interact with members of the upper class, particularly with Spaniards, Illustrados, and Mestizos. Using abusive power is the final theme. Jose Rizal presents the Filipinos as having been colonized by the Spaniards and being mistreated by civil guards, friars, and other government officials.
    BONUS QUESTION
In "Noli Me Tangere" and its sequel "El Filibusterismo," Crisostomo Ibarra and Simon Ibarra are two versions of the same character portrayed by Jose Rizal. While they share similarities, they also exhibit distinct differences. Crisostomo Ibarra, introduced in "Noli Me Tangere," is an idealistic and non-violent reformist seeking justice and societal change through peaceful means. He represents hope and optimism. In "El Filibusterismo," he transforms into the vengeful and manipulative Simoun. Simon embodies a darker and more radical perspective, resorting to violence and manipulation to bring about his desired reforms. Both characters have a strong desire for change and come from privileged backgrounds, but their approaches, motivations, and character developments set them apart. Crisostomo Ibarra embodies youthful idealism, while Simoun represents the disillusionment and bitterness that arise from the failures of peaceful endeavors.

1.Many scenarios in Noli Me Tangere shaked up the power of the Spanish Government in The Philippines. The novel shows and encourages the Filipinos to gain and seek freedom peacefully. Noli Me Tangere exposes the injustices of the spaniards in our fellow Filipino such as exploitation, corruption, and aslo, the abuses of the Filipinos Catholic Church. Also the novel shows the power of education.
    2. My favorite character was Crisostomo Ibarra. Crisostomo Ibarra, the story's protagonist, personifies the stories idealistic and to awaken young adults. Using Crisostomo Ibarra, Rizal exposes the social inequalities, corruption and abuses of power that existed during Spanish colonial rule. Crisostomo Ibarra is the protagonist in this novel, he became my favorite character because he shows the idealistic Filipino who returns to his home for a change. Crisostomo Ibarra, or simply Ibarra is given full treatment by Kapitan Tiyago and other guests, with the exception of Padre Damaso due to some unknown reasons. The novel ended with the announcement of the dinner.
3.There are three themes in Noli Me Tangere according to the video I just watched, which is the Freedom from Spain, Social climbers, and abusive power. Rizal uses the novel to expose the injustices of Spanish colonialism and to call for the freedom of the Filipino people. The novel is set in the Philippines during the Spanish colonial period, and the struggles of the Filipino people under Spanish rule. Social climbers in the novel such as Don Tiburcio, Dona Victorina, and Capitan Tiago.
    Bonus Question:
Crisostomo and Simon were both the representation of Jose Rizal who wanted freedom from the Spaniards. They were both educated from Europe. They were both wealthy and Illustrados. Their difference is that Simoun is an embittered version of Crisostomo, he becomes darker and has a vengeful outlook. Simoun is more violent, unlike Crisostomo who is more in peaceful reforms. They both have good thinking and good planning to get in their way.

1.) Noli Me Tangere, written by Dr. José Rizal, is considered an important story that played a crucial part in challenging the power of the Spanish government in the Philippines. While acknowledging the story alone for this would be an understatement, it definitely contributed to the developing of Filipino national consciousness and inspired the nation's desire for independence from Spanish control. The story clearly shows the injustices, corruption, and acts of violence done by the Spanish priests and government officials. The terrible facts of life under Spanish colonial control were shown by Rizal. Noli Me Tangere effectively revealed the rotting core of the Spanish colonial system by bringing light on these issues, building a sense of protest among Filipino readers.
2.) For me personally the character I favored the most is Crisostomo Ibarra. Crisostomo Ibarra is the story's protagonist, and he represents a joyful young Filipino who returns home after studying in Europe. He is motivated by a desire to see his country's progress and changes. Ibarra's character is often respected for his courage, intelligence, and sense of justice. As he gets through the Filipino society and faces the injustices created by the Spanish colonial authority, his personal journey and challenges are connected with readers.
    3.)
Injustice: This theme runs throughout the story. Through different incidents of abuse, corruption, and discrimination, Rizal shows the brutality of Spanish colonial rule. The story highlights the injustices experienced by people, the poor, and individuals who dared to defy the established order. The subject emphasizes the need for social and political reforms to ease the Filipino people's suffering.
Love, Sacrifice, and Tragedy: The story's themes include love and sacrifice. Rizal portrays the personal sacrifices made in the pursuit of justice and reform. Noli Me Tangere's characters often face sad circumstances, their hopes and goals smashed by the authorities around them. The tragic theme emphasizes the high cost of resistance and the difficulties faced by people who oppose the established order.
    Bonus Question:
Crisostomo Ibarra and Simoun are both related from Don Rafael Ibarra. Both characters are motivated by a desire for justice and advancement of Philippine culture. They both have links to the Spanish elites and knowledge obtained from studying abroad. In Noli Me Tangere, Crisostomo Ibarra returns to the Philippines with the purpose of bringing about positive change. In El Filibusterismo, Simoun takes a more aggressive stance, demanding vengeance against the strict Spanish regime. Crisostomo Ibarra prefers to implement changes through peaceful methods. Through education and moral persuasion, he seeks to influence the Spanish authorities. Simoun, on the other hand, believes that the only way to achieve genuine change is through a violent revolution. He organizes acts of terrorism and rebellion in order to threaten and bring down the colonial government.

1.)Dr. Jose Rizal's masterpiece shook the power of the Spanish Government in The Philippines at that time because he revealed the different problems that the Filipinos were facing. At that time it shook the Spanish Government in the Philippines not only because the novel symbolizes something but the fact because the novel was done by a Filipino, and Spanish at that time has very low expectations when it comes to Filipino's ability to write or to even become aware of the corruption and injustices that are happening. Dr. Jose Rizal highlights the cancer of the Philippine society a seemingly untreatable disease that has been plaguing our society for a very long time. He highlights the abuse, corruption, injustices, and racism that the Spanish have been doing for so long. The Novels were capable of inspiring a revolution.
2.)My favorite character in Noli Me Tangere was Crisostomo Ibarra, he may be a son of a prominent businessman but he chooses to understand and be compassionate to the masses. He lived and studied in Europe for seven years and he can easily turn a blind eye of what was happening and become sip-sip to the Spanish to climb or maintain his social status but he didn't. He is a very idealistic man that hopes a better treatment and a better nation for his fellow Filipinos. He also emphasized the importance of education which most Filipinos at that time don't realize because it is a norm that if you were a common man you do not have the right to go to school and learn.
3.)The first theme of Noli Me Tangere was about the freedom from Spain. He wanted to vindicate the Filipinos from the unfair treatment of Spain by exposing their ruthlessness, greed and corruption. The second was the Social Climbers at that time, people who rather persecute their fellow Filipinos for them to associate and cling themselves to the ruling elite. The third was the Abusive powers of the friars and the civil guards, at their time equal treatment was not in the books and if someone powerful wants you to be purged, they can do it easily and most of the time no one will be held liable and in most cases, the oppressor will be considered a hero for the Spanish.
4.) Crisostomo Ibarra and Simoun Ibarra are to two different characters that excibit different human nature but their intent was similar. Crisostomo Ibarra was more controlled and diplomatic, he is a compassionate man and he aims to fight the spanish oppression by partly being one with the masses. However Simoun Ibarra's way was different he was ruthless and vengeful. He has a more violent way of dealing with the injustices and instead of becoming one with masses he uses his status to be one with elite and encourage them to commit more abuse to encourage the masses to revolt.

    1. Dr. Jose Rizal's novel which is Noli Me Tangere had an impact on the Spanish government in the Philippines. The novel effectively shook the power of the Spanish government by exposing the harsh realities of their rule in the Philippines such as abuses, social injustices, and corruption inflicted upon the Filipino people by the Spanish colonizers. Through its revelations, the book garnered international attention and reveals the dark side of Spanish colonialism, damaging Spain's reputation. The publication of his novel not only inspired Filipinos to plan and stage a revolution for their rights and freedom, but it also played a crucial role in shaping the nation's identity and inspiring future revolutionary movements that will led to the downfall of Spanish colonialism.
    2. My favorite characters in Noli Me Tangere were Crisostomo Ibarra and Elias because he symbolizes rizal and his diplomatic side and Elias wants to fight for the country and he is the revolutionary side of Rizal. Crisostomo Ibarra was portrayed as an educated and progressive character who seeks to bring positive change to the country, advocating for education, equality, and social reform. He aims to free the Filipino people from oppression under Spanish colonial rule. Rizal uses Ibarra's character to criticize the injustices of the colonial regime and emphasize the necessity for reform and national awakening. On the other hand, Elias represents the revolutionary side of Rizal and embodies the struggle of the oppressed Filipino people. He fights against social injustices and corruption, symbolizing their desire for justice, freedom, and independence during the Spanish colonial era.
    3. Noli Me Tangere explores three main themes: Freedom from Spain, Social Climbers, and Abusive Power. On the first theme which is Freedom from Spain, the novel reflects Rizal's strong determination to free his country from Spanish rule. It exposes the harsh realities of life in the 1800s Philippines, highlighting the cruelty, greed, and ignorance of the Spanish colonizers. Next is the theme of Social Climbers which is represented by characters like Dona Victorina and Kapitan Tiago, who show how people aspired to move up in society and be accepted by the Spanish or educated classes. They reflect the desires, challenges, and divisions in Philippine society at the time. Last is the theme of Abusive Power which is depicted through the suffering of Filipinos at the hands of civil guards, friars, and government officials. Crisostomo Ibarra's experiences, including the death of his father, illustrate the injustices and abuses faced by the Filipino people
    BONUS:
Crisostomo Ibarra and Simoun are the same person but have both similarities and differences in their characteristics in Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. They share similarities in being wealthy, experiencing social injustice from the Spaniards like other Filipinos, and having a strong desire for social reform to end the suffering of the Filipino people. However, they have different approaches in reaching their goals. Crisostomo is a pacifist who seeks peace, while Simoun wants war, revolution, and revenge. Another difference is that Crisostomo fights the Spaniards using his true identity, while Simoun disguises himself as a jeweler with a beard and tinted glasses.

    1. Rizal’s masterpiece accomplished this since the Philippine Revolution against Spanish colonial power was influenced by Jose Rizal's book "Noli Me Tangere." With this novel, Rizal aimed to expose the wrongdoings, and abuses committed by the friars and the Spanish colonial authorities in the Philippines. The novel by Rizal was important in encouraging Filipinos' sense of nationality and pride. The characters created by Rizal represented all facets of Filipino culture, and readers felt connected with their struggles, which helped to strengthen a sense of national identity. Although Noli Me Tangere alone did not directly lead to the Philippine Revolution, it definitely had a major impact on raising public awareness of issues facing the country, igniting the reform movement, and fostering a yearning for independence from Spanish colonial rule.
    2. My favorite character in Noli Me Tangere is Crisostomo Ibarra since he represents Rizal's diplomatic side. He is passionate about providing good change and advocating for the welfare and rights of his fellow Filipinos. But as a result of the personal traumas he has gone through, he transforms from a well-intentioned reformer to a more radical character who is prepared to employ more violent approaches for achieving change. Through the character of Crisostomo Ibarra, he acts as a means for Rizal to voice his disapproval of the repressive Spanish administration and to question the status quo, motivating readers to question and protest the injustices they see in society.
    3. "Noli Me Tangere" explores various themes that shed light on the social, political, and cultural realities of the Philippines under Spanish colonial rule. Here are some of the main themes in the novel:
Colonialism and Oppression: Rizal exposes the oppressive nature of Spanish colonial rule in the Philippines and the impact it has on the lives of Filipinos.
Social Injustice and Class Struggle: The novel addresses the challenges, exploitation, and limited opportunities faced by the lower classes.
Hypocrisy and Corruption: He criticizes the friars for their abuses of power by engaging in corrupt activities, taking advantage of the indigenous population, and leading immoral lives.
Love and Sacrifice: As part of a bigger fight against injustice, Crisostomo Ibarra and Maria Clara have to deal with their personal connections and sacrifices.
Nationalism: Rizal highlights the worth of embracing one's heritage, language, and culture as well as the value of the Filipino people in determining the destiny of their country.
Education: Rizal advocates the idea that education may empower people and communities to work for social and political change.
These themes contribute to the overall message of Noli Me Tangere.
BONUS: Crisostomo Ibarra and Simoun are two important characters in "Noli Me Tangere" and its sequel "El Filibusterismo," they are the same but have different personalities. Simoun and Crisostomo Ibarra both want to see justice and reform in Philippine society. Both are motivated to make improvements.
Crisostomo Ibarra is primarily driven by his love for his own country, a desire for social justice, and values education. But Simoun is motivated by a deep resentment of the friars and the Spanish government. He wants to bring down the oppressive system and take revenge. Crisostomo Ibarra emphasizes the law and education to bring about progressive, peaceful change. Through changes that would benefit the entire community, he hoped to improve the status of the Filipino people. However, Simoun takes a more radical stance. To accomplish his goals, he uses coercion, violence, and manipulation. Inciting a revolution that defeats the Spanish government and leads to the freedom of the Filipino people is what he seeks to do.
Overall, although having similar backgrounds and a desire for change, Crisostomo Ibarra and Simoun have quite different mindsets, strategies, and techniques. Simoun portrays a more politicized and resentful character who is motivated by revenge, but Crisostomo Ibarra shows idealism and hope for peaceful reforms.

"Noli Me Tangere" exposed the injustices and abuses of the Spanish friars and colonial officials in the Philippines. Rizal's novel vividly depicted the social, political, and religious issues under Spanish rule. Through compelling characters and a powerful narrative, Rizal shed light on corruption, oppression, and discrimination commonly faced by Filipinos. The novel awakened the nationalism that is asleep deep behind the hearts of the Filipinos, inspiring reform and fostering a desire for identity. It challenged Spanish rule's hypocrisy and sparked intellectual discussions, urging Filipinos to question the social order and seek change. With themes of love, sacrifice, and patriotism, it instilled pride, motivating the people to fight for their rights against oppression.
My two favorite characters were Crisostomo Ibarra and Maria Clara, Ibarra stands out with his idealism, intelligence, and unwavering desire for positive change. Despite facing injustice and personal tragedy, he maintains composure and pursues justice peacefully, showcasing determination and resilience. Maria Clara, who represents grace and virtue, also resonated with me. Despite a sheltered upbringing, she displays strength and loyalty amid adversity. Her inner struggles mirror the challenges faced by women in a patriarchal society. I admired her courage and unwavering love for Crisostomo Ibarra amidst societal pressure. They fascinated me with their complexities, struggles against injustice, and pursuit of a better future. They provided a human face to social issues, inspiring me with their virtues and unwavering spirit.
"Noli Me Tangere" tackles the realities of Spanish colonial rule in the Philippines, exposing social injustice, corruption, and discrimination. The novel explores themes of love, sacrifice, and betrayal, showcasing the characters' dedication to their country and the betrayals they endure. It critiques the Catholic Church's hypocrisy, unveiling certain clergy members' immoral actions. The narrative also addresses social class and racial discrimination, emphasizing the gap between privileged Spaniards and marginalized Filipinos. The novel’s depiction fosters a sense of national pride, unity, and patriotism, prompting a call for social reform, justice, and equality. Overall, "Noli Me Tangere" serves as an impactful critique of the oppressive colonial regime while shedding light on the struggles faced by the Filipino people.
Crisostomo Ibarra is an optimistic, compassionate young man who returns to the Philippines after studying in Europe. He aims to uplift his countrymen through education and reforms, motivated by love and hope for a brighter future. While in "El Filibusterismo," Crisostomo transforms into Simoun, a vengeful character driven by anger and frustration at the injustices he witnessed. He seeks revenge against the Spanish colonial regime and corrupt Filipino elite, using radical and violent methods to orchestrate a revolution. Both characters are committed to their country's welfare, but Crisostomo's approach is rooted in peace, optimism, and faith in humanity, while Simoun's stems from anger and a desire for revenge. Crisostomo aims to build bridges between different classes and cultures, while Simoun seeks to dismantle the existing system. In summary, Crisostomo Ibarra and Simoun share similarities and differences. Emerging from the same person, their experiences shape them into distinct individuals. Crisostomo represents hope and positive change, while Simoun embodies despair and a willingness to resort to violence.

    1. I think there are so many scenarios in the Noli Me Tangere that shake up the power of the Spanish government in the Philippines. The first one is that Noli Me Tangere exposes the social injustices of the Spaniards in the Filipinos such as corruption, exploitation, and oppressive practices, also, as the abuses of the Catholic Church. The novel also raises the national consciousness among the Filipinos, it emphasizes the need for unity and an action to the abuse of the Spaniards. Rizal highlights their aspiration for justice, freedom, and equality. The novel also shows and encourages the Filipinos to seek freedom by a peaceful means, the novel shows the power of education, and lastly, it sparked the Filipinos to become nationalists. It has a significant role in awakening the Filipinos to the injustices of the Spaniards which is why I can say that Rizal become successful with this novel that he created.
    2. There are two characters in Noli Me Tangere that have become my favorite: Crisostomo Ibarra and Padre Florentino. We know that Crisostomo Ibarra is the protagonist of this novel, he became my favorite because he shows the idealistic or enlightened Filipino who returns to his homeland for a change or progress. Crisostomo Ibarra has the intelligence, compassion, and determination to fight against injustices. This kind of attitude is what I want to acquire, I want to have the courage to fight for what is right. He is not afraid even though he is fighting people with a lot of power. That is why Padre Florentino was also one of my favorite characters in this novel because just like Ibarra he also wants to fight the injustices of the Spaniards. Even though he has the power, and the Spaniards are already on his side, he doesn’t want to turn a blind eye to the bad things that the Spaniards are doing with the Filipinos.
    3. There are three themes in Noli Me Tangere according to the TH-cam video which is the Freedom from Spain, Social climbers, and abusive power. In the first theme, it shows the freedom from Spain but the novel doesn’t focus on portraying the freedom from Spain but there are some elements about desiring the freedom. This is by promoting nationalism and resistance of the Filipinos, social injustice and oppression, advocacy for reforms, and awakening the national consciousness of the Filipinos. Social climbers are also depicted in the novel such as Don Tiburcio, Dona Victorina, and Capitan Tiago. Don Tiburcio shows being a social climber because he wants to maintain the status that he has even though he needs to pretend that he is medical expertise or has a connection with powerful individuals. Dona Victorina is so obsessed with achieving high social status because even though she is a Filipina she adopts the attitude of the Spanish and distances herself with her Filipino identity. While Capitan Tiago throws extravagant parties, makes donations, and always seeks alliances with the Spaniards to maintain his social status or to be accepted in high society.
    BONUS QUESTION:
In their similarity obviously, they have similar backgrounds and identities because they are the same character Crisostomo just change his name in Simoun. They have both desires in achieving change such as fighting the injustices of the Spanish in their colonial rule in the Philippines. They have both strategic thinking and good planning tactics. Their difference is that Simoun is an embittered version of Crisostomo, he becomes darker and has a vengeful outlook. Simoun is more violent, unlike Crisostomo who is more in peaceful reforms. Lastly, Simoun is more in vengeance unlike Crisostomo he desires justice and betterment of the whole.

    1. Noli Me Tangere, written by José Rizal, accomplished the goal of challenging Spanish government power in the Philippines by exposing the abuses and injustices of the colonial regime. The novel depicted the oppressive nature of Spanish friars and the corruption within the government, awakening the consciousness of Filipinos and instilling a sense of national identity. Through its powerful storytelling, Noli Me Tangere inspired a desire for change and fueled the flames of resistance. It played a significant role in mobilizing Filipinos toward the pursuit of social reforms and eventual independence from Spanish rule.
    2. My favorite character in Noli Me Tangere is Pilosopo Tasyo. Pilosopo Tasyo is considered great in "Noli Me Tangere" due to his intellectual depth and societal critique. He symbolizes reason and enlightenment, challenging the oppressive status quo. Through his eccentricities, he questions traditional beliefs, exposes corruption, and addresses colonialism and social inequality. Pilosopo Tasyo's character serves as a moral compass, urging readers to question authority and fight for justice. His presence inspires change and highlights the power of critical thinking, making him a significant figure in the novel.
    3. "Noli Me Tangere" explores several themes, including colonialism, social inequality, corruption, religion, and love. The novel critiques the Spanish colonization of the Philippines, exposing the abuses and injustices endured by the Filipino people. It also highlights the stark contrast between the privileged elite and the oppressed masses, emphasizing the social divide and the need for reform. Corruption is a prevalent theme, as various characters symbolize the rampant corruption within the government and religious institutions. Additionally, religion plays a significant role, with Rizal questioning the hypocritical practices and dogmas. Lastly, love is depicted as a powerful force that can transcend societal barriers and inspire change.
    Bonus
    - Crisostomo Ibarra and Simón Ibarra, characters in José Rizal's Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, share the same surname but possess distinct traits. In Noli, Crisostomo is an idealistic, compassionate young man seeking justice and reforms in the Philippines. Simón, on the other hand, appears in the novel as a minor character. In El Fili, Crisostomo reappears as Simoun, a complex character driven by revenge against the Spanish regime. Simoun embodies cunning manipulation and harbors deep resentment. Unlike his Noli counterpart, he resorts to violence and aims to spark a revolution. Both characters, however, share a common goal: to challenge the injustices of Spanish colonial rule. While Crisostomo represents hope and optimism, Simoun represents disillusionment and bitterness. Their contrasting approaches reflect the evolution of their characters. Crisostomo initially believes in peaceful reform, while Simoun's experiences have molded him into a darker, more radical figure.

    1. The novel, Noli Me Tangere, had indeed shaken up the power of the Spanish colonial government in the Philippines. Rizal, through his novel, exposed the abuses and injustices that the Filipinos experienced under Spanish rule. It showed the widespread corruption, discrimination, and oppressive government endured by the Filipinos during that time. We were treated like prisoners in our own country with little to no freedom. The novel became the fire that ignited the nationalism that is long deep asleep within the Filipinos' hearts, sparking a drive for reform and better treatment of Filipinos. As a result, the Spaniards were ultimately challenged, and Filipinos started to fight for their rights and freedom.
    2. Two of my favorite characters in Noli Me Tangere are Crisostomo Ibarra and Elias because both of them have a sense of nationalism that is very much needed by a country suffering from oppression, especially during the time when we were controlled by the Spanish government. Ibarra is the protagonist of the novel. He is a well-educated man who has an idealistic and compassionate trait that aims to bring a positive change to the lives of Filipinos through a diplomatic type of solution. Elias, just like Ibarra, has a strong desire for social change and justice, however, his approach to the solution is through revolution.
    3. Noli Me Tangere dives into different interconnected themes that shed light on the political, social, and moral issues during the Spanish rule. The novel touches the themes of abuse, sacrifice, and love as a reflection of what was really happening to Filipinos during the Spanish occupation. The Spanish government and the church had abused their power to their own benefit; corruption, oppression, and discrimination were committed against the Filipinos. Love was also shown in the novel through sacrifices, risking their lives for the greater good of society.
    BONUS QUESTION:
    - In the novels, Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, Crisostomo Ibarra and Simon Ibarra are the two different versions of a same person. Crisostomo Ibarra studied in Europe for 7 years. His aim is to uplift his fellowmen through education and reform and bring a positive change to his country driven by love and vision. While in El Filibusterismo, Crisostomo transforms into Simon, a character consumed by vengeance and frustration because of the injustices he witnessed. He seeks to dismantle the current system and bring out change, even if it requires resorting into drastic tactics.

1.) Rizal accomplished this by exposing the corruption and brutality of the civil guards which led the good men do crimes. He also showed us the corruption that was happening then. That there a Government officials who are making a lot of money at the expense of the Filipinos.
2.) Basilio is my favorite character here in the novel. He is the representation of the youth. Here, Basilio was shown as a strong-willed young boy. That despite of what had happened to his younger brother, he was still able to be brave and strong enough to take care of his mother, who became crazy upon the death of his younger brother Crispin.
Basilio taught me who how to be strong and brave enough to face challenges whatever the future brings. That is a real representation of how youth can be the hope of our Nation, as what Dr. Jose Rizal said.
    3.) a. Freedom from Spain
Jose Rizal showed us the persistence in attaining freedom from the Spaniards. He exposed how cruel they are to the Filipinos.
    b. Social Climbers
Here, he showed the different kinds of people during those time. Doña Victoria and Captain Tiago, represented those people who only wants to be associated with the higher classes of the society like the Spaniards, the Illustrados and the mestizos.
    c. Abusive Power
Rizal illustrated how the Filipinos suffered from the hands of the Spaniards like the guards, the friars and other government officials. They will do whatever they want just because they have the power.
    Bonus Question:
Crisostomo and Simon were both the representation of Jose Rizal who wanted freedom from the Spaniards. They were both educated from Europe. They were both wealthy and Illustrados.
They differ in some ways like, Crisostomo is more diplomatic and idealistic young man. He believed that education will help improve his country. While Simon, on the other hand, is a bitter, ruthless man on a vengeance. He aimed to gain freedom through violent method like revolution.

    1) Rizal's masterpiece, Noli Me Tangere was a novel that served as an eye-opener for the Filipinos especially for those people who are oppressed. Noli Me Tangere not only exposes the corruption of the government but also the corruption of the church. The novel Noli Me Tangere exposes the dark side of the colonial government and the churches which made the people delayed this paper. It did not only expose the dark side from the Spaniards but also those Filipinos who are corrupt was also called out. One example are those people who are into so much gambling even if they are Filipinos. Rizal's masterpiece served as a strength for the people to love their country more. It served as their starting point to understand their rights and to fight for the country. Thus, in the end the people revolutionized and now we are enjoying freedom.
    2) My favorite characters in Noli Me Tangere would be of course, Crisostomo Ibarra and Elias. They were both taking Rizal's side and also has characteristics just like Jose Rizal. Ibarra was an idealistic youth and believes that education is the key. Crisostomo Ibarra also takes Rizal's diplomatic side. In addition, Elias was known as the representative of the masses, believes that revolution is the solution, and also takes Rizal's revolutionary side. These characters are one of those people that wants to fight for the country just like what Rizal wants. They want their country to be free from oppression and enjoy freedom and live a happy life.
    3) There were three themes in Noli Me Tangere. They were, Freedom from Spain, Social Climbers and Abusive Power. First, Freedom from Spain. This theme was mainly the focus of the novel. Rizal wrote Noli Me Tangere to expose the dark side of the Spaniards and to open the eyes of the Filipinos to know their rights. Next is Social Climbers. Social Climbers from the novel was exposed namely Capitan Tiago and Doña Victorina. These personalities were someone who would cling to money and turn a blind eye to the wrong things even if they were aware. They think more of the money over the people of their country. Last but not the least, Abusive Power. In the novel, it clearly exposes the abusive treatment of the Spaniards towards the Filipinos. With the use of their powers, they did not even give Filipinos a chance to experience the things that they deserve.
    BONUS QUESTION
Crisostomo Ibarra and Simon Ibarra are two characters that have the same goal. I think this is their similarity, that one goal which is to bring the peace back to our country. They both wanted to fight for the country to be peaceful again and see their countrymen leave happily. However, they differ in the means of how it will be done. Crisostomo Ibarra wants to settle the matter in a peaceful way, but Simon thinks that revolution and war is the only solution to the matter.

    1. Noli Me Tangere" is regarded as a classic work of Philippine literature and was first published in 1887. In the midst of the country's terrible social and political upheaval under Spanish colonial rule, Filipino nationalist and reformer Rizal wrote the book. The book illuminated the widespread inequalities and wrongdoings in Philippine society and exposed the corrupt and oppressive nature of Spanish colonial power. Rizal wanted to create a tale that delved into the many facets of Filipino life in order to awaken and instill a sense of national awareness in his fellow countrymen. Some of the topics explored in the book included social inequity, religious hypocrisy, and the detrimental effects of colonialism on the Filipino people.
    2. Crisostomo Ibarra, a character in Noli Me Tangere who had a strong quest for knowledge as a student, was my favorite. He thinks that empowerment and social change are both facilitated by education. Rizal emphasizes the value of education for societal change through his persona, particularly in the context of conquered societies. Ibarra's education has given him the ability to assess the social and political circumstances in his country with objectivity and to see the injustices brought about by the Spanish colonial system. He envisions a Philippines free from the Spanish colonizers' oppression, where social inequities are made right and everyone has access to education.
    3. First, "Freedom from Spain" was one of the topics of Noli Me Tangere. Although it does not expressly discuss achieving independence from Spain, this theme is crucial for raising awareness, denouncing the colonial order, and sowing the seeds of nationalism and resistance. It continues to be a poignant symbol of the fight for freedom from Spanish colonial rule and serves as the driving force behind the greater battle for Philippine independence. Next is "Social Climber", which featured Capitan Tiago and Doña Victorina, represented various parts of Philippine culture that were under Spanish colonial rule. They stand for specific traits and life occurrences that shed light on the contemporary social, cultural, and political currents. And lastly is "Abusive Power." The story frequently depicts friars, Spanish authorities, and even some Filipino nobility abusing their positions of authority. These violations are harshly critical of the colonial regime's oppressive and dishonest behavior.
    Bonus Question
    - Crisostomo Ibarra and Simon Ibarra exhibit different personalities, motivations, and behaviors in "Noli Me Tangere" and "El Filibusterismo." They come from a wealthy upbringing that reflects the power and wealth of their family. They both appear to be products of their socioeconomic status and upbringing given their similar heritage. Their fates diverge as a result of how they react to the challenges they encounter. Simon portrays cynicism, desire for vengeance, and a lack of confidence in peaceful reform, whereas Crisostomo represents idealism, optimism, and a desire for constructive change. Rizal explores the complexity of human nature and the ways people react to persecution through these characters. Their divergent journeys serve as a mirror of the challenges faced by those trying to find justice and freedom in a world marred by injustice and corruption.

    1.)
Noli Me Tangere exposed the social and political injustices in Philippine society. Rizal used the book as a platform to denounce several aspects of Spanish rule, including the mistreatment of the Filipino people, the abuses committed by the clergy, and the oppression and corruption of Spanish authorities. Rizal portrayed the harsh reality of colonial life through vivid storytelling and captivating characters, focusing light on the hardship and struggles faced by Filipinos under Spanish control. It encourages the Filipino people to challenge their status and strive for change by arousing their sense of national awareness. Rizal emphasized the value of social reform, education, and Filipino unity in the face of oppression. The main character, Crisostomo Ibarra, stands up for the Filipino people's longing for freedom and justice as a symbol of optimism and tenacity. It functioned as a rallying cry for nationalist feelings and generated talks about the need for reform. The book ignited a passionate yearning for independence from Spanish rule in a generation of intellectuals and revolutionaries in the Philippines.
    2.)
Though there are many characters introduced in the novel these two stand out the most for me. I like them because they are depicting a true nature of a man should. Crisostomo Ibarra, the protagonist of "Noli Me Tangere," is one of the novel's notable characters. Ibarra, a young guy with ideals of excellence who studied in Europe, has returned to the Philippines. His commitment to social change resonates with readers and serves as a symbol of hope for justice and transformation. His tenacity in standing up to injustice and his dedication to uplifting his fellow citizens appeal to many. Elias, a mysterious and enigmatic individual who becomes Crisostomo Ibarra's buddy and ally, is another noteworthy character. Elias is presented as a personification of tenacity and resistance against the repressive Spanish government. He appeals to many readers because of his close relationship with nature and his steadfast commitment to the cause of the Filipino people.
    3.)
The novel's primary theme is colonialism. Rizal exposes the injustices experienced by the Filipino people and criticizes the harsh nature of Spanish colonial power. The abuse of authority, fraud, and prejudice towards Filipinos under Spanish rule are all depicted in the book. Rizal draws attention to the significant social disparities and divisions that existed in Philippine society at the time. By using figures such as Don Rafael Ibarra and the friars, he illustrates the dramatic difference between the wealthy and powerful ruling class and the exploited and marginalized masses. Rizal denounces the Catholic Church and the Spanish colonial government's pervasive hypocrisy and corruption. The story depicts the moral deterioration and hypocrisy displayed by some individuals, especially the friars, who abuse their position of power within the church to control and oppress the Filipino people. The work frequently returns to the themes of love and sacrifice. Rizal examines a variety of types of love, including patriotic, familial, and romantic love. Characters like Crisostomo Ibarra and Sisa show their unwavering commitment to their families and country via the sacrifices they make.
    Bonus Question
Simoun, who assumes a new identity in El Filibusterismo, is the alter ego of Crisostomo Ibarra from Noli Me Tangere. While his motivations and methods have changed, Simoun carries forward his desire for justice and reforms. He remains a determined and influential figure, seeking to expose the corruption and injustices of the Spanish regime. El Filibusterismo features Basilio, the son of Sisa from Noli Me Tangere, as a young medical student. Despite his age and struggles, Basilio still has a strong sense of justice and compassion. He develops into an important figure, continuing the fight for social change and standing in for the ambitions of the younger generation. In both books, Padre Florentino plays a crucial role and acts as the characters' tutor. In Noli Me Tangere, he plays an elderly priest who counsels Ibarra, and in El Filibusterismo, he has a relationship with Simoun that turns into a friendship. Padre Florentino epitomizes knowledge, kindness, and a desire for progress. His persona continues to stress the significance of perseverance, hope, and faith.

    1. The purpose of the novel Noli Me Tangere is to depict the current condition of the Philippines. In the novel, Rizal unmasked the two-faced Spaniards. He exposed their corruption, brutality, crimes, cruelty, greed, ignorance, and discrimination. This is considered a shake-up to the power of the Spanish government because their colony might start a revolution with the knowledge they gained from the novel. It is easy to assert dominance in a divided country and ignorant countrymen. The shaking up of the foundation will start when those countrymen start to become aware. It is like giving a blind unarmed man a vision, and it is just a matter of time before he will acquire a knife enough to make the enemy bleed. That is exactly how Rizal impacted the Filipinos. Noli Me Tangere allowed the masses to have vision and awareness, and the cost of acquiring the knife was sacrifices, blood, tears, and time. Rizal's masterpiece triggered a domino effect that soon was enough to shake up the power of the Spanish Government.
    2. My favorite character in Noli Me Tangere is Elyas. For me, Elyas is like the present average Filipino lower class. A lot of our lower class have their own sentiments about being treated unjustly. Just like Elyas, his past experiences resulted in anger toward the rotten system. I became drawn to Elyas and Ibarra because I wanted them to win their war with the Spaniards. As a good citizen of this country, I will always root for the oppressed. Elyas' personality was also admirable. He was a good friend to Ibarra, they exchanged ideals and political views. The man showed loyalty to Elyas and saved him numerous times. I admire Elyas' morals, even if he knew that Ibarra's ancestors are the people that caused misfortune to his family, he did not kill Elyas. Instead, he channeled that energy into battling the oppressors. Elyas reminds me of Andres Bonifacio, who wants to achieve freedom using violence. But in the end, it was the man's dedication to helping the oppressed that got me.
    3. There are three themes of Noli Me Tangere: Freedom from Spain, Social Climbers, and Abusive Power. The first theme is about the writer's determination to achieve freedom from the Spaniards. In the novel, he exposed all the wrongdoings of the colonizers through some of the characters of the novel. The Noli Me Tangere was the first step of the Philippines to achieving freedom. The second theme is about the specific personality of a few characters in the novel such as Kapitan Tiago and Dona Victorina. It was seen how these characters associate themselves with the higher classes of society. There was little to no sense of nationalism from them, for example, Donya Victorina smokes Tabacco and wears lipstick and European style of clothing because she idolizes these Spaniards. She is a prime example of a person who is ashamed of his own country and rejects his own culture. Lastly, the abusive power. Rizal depicts the abuses of the Spaniards ever since they stepped foot on the island. An example from the novel is how Ibarra's father died.
BONUS. Crisostomo Ibarra during the early Noli me Tangere was a diplomatic man. He is a perfect example of an ilustrado, he is idealistic, polite, practice proper etiquette, believes in the good, and wants to improve the country. However, due to his experiences of unjust treatment and corruption in the country, Simon Ibarra was born. Simon is similar to Ibarra in a way that they both wanted to improve the state of the country. They differ in their principles, Crisostomo does not support a violent revolution, on the other hand, violence is within Simon because of his revenge plan towards the Spaniards. Crisostomo Ibarra is a hopeful ilustrado, meanwhile, Simon is a dark, revengeful Filipino.

    1. Austin Coates, an insightful British author and historian, once remarked that José Rizal's magnum opus, "Noli Me Tangere," possessed the potential to rock the very foundations of Spanish governance in the Philippines. Rizal's literary masterpiece accomplished this formidable task by unmasking the heinous abuses and deep-rooted injustices perpetuated by the Spanish colonial authorities, thereby igniting the flames of national consciousness and kindling the spirit of Filipino nationalism.
Within the pages of "Noli Me Tangere," Rizal masterfully crafted a tapestry of narrative brilliance, presenting a scathing critique of the oppressive social conditions under Spanish rule. Through his compelling characters and captivating storytelling, he vividly exposed the insidious machinations of the corrupt friar system, which ruthlessly exploited the indigenous population, subjecting them to economic servitude and spiritual desolation. Moreover, Rizal fearlessly unveiled the brazen hypocrisy and flagrant abuse of power by Spanish officials, effectively juxtaposing their reprehensible actions against the noble ideals of justice and equality.
This literary revelation, infused with unrelenting honesty, had an indelible impact on the Filipino people. "Noli Me Tangere" served as a clarion call, awakening a profound sense of national pride and unity within their hearts. The characters and situations portrayed in the novel resonated deeply, driving Filipinos to question their colonial subjugation and demand change. Rizal's magnum opus not only brought the stark truth of Spanish governance to light but also fostered an unwavering determination for autonomy and self-determination.
    2. My favorite character in this novel is Basilio. He serves as the personification of youth. Here, Basilio was depicted as a young boy with a strong sense of self. That in spite of what had happened to his little brother, he was brave and strong enough to care for his mother, who had become insane as a result of Crispin's murder. Basilio showed me how to be courageous and resilient so that I could confront obstacles in the future. That is a true illustration of how young people can be our country's hope, as Dr. Jose Rizal once stated.
    3. Freedom from Spain: The novel is set in the Philippines during the Spanish colonial period, and it chronicles the struggles of the Filipino people under Spanish rule. Rizal uses the novel to expose the injustices of Spanish colonialism and to call for the freedom of the Filipino people. The Philippines is depicted as a land of poverty, oppression, and injustice. The Spanish colonial government has taken advantage of the Filipino people, and the Filipino people are living in a state of despair.
Social Climbers: Rizal uses the novel to satirize the Filipino people who are willing to do anything to improve their social standing, even if it means betraying their own people.
Abusive Power: The theme of abusive power is a powerful reminder of the dangers of colonialism. The novel is a call for all people to resist oppression and to fight for their freedom.
Bonus question: Crisostomo Ibarra and Simoun, two pivotal characters in Jose Rizal's masterpieces "Noli Me Tangere" and "El Filibusterismo," captivate readers with their contrasting personas and evolution. Let's delve into their similarities and dissimilarities, exploring the depths of their characters.
Crisostomo Ibarra emerges as a young and idealistic Filipino educated in Europe, brimming with hope and a fervent desire to reform his beloved homeland. His return to the Philippines marks the beginning of his ardent pursuit to uplift his people from the shackles of poverty and oppression. Crisostomo's intentions are pure, rooted in the belief that peaceful reforms and education can pave the way for a harmonious society.
In stark contrast, Simoun, who is unveiled as the transformed Crisostomo Ibarra in "El Filibusterismo," showcases a drastic metamorphosis. A mysterious and brooding figure, he embodies a vindictive and embittered soul. Driven by vengeance against those who caused the demise of his loved ones, Simoun adopts a new identity, employing his wealth and influence to incite a rebellion against the Spanish colonizers. His goals diverge significantly from his earlier idealism, as he now seeks to dismantle the oppressive regime through manipulation, violence, and sowing chaos.
While Crisostomo Ibarra remains optimistic and compassionate, championing progress through enlightenment and goodwill, Simoun embraces a more radical approach. Simoun's disillusionment with peaceful means propels him toward a darker path, where he orchestrates acts of sabotage and manipulation to provoke a revolution. His demeanor is one of cold calculation, driven by a firm belief that only through the downfall of the corrupt system can genuine change be realized.
Indeed, Crisostomo Ibarra and Simoun share a common lineage and a yearning to better their nation, yet their journeys diverge dramatically. Crisostomo embodies the hopes and dreams of a young idealist, while Simoun epitomizes the bitter transformation of Crisostomo Ibarra, consumed by a thirst for revenge. These characters' stark contrasts paint a vivid picture of the complexities surrounding the struggle for independence in the Philippines, showcasing the different responses to an oppressive colonial rule.

1). Austin Coates stated the opinion that Jose Rizal's work "Noli Me Tangere" was written with the intention of undermining and challenging the authority of the Spanish government in the Philippines. Although "Noli Me Tangere" did have a big impact on Philippine society, it's vital to remember that Coates' interpretation is simply one among several.
Jose Rizal's work "Noli Me Tangere," which was released in 1887, questioned the authority of the Spanish government in the Philippines. The book achieved a number of things through its compelling narrative, including criticizing Spanish colonialism by exposing the wrongdoing and corruption of Spanish friars and authorities and highlighting how harsh Spanish rule in the Philippines was.
The book made readers consider and criticize the contemporary social structure by illuminating the oppression, bigotry, and injustice the Filipino people faced under Spanish colonization. By encouraging reflection on national identity, history, and aspirations, "Noli Me Tangere" made a vital contribution to the awakening of the Filipino people's sense of national consciousness.
Incorporating ideas from the Enlightenment, Rizal questioned Catholic Church theology while advancing ideas like liberty, justice, equality, and human rights. Following the publishing of the book, reform movements arose, encouraging Filipinos to actively take part in the struggle against injustice. These activities eventually gave rise to the Philippine Revolution.
2). As a young reader of Rizal's books, I had a tendency to identify with the motivation of the main character, which drew me to Noli and El Fili's Crisostomo Ibarra and ultimately made him my favorite character because of his upbringing and eventual fall as the events of the story unfolded. He reminds me a lot of one of my favorite characters, Eren Jeager. Like Ibarra, Jeager was brave and hopeful for change before he eventually turned cunning and heartless, proving that even good men can turn evil when given the right or, more accurately, the wrong set of circumstances.
3). The idea of love recurs throughout the book and takes many different forms, including love for one's family, and one's country, and romantic love. In order to show the extent of his commitment to the welfare of others and the group's struggle against injustice, Rizal depicts the selfless deeds of love and sacrifice made by his characters.
In his critique of the Spanish colonial religion, Rizal focuses on the Catholic Church in particular. He highlights the conflict between religious ideals and the deeds of individuals in positions of authority within the Church by exposing the wrongdoing, hypocrisy, and moral shortcomings of specific religious figures.
The novel highlights the harsh reality of Spanish colonial control in the Philippines, exposing the oppressive practices, unequal power dynamics, and cultural enslavement experienced by the native population under Spanish dominion. Colonial tyranny is a recurring topic throughout the book.
By highlighting the striking difference between the affluent Spanish ruling class and the disadvantaged Filipino masses, Rizal's writing highlights the pervasive social injustices that existed throughout the colonial era. The book's theme of exploring systematic exploitation, poverty, forced labor, and landlessness in relation to social injustice is critiqued.
The pervasive corruption and misuse of authority within the Spanish colonial administration are depicted in "Noli Me Tangere" in dramatic detail. It reveals the moral decline, tampering with the court system, and corrupting power of the friars, who had considerable influence over societal, economic, and political matters. eventually making corruption a significant subject.
Nationalism is unquestionably a prominent theme in the book. It encourages patriotism and a sense of pride in one's country. It ponders the idea of national identity, examines the import of history and tradition, and exhorts Filipinos to band together in their fight for justice, human rights, and liberation from colonial tyranny.
    BONUS:
Crisostomo Ibarra and Simoun (formerly known as Crisostomo Ibarra) are two interconnected characters who are actually just the same person, who experienced changes as the story progresses in Jose Rizal's novels "Noli Me Tangere" and "El Filibusterismo." Despite certain similarities, the characters' functions, drives, and behaviors vary throughout the two stories.
Simoun and Crisostomo Ibarra both come from wealthy families. They hail from affluent backgrounds and have been exposed to European ideas and schooling. Justice and reform are the motivating forces behind both characters. They are extremely troubled by the abuses they see occurring during Spanish colonial authority and work to make things right.
Both characters have a close relationship with Maria Clara, the protagonist of both works. In "Noli Me Tangere," Crisostomo Ibarra and Maria Clara are engaged, but Simoun's purpose in "El Filibusterismo" is partially fueled by his desire to exact revenge on her.
In "Noli Me Tangere," Crisostomo Ibarra largely employs nonviolent strategies for change, relying on dialogue, education, and exposing injustices through his book. In "El Filibusterismo," on the other hand, Simoun uses more extreme and subversive strategies, conspiracies, and violent plans, as well as character manipulation, to further his goals.
The character played by Crisostomo Ibarra in "Noli Me Tangere" epitomizes optimism and idealism, holding out hope for the potential of good change brought about by enlightenment and reform. Simoun, on the other hand, has evolved into a jaded and resentful figure in "El Filibusterismo." He has lost trust in peaceful methods and thinks that only revolution and devastation can bring about true justice.
In "Noli Me Tangere," Crisostomo Ibarra is portrayed as an enthusiastic and upbeat young man who goes back to the Philippines to bring about positive change. Through peaceful means, he seeks to reveal the inequities and transform society. Simoun, in "El Filibusterismo," on the other hand, has evolved into a bitter and vindictive figure. He adopts a more radical stance, aiming to incite revolution and topple the current order through coercion and bloodshed.
In "El Filibusterismo," Crisostomo Ibarra assumes the guise of Simoun, a wealthy jeweler with a secret goal, after keeping his original name and identity throughout "Noli Me Tangere." Simoun's new persona enables him to work clandestinely and achieve his revolutionary objectives without raising any eyebrows.

    1. Jose Rizal's Noli Me Tangere was a work that was meant to challenge and expose the dishonest and crimes of the Spanish colonial administration in the Philippines, according to British historian and novelist Austin Coates. Attacks the catholic church support for the colonial regime. He makes the churchs lack of morality, corruption, and dishonesty public.
Rizal draws attention to the social probls by using evocative individuals and their experiences. Lastly Rizal chose to write the book in Spanish, was a key element in the novels influence. By making this choice, the book was able to reach a wider audience, which included educated Filipinos who were multilingual in Spanish and Filipino.
    2. Elias Crisostomo Ibarra gains the support of a mysterious and enigmaticnamed Elias. Elias is known for his resourcefulness, wit, and talentElas takes a number of steps to further the cause of justice. He helps Ibarra in the plans and offers vital details regarding the dishonest behavior of the guardia civil and friars. Elias additionally helps in revealing the truth regarding the atrocities committed by significant characters in the narrative. Elias is depicted as a heroic figure, willing to sacrifice his own safety and well-being for the greater good.
    3. 1 Religion the Catholic Church's place in Filipino society, Rizal. He casts believe on religious authorities' sincerity and attacks the church's role in upholding social injustice and stifling intellectual and social advancement. 2 Social Injusgive details the wrongdoings and mistreatment of the Filipino people by the Spanish administration, the clergy, and the wealthy. The repressive system that supports poverty, inequality, and corruption is portrayed by Rizal. 3 Love another theme is love, especially romantic love. Rizal examines the idealistic pursuit of love and the sacrifices made by individuals like Crisostomo Ibarra and Maria Clara. 4 Nationalism calls for the awakening of national awareness among Filipinos and encourages a sense of national identity. The importance of solidarity, overcoming oppression, and pursuing social and political reforms are all emphasized.
    BONUS:
Crisostomo Ibarra favors nonviolent methods of change more than other people. In Noli Me Tangere, he seeks to create a school and advance education in order to better the lot of the Filipino people. Simon, on the other hand, adopts a more radical stance. He develops into a strong and cunning character in El Filibusterismo, organizing a bloody uprising against the tyrannical Spanish government. Crisostomo Ibarra is an idealistic optimist. He thinks that peaceful, educational techniques can bring about beneficial change. Simon has changed into a cynical and resentful person in. He no longer believes in nonviolent thinks that only revolution and force can bring about change.

    1) Rizal was able to accomplish this. Base on the novel, Rizal manage to expose the Spaniard's corruption, brutallity, ignorance and exploitation of the natives by the Spaniards. Since Noli Me Tangere aim to enlighten the Filipinos on what is happening in the country. They want the people to fight for their country and have the total freedom.
    2) Since I was not able to read the whole novel, I don't have any favorite characters. But if there is a character that I was interested, it's Crisostomo Ibarra. Because at some point he resembles a man who wants to fight without using violent force.
    3) Base on the video lecture, there are three themes of the novel. First, Freedom from Spain, Rizal aimed to enlightened the Filipino people to fight the freedom we deserve, since most of the Filipino people wants to achieve freedom against the Spaniards. Second, Social Climbers, it resembles different types of people during their timeline, in the novel, it specifically shows that Doña Victoria and Captain Tiago are one of the people who only wants to be associated in higher class of the society. Last, Abusive Power, in this theme, Rizal shows how the Filipino people have a hard time that the Spaniards gave to them.
    Bonus Question:
Crisostomo Ibarra and Simon Ibarra have the same goal, which was to make the country free against the Spaniards, but in different ways. Crisostomo Ibarra is idealistic person that who fights in a peaceful way. While Simon Ibarra is opposite of Crisostomo Ibarra, he believes that violence is the only way to bring about end to the abuse of the Spaniards

    1. Noli Me Tangere revealed the Spanish government's social inequities, in which Spanish officials and friars conduct injustices and abuses against the Filipino people. This work also depicts tyranny, religious hypocrisy, forced labor, and indigenous people exploitation. The narrative of the novel has the potential to awaken the sleeping Filipino consciousness and their history. The story stresses Malayans' strong character and the necessity to oppose the friars' control. The work directly questioned the Spanish government's power. The novel questioned the authority of the church and administration policies, which aided in revealing weaknesses within the system and enlightening the readers to question their existing lives and seek for change. The novel had a significant impact on the Propaganda Movement, a group of intelligent Filipinos who met to demand change and political changes in the government. This sparked the revolution that led to our country's freedom.
    2. My favorite characters in the novel are Crisostomo Ibarra and Filisofo Tacio. Crisostomo Ibarra is a passionate character in the novel who have a conviction to bring change in the society. His commitment to his principles and determination to fight against the injustices of the Spanish Government what makes me most drawn to him. The life he lived is clearly the life of Filipino people who lived during that period. He showed transformation and become the hope and inspiration for me. What I like the most is his perseverance for the future of his homeland. Filisofo Tacio is a character who seeks reforms in the government. I like how his ideals are written in hieroglyphs for the future generation of decipher it and realize how the Spanish Government and friars abuse and oppress the Filipino people.
    3. The novel, Freedom From Spain, plays an important part in arousing Filipinos from oppression and torture. The story showed the brutal reality of colonial rule, enhancing readers' awareness of the Filipino people's injustices and atrocities. exposes corruption, abuse of authority, and societal disparities in the harsh Spanish colonial system. The story is a caustic indictment of the Spanish friars, government officials, and other perpetrators of injustice. The story depicts the system's shortcomings and how individuals are driven to fight for their rights and independence. The novels, socioeconomic Climbers, depict the many socioeconomic classes. Individuals who raise their social position by copying or associating with Spanish colonists and the privileged elite. Padre Damaso, a Spanish monk who exploits his position of authority and riches to climb the social ladder, is one noteworthy figure that represents this tendency. The novel, Abusive authority, depicts Spanish friars who wield enormous authority and influence in the Philippines. Civil authorities, such as government officials and those involved with the colonial administration, abusing their power. The work also explores the exploitative aspect of the feudal system that existed throughout the Spanish colonial period.
Bonus: The similarities is that Simoun and Crisostomo Ibarra are both descendants of the affluent Ibarra family. They come from rich families and have acquired international education, giving them a broader view on Philippine society. They both want justice and reform. Crisostomo Ibarra and Simoun pursue their aims in different ways, but both include opposition to the Spanish authority. Crisostomo first argues for peaceful improvements and attempts to work inside the system, whilst Simoun resorts to more extreme tactics, ultimately seeking vengeance and revolution.' Both characters are driven by a deep desire for justice and reform in Philippine culture. They aim to alleviate their fellow Filipinos' suffering and to confront the social evils and corruption rampant in the Spanish colonial system. The differences between them is that Crisostomo Ibarra is as an idealistic and optimistic character. He believes in the power of education and enlightenment to effect change. In contrast, Simoun in "El Filibusterismo" has become cynical and disillusioned. He has lost faith in peaceful reform and believes that the system is irredeemable, leading him to resort to more drastic measures. Crisostomo Ibarra largely operates within the bounds of legality and tries to effect change through peaceful means.

Jose Rizal's Noli Me Tangere is a landmark work of Philippine literature that exposed the abuse of power of the Spanish friars and celebrated the Filipino people and their culture. Austin Coates, a British writer and historian, wrote in his book Rizal: Philippine Patriot that Noli Me Tangere was a “bombshell that shook the foundations of Spanish rule in the Philippines" and Coates was right because the novel was a major turning point in the Philippine struggle for independence. It was banned by the Spanish colonial government but made its way to the Filipino people, inspiring them to resist Spanish rule and create a sense of national identity. The revolution was led by a group of Filipino nationalists, including Jose Rizal. Rizal was executed by the Spanish colonial government in 1896. But his death did not stop the revolution; It continued until 1898, when the Philippines gained its independence from Spain. The novel is a powerful indictment of Spanish colonial rule and it helped to inspire the Philippine Revolution and is considered a must-read for anyone interested in Philippine history and literature.
My favorite character in Noli Me Tangere would be Maria Clara. Maria Clara is often seen as the ideal Filipina woman, and she is a symbol of hope and resistance for the Filipino people. She is a very religious, devout Catholic; and also well-educated, kind, compassionate, and she is always willing to help others. She is not afraid to stand up for what she believes in. Her character is almost perfect in every way because she was known to be based on Jose Rizal’s true love. The way he described her in his novels is incomparable because he loved the person Maria Clara was based on very much. As I grew up and slowly turned into a woman, she has been one of the inspirations of mine as she was always looked up as an ideal woman for everyone. She is not perfect, but she is a strong and inspiring woman. She is forced to live a life of lies and deception in order to protect herself and her loved ones and was forced to marry a man she does not love to save her father from financial ruin. But despite the challenges she faces, Maria Clara remains a strong and resilient woman. She never gives up hope for a better future for herself and her country. She is a symbol of hope for all Filipinos who are fighting for freedom and independence.
The novel's setting serves as a powerful reminder of the need for the Filipino people to win their freedom.
Social Climbers: Rizal uses the novel to satirize the Filipino people who are willing to do anything to improve their social standing, even if it means betraying their own people. Doña Victorina represents the hypocrisy of the Filipino people who are willing to abandon their own culture and heritage in order to improve their social standing. She is also a reminder of the dangers of colonialism, which can lead to the erosion of cultural identity. While Don Tiburcio represents the hypocrisy of the Spanish colonial government. He is a reminder that the Spanish government was not always interested in helping the Filipino people, but was instead interested in exploiting them.
Abusive Power: The character of Crisostomo Ibarra. Ibarra is a young Filipino man who has returned to the Philippines after studying in Europe. He is idealistic and believes that he can help to improve the lives of his people by working within the system. However, he soon realizes that the Spanish colonial government is corrupt and oppressive. Ibarra's efforts to reform the system are met with resistance and persecution, and he is eventually forced to flee the Philippines. The theme of abusive power is a powerful reminder of the dangers of colonialism. The novel is a call for all people to resist oppression and to fight for their freedom.
Bonus Question: Crisostomo Ibarra and Simoun are two of the main characters in Jose Rizal's novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. They are both well-educated and idealistic Filipinos who are fighting for the freedom of their country from Spanish rule. However, they have very different approaches to achieving their goals. Ibarra is a young man who is full of hope and optimism; He believes that change can be brought about through peaceful means, such as education and reform. He is also a romantic who is deeply in love with Maria Clara. Simoun, on the other hand, believes that the only way to achieve freedom for the Philippines is through violent revolution. He is also a master of disguise and manipulation, and he is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve his goals. Both characters leave a lasting legacy. Ibarra's idealism inspires future generations of Filipinos to fight for their freedom, while Simoun's ruthlessness shows the lengths that some people are willing to go to in order to achieve their goals. Despite their differences, Ibarra and Simoun are both complex and well-developed characters who represent the different paths that Filipinos could take in their fight for freedom. Ibarra's idealism is a reminder that peaceful change is possible, while Simoun's ruthlessness shows that violence is sometimes necessary. Ultimately, it is up to each individual to decide which path they believe is best.

    1. It was said that Noli Me Tangere will shake the Spanish Control in the Philippines. Which is relatively true after it was published and read. But the main reason it will shake the Spanish control is because the books or novels exposes the cruelty and abuse of the Spaniard and with the rumors of revolt, we can already determine its effect that can fuel further the flames of revolution which later on we can see that it has some effects as the revolution kicks in and if we compare the No li back then to now its like a trend came to be showing the abused of the government and together with their own life experience in the hands of the government well a mass outcry started that can be stopped through lead and blood.
    2. I like Elias. Since became the Bonifacio of the novel and compare to the others I see him as more fulfilled than others I mean he got his dream to start a revolution though failed but still stared one but just like the real Bonifacio he was murdered just like our other heroes. But look at each character one way or the other they face their own circumstances one more terrible than the other would been great for at least Ibarra got married with maria Clara but well it just sad. Really sad in my opinion. So, in my opinion I really like Elias who stays loyal and true to his purpose.
    3. Well, I would say its, Honor, Passion, Enlightenment, Slavery, Religion but mostly sufferings Honor since the characters mostly the goods one stay true to their purpose and tried in some way diplomacy and once it failed started to fight for it, next is Passion each Character push to aspire to be something and some did achieve while some failed., next Enlightenment which we can see how the characters slowly open their eyes to reality as the story progresses which aid them in their character development and next is Slavery and Religion in which showed how cruel and corrupt the government and the priest back then seeing them abused their authority and using religion as a weapon and lastly its sufferings in each characters share of screen time they suffered injustice and pain which for some we can’t imagine how it feel until we are there but the novel is a compilation of stories that showed us the reality of that time which is sad really specially with Sasa poor women got his son murdered and went insane after searching and finding him dead
    Bonus Question:
Crisostomo and Simon are the same and different at the same time. Crisostomo pursued peace and tried to engage in a diplomatic and a lawful manner. And continued to do so till the end but as every things rots and decay so did his will as he saw reality that things can’t change in the way his trying which eventually lead him on the first book of his death and on the next book which Crisostomo turned to Simon which became a man of revenge due to the injustice he have faced but I still disagree to the way he tried to push a revolution. More abused till its full. It’s like how Obi wan once said Crisostomo should have brought balance to the force and not join them. It’s not a necessary evil its more on a desperate man for revenge. Basically, Crisostomo is the young and passionate man who want to change the system from the inside while Simon is a man that is so bitter and spiteful that decided to fight the system itself and became blinded with rage that even he decided to become cruel to boost the revolution by trying to inspire others to do cruelty to his fellow countryman.

    1. "Noli Me Tangere" by Jose Rizal accomplished to shake up the power of Spanish government in the Philippines by showing how cruel Spanish rule was. Rizal showed how the Spanish friars and civil officials were corrupt, lied, and abused their power. Through the novel, he questioned the Church's authority, and Rizal criticized the friars for abusing their power. He pointed out that they took land from the natives, mistreated them, and used religious beliefs for their own benefit. It also gave them a sense of national pride and identity by showing how rich their culture, history, and potential for progress were. Rizal's book praised the Filipino culture, language, and traditions, which went against what the Spanish colonizers said about how bad the Filipinos were. It made Filipinos proud of their history and motivated them to work for the good of their country.
    2. In the novel "Noli Me Tangere", Maria Clara, who is engaged to Crisostomo Ibarra, is without a doubt my favorite character. She is held up as the model of a perfect Filipina woman and is revered as an icon of purity and beauty. In the book, her life may appear to be perfect at first, but she has actually overcome a great number of obstacles throughout her life. Despite this, she is resilient and continues to have hope for a better future for both herself and her country.
    3. The first theme is Freedom from Spain, it shows how Jose Rizal kept trying to get away from the Spanish Government. Its goal is to save the country and its people by showing how cruel, greedy, and ignorant the Spanish colonizers were. Second is the Social Climbers, it shows the different social classes in the Philippines in the late 1800s. For example, Dona Victorina and Capitan Tiago's personalities show how they interact with the upper class, especially the Spaniards, the illustrados, and the mestizos. Thid is the Abuse of Power, Jose Rizal shows that the Spaniards ruled the Philippines and that civil guards, friars, and other government officials mistreated the Filipinos.
Bonus: Crisostomo Ibarra and Simon Ibarra are both driven by a need for justice and a desire to make the world a better place. They see how bad things were for the Filipinos when they were ruled by Spain. Crisostomo Ibarra tries to bring about change in a more optimistic and idealistic way. He thinks that education, knowledge, and peaceful methods can bring about change. Simoun, on the other hand, is more cynical and has lost hope. He doesn't trust peaceful methods anymore, so he chooses a more subversive and violent one. He uses manipulation and plotting to stir up rebellion and overthrow the Spanish colonial government.

    1. Jose Rizal exposed the social ills, it showed the social, political, and religious injustices that existed in the Philippines during the Spanish colonial era. Rizal painstakingly captured the harsh behavior of the Spanish friars, governmental corruption, and the miseries of the Filipino people. He criticized the Catholic Church in the Philippines for its abuses and disproportionate power, emphasized the friars' duplicity and exploitation, portraying them as corrupt, immoral, and repressive characters. He fostered the sense of national identity and unity among Filipinos as he had shared the sufferings of the Filipinos under the Spanish government. He planted the idea and challenge the oppressive systems through peaceful means. Lastly, he inspired and motivated the Filipinos to seek freedom and equality which lead to revolution against the Spanish government. There are many more but the ones I mentioned were the parts that played a crucial role as Jose Rizal's work sparked a desire for change in the public by bringing these issues to light and arousing awareness.
    2. To be honest, I don't have favorites and were not drawn as I really didn't read the whole Noli Me Tangere but based on the lessons, I like the character of Crisostomo Ibarra. Aside from being the protagonist of the novel, they way he is portrayed is something I can relate and may relate to most people until today. He was a man that does not resort to violence, and still believes in the good of the people and society but after the sufferings he experiences, he completely changed. He still wanted to change the society for the better but in a violent way that I can never blame him since his way from the start did not end well. Both of his ways did not succeed but it just shows how a person will really change and will not stay the same after experiencing a traumatic events even when most people still believe that you should still be okay after everything that happened.
    3. The first theme is Freedom from Spain. It mirrors the Jose Rizal's persistence in attaining freedom from the Spanish Government. It aims to redeem the country and the people by exposing the barbarity, greed, cruelty, and ignorance of the Spanish colonizers. The second theme is Social Climbers. It represents the various classes of the society during the late 1800s in the Philippines such as the personalities of Dona Victorina and Capitan Tiago on how they associate with the higher class of society especially with the Spaniards and the illustrados, and the mestizos. The last theme is Abusive Power. As having been colonized by the Spaniards, Jose Rizal depicts the Filipinos suffering abuse from civil guards, friars, and other government officials.
Bonus: The similarities of Crisostomo Ibarra and Simon Ibarra is their desire for change and justice in the society. Although their ways of changing the society are different, both of them wanted to change the injustices and corruption of the Spanish Government and seek to bring positive changes. As for their differences, first is his persona, where Crisostomo Ibarra is the diplomatic side, idealistic youth, the illustrator, and education is the key while Simon Ibarra is a believer of a violent armed struggle/violence, radical-minded, and seek for revenge. Second is their method, Crisostomo Ibarra is trying to change and bring justice without using violent acts while Simon Ibarra is using violent acts such as manipulation. Last is their view on the society, Crisostomo Ibarra has a positive view of the society and people while Simon Ibarra has a negative view.

    1. As stated in the video presentation, Rizal's book persistently unmasks contemporary Spaniards in the Philippines of every kind. By focusing on an administration crawling with self-seekers out to make their fortune at the expense of the Filipinos, his novel unveiled the corruption and brutality of the civil guards that drive good men to crime and banditry. As a result, the officials who are honest and sincere are unable to overcome the catastrophic workings of the system, and their efforts to help the country frequently end in self-ruin. He condemned the Philippine Catholic Church for its excesses and disproportionate power, underlined the fraud and exploitation of the friars, and painted them as corrupt, immoral, and oppressive figures. By using his writings, Rizal promoted a sense of solidarity and national identity among Filipinos because he had experienced their suffering under the Spanish colonial administration. He instilled the notion and used nonviolent tactics to confront these repressive systems.
    2. The character who sparked the most interest will probably be the protagonist of the story, Crisostomo Ibarra. He is demonstrated to be an idealistic, passionate person who longs for social change for the better. My admiration for people with strong views and a desire to make a difference is reflected in his passion to fight against injustice and his dedication to the welfare of his community. Crisostomo Ibarra also had several difficulties and hurdles throughout the narrative. I value his strong and tenacious character which is also seen in his resiliency in the face of adversity and his steadfast courage to rebel against the repressive Spanish colonial regime.
    3. The first theme of Noli Me Tangere is Freedom from Spain. As stated, this mirrors its creator's persistence in attaining freedom from the Spaniards. By exposing the brutality, greed, cruelty, and ignorance of the Spanish colonizers, it seeks to redeem the nation and its people. The next theme is the Social Climbers which represent the various classes of society during the late 1800s in the Philippines. Rizal included personalities like Dona Victorina and Capitan Tiago who symbolizes how people tend to associate with higher class of society, specifically Spaniards, illustrados and the mestizos. Lastly is the Abusive Power, which shows Filipinos are being mistreated by civil guards, friars, and other authorities. Like in the novel, Ibarra is forced to leave the Philippines as his attempts to change the system are greeted with opposition and persecution. The topic of abusive authority serves as a strong reminder of the risks of colonialism.
BONUS: Crisostomo Ibarra and Simon Ibarra are both committed to bringing about change in Philippine society. Both of them sought to address the inequities and corruption of the Spanish Government and work to bring about constructive changes, despite the fact that their approaches to improving society were different. They are motivated by their own encounters with injustice and a desire for retribution. While for their differences, Crisostomo Ibarra s idealistic and optimistic. He is motivated by visions of a better future and by hope. Simoun, on the other hand, has grown frustrated and resentful as a result of the injustices he has seen. He is distinguished by a more pessimistic and spiteful mentality.

    1. "Noli Me Tangere" by Jose Rizal exposed the injustices and abuses under Spanish colonial rule, challenging the legitimacy of the Spanish government in the Philippines. The novel portrayed the social, political, and economic conditions, highlighting corruption and oppression. It awakened the consciousness of Filipinos, sparking a sense of national awakening and motivating them to question existing power structures. Through memorable characters like Crisostomo Ibarra, the novel allowed readers to empathize with the struggles of the Filipino people and inspired them to take action. "Noli Me Tangere" sparked discussions and debates, stimulating public discourse on the need for reform and resistance against Spanish rule. Its impact extended beyond literature, laying the foundation for the Philippine Revolution and the pursuit of independence. Rizal's masterpiece played a pivotal role in awakening national consciousness and initiating the movement for change and independence.
    2. Filosofo Tacio, also known as the "pilosopo tasyo," is my favorite character in "Noli Me Tangere" because of his intellectual and philosophical nature. He engages in deep reflections and discussions, resonating with readers who appreciate intellectual pursuits and philosophical musings. Tacio represents the voice of reason and enlightenment amidst the chaos and injustice of the society depicted in the novel. His questioning of prevailing beliefs and challenging of societal norms offer alternative perspectives that appeal to readers who value independent thinking and the pursuit of truth. Tacio's idealism and unwavering optimism despite challenging circumstances inspire readers who seek hope and positivity in their own lives. Individual preferences for characters vary, but Tacio's intellectual depth, rebellion against injustice, and hopeful outlook make him a favorite for those who appreciate his intellectualism, critical thinking, and optimistic spirit.
    3. In "Noli Me Tangere," Jose Rizal explores three significant themes: freedom from Spain, social climbers, and abusive power. The novel centers around the desire of the Filipino people to break free from the oppressive rule of Spanish colonialism. Rizal exposes the injustices suffered by Filipinos and calls for independence and self-governance. Through vivid characters and their experiences, he highlights the need for the assertion of national identity and the struggle for freedom.
The theme of social climbers delves into the pursuit of social status and upward mobility in Philippine society during the colonial era. Rizal criticizes individuals who prioritize personal advancement over ethical values and genuine relationships. Characters like Dona Victorina and Padre Damaso embody this theme, demonstrating their desperate attempts to climb the social ladder at the expense of others. Rizal condemns the moral decay and shallowness associated with social climbing, emphasizing the importance of authenticity and integrity.
The motif of abusive power exposes the corruption and misuse of authority by Spanish officials, particularly the friars who held significant influence in the Philippines. Rizal portrays characters like Padre Damaso and Padre Salvi, revealing their exploitation, manipulation, and personal gain at the expense of the Filipino people. The novel emphasizes the devastating effects of unchecked authority, shedding light on the suffering endured under oppressive rule. It serves as a call to challenge and resist oppressive systems, advocating for justice and accountability.
Overall, "Noli Me Tangere" addresses the yearning for freedom, critiques social climbers, and exposes abusive power structures. Through these themes, Rizal raises awareness, instigates social and political consciousness, and advocates for change and liberation in the Philippines.
Bonus: Crisostomo Ibarra and Simoun are the same person in "Noli Me Tangere" and "El Filibusterismo." While they share a desire for justice and reform, they differ in their approaches and actions. Crisostomo Ibarra seeks peaceful change within the system, while Simoun embraces a more militant approach. Crisostomo inspires others to take action, while Simoun manipulates and orchestrates events. Their motivations and experiences shape their characters, with Crisostomo driven by personal loss and Simoun seeking retribution. Despite their shared identity, their distinct portrayals highlight their contrasting paths toward achieving reform and reflect the evolution of their perspectives.
