You know he's going to break his fucking scale again for this match, but here is the biggest question, if this is the greatest match ever? How exactly does anyone top it? What is the point of having another match? Danielson and OceanSpray would have to kill each other to have a better match.

Give it a couple of weeks and there's a pretty high chance that he'll be back to the personal insults again. If you do *anything* Jim doesn't like, and if his dislike for whatever you did is strong enough, he will hate you for it. He's not one to forgive either.

Years of having to review the Plumber has made Jim appreciate Omega just a tad. Jim never actually hated Will and in many ways Will addresses many of the cons Jim associates with Omega.

Every now and then, AEW puts on a fantastic match or segment that makes you go; “damn maybe this will make them turn the corner.” And then the next show or segment is the fucking shits. Everyday i hope they get their act together cause two successful wrestling pronations is good for the business as a whole.
If this was the best match of all time in the US? How does anyone top it? What is the point of AEW going forward? Unless someone dies in the ring, they'll never have a better match. So why should people care?

And it's never about the in ring stuff. I have observed this. When Punk won the championship over Adam page, everyone was talking about mjf probably leaving the company. When mjf returned at all out, everyone was talking about punk vs bucks. During their biggest show ever, everyone was talking about punk vs jungle boy and now they got this momentum from dynasty but in the press conference tony was talking about punk, Osprey was making remarks at hhh and toni storm was talking about finishing the story. It would be one thing if the in ring aspects or storylines hamper their momentum but it's always something which has nothing to do with their product
I watched half the match and have yet to finish it. the 2nd most annoying thing about the match to me was how it could have been a 6 to 9 week build on Dynamite TV. Get casual fans to learn who Osprey is and maybe invest that he is a baby face by having Danial Bryan Heel on him. Instead of doing any of that Osprey is out there cutting the most cringe promo on HHH and they are having stare downs on collision. Even with everything Indyrific in AEW Tony still cant even put together a compelling program between 2 top guys.

Yep, because without story and meaning they all blend together. The most memorable moments in AEW (Dustin vs Cody, MJF vs Punk) all involve good character and storytelling.
@@SportPhilosophiesyeah the sad thing about AEW is that they try to act hipster with this stuff and act like having a good story is not important because Meltzer will give them 5 stars without a good story. AEW is capable of having amazing matches but without story it is completely heatless and in the end doesn't matter. Austin vs Bret had story and excellent in ring action and psychology that can be remember for a long time and HBK vs Undertaker Wrestlemania 25 had that too. AEW is just having great matches for the sake of great matches but without story it becomes forgettable. AEW had potential a total shame that they are just booking fir Meltzer.

I *knew* Dave and Bryan were going to say this was the best match ever on US soil, solely on the basis that Dave thinks Ospreay is the greatest wrestler in the history of wrestling, and he doesn't have a 7 star match, and Bryan Danielson was his best chance to have a 7 star match because he's already had multiple matches with Omega and Okada, and nobody else is at the level of Bryan that Dave would feel comfortable saying it's 7 stars, so he was gonna rate it 7 stars no matter what. Danielson could've spent the entire match in the fetal position, he'd have given it 7 stars.
@@SportPhilosophies yeah like I don't deny Bryan and Oespray had an awesome match but AEW is having that little brother syndrome where they can't stop talking about WWE. Hell the build up of Danielson vs Oespray had me thinking that Oespray was going to have a match with HHH. Hell what HHH said with McAfee felt more like talking to MJF instead of Oespray. Danielson has proven that his style works on WWE no denying about that and Oespray has the potential to be more than a British Ricochet but AEW, Tony and Meltzer are things that just put a lock on their wrestlers. Hell WWE saw insane potential on Cody, CM Punk and Jade Cargill but AEW and their fans loves to stop the momentum of their wrestlers.
What I like about Jim is that if something is good in the ring, then he'll give it praise and explain why. If it's awful, he'll lambast it... and explain why and, more importantly, how it could have been done better. If this match deserves Jim's and Brian's praise, wonderful; in My opinion, Danielson/Ospreay should be a great match - I'd be more surprised if they had an average match or worse.
That's why I don't get why the idiots think he wants AEW to fail.
He just wants to see the art he paid blood, sweat and tears for not be made a mockery.

I don't know, I went to the fair grounds last year and saw The Alaskan Joe Blow vs Masta Bate, and it was a banger! Had 15 false finishes, a crap load of dives, chops, kicks, 540 flips and 1080 backflips! I've never seen anything like it, and for my money it was better then Savage vs Steamboat, Ramon vs Michaels in that ladder match, and far better then Austin vs Hart (psh, that match didn't even have any flips)... I wish someone would of recorded it because it was about 9 stars!
That match sounds pretty good. Just last week near my hometown there was a match between two local guys, Jack Mehoff and Heywood Jablome. The match took place in a barn near BFE at an 8 year olds birthday party. The match went 97 minutes and was for the prestigious ICW World Television Kentuckiana Junior Middleweight Title. They were kicking out of everything: Death Valley Drivers, reverse ranas, Canadian destroyers through burning tables covered in barbed wire with mouse traps on top. They were dropping each other on their heads so much they'll probably have dementia by the time they're in their mid 30s. Mehoff hit his finisher that he calls Carpel Tunnel Syndrome about 15 times. It's basically a cartwheel springboard super reverse double rotation flying spaceman 630 underhook suplex driver bomb. Those hacks like Steamboat, Hart, and Michaels never did anything like that. Chairs, ladders, tables, 2x4s, light tubes, thumbtacks, and even LEGOs were used. The match finally reached its exciting conclusion with a basic roll up. I'm telling you right now if people had cell phone service and could have uploaded it to TH-cam that match would have gotten 10 stars easy. The wrestling business probably would have ended because no one could have ever hoped to top it so what's the point of anyone else even trying?

Too bad AEW drove a lot of people away over the last year that didn’t watch this match.
My major issue with this match was the lack of build. Cody vs. Roman II was better just on the basis that it had a better story.

I was more annoyed with Ospery doing a cool move then posing for the crowd it was constent. After that top rope Huracranna where The CTE Dragon fell right on his fucken head took me out of the rest of the match. Chris Benoit was 17 years ago and that's all I could think about watching Bryan is going to be the next Benoit and not in the good way.
Exactly, no matter what the smarks say wrestling matches are as much story stakes and character as they are in ring work. Without those elements it’s just moves in an empty vacuum.

People can get paralyzed off of very simple moves, Austin broke his neck off a piledriver and Big E broke his neck off an overhead suplex. Do you clutch your pearls everytime someone does a piledriver or an overhead suplex? No? Then stop clutching them when Ospeay does a Tiger Driver that he's executed twice without hurting anyone. There are no risky or safe moves, only risky and safe workers, and good and bad luck. Ospeay is a safe worker with luck on his side. Stop being sensitive sarcastic twats and enjoy good wrestling.

This was a good match but even calling it excellent or the greatest is overtly charitable and overlooking a lot of bogus selling and botching but most of all, the run time. All these "dream matches" are booked like the last one on that list and I find it tiresome. It's like a check list of stare downs, chain wrestling, etc. Only thing that puts this over some of the others is the restraint of not doing all the high spots.
It was a great match. Ostrich is winning Cornette over.
Fun little match, crowd ate it up. Not as good as Omege v Danielson but still a fun spectacle to watch. Far from best match of either's career or AEW's best match which the looney toones are parroting.

This was a fantastic match, I think basically everyone can agree on that much. I have 3 thoughts:
First, this makes all the goofy blood & foreign objects matches AEW features waaaay too often look even worse than usual (and I say that as a fan of hardcore wrestling). Second, all the “best match in US history” stuff is crazy- this was really great, but let’s not lose our heads here people. Last, the audience chants are completely out of hand. There’s nothing wrong with chants, but within reason. This audience was *constantly* chanting something, and when you do that, it denatures the beauty of a live crowd that’s totally sold on a match. Not only does it take away from the show, but it’s just plain annoying- when done to such an obscene extent, all these chants are is the audience making it about themselves. It’s so stupid.
It didn’t ruin the match, but it absolutely made it less than it would’ve been otherwise.

A match that will blend into all the other workrate classics while matches with story, characters, stakes and meaning will continue to mean far FAR more.

If all of this isn’t obvious going into the match, there is no heat because there is no conflict. It’s two guys (albeit really talented ones in this case) putting on an exhibition.

It was just two wrestlers going "We're going to put on a great match" during the build. There was no heinous action by one person, nor was there a long term story to it. It was just a heatless banger to cause the neckbeards to jerk off to.

Let's get it straight, it was one of the best match this year and it delivered in-ring wise.
Could it have been better? Yes.
Osprey and Bryan's match was prematurely booked, everyone knew it will be good match, but everyone also knew Osprey will win it, if AEW booked Bryan to actually win important matches and gave a real build and storyline instead of "Dream Match" it could have delivered and would be have memorable.
Danielson vs Osprey was better in-ring wise compared to Cody vs Roman's matches. But Cody vs Roman will be remembered forever, because their was a story and a built which was the only ingredient missing in this good match.

if this isn't proof that corny isn't as bias as everybody thinks it he is I don't know what it is, because by God I think Corny and Brain liked this match more than I did. I think it was the nonsense finish that really brought this match down a lot for me. not to mention the spot where Brian no sold Ospreys finish and immediately transitioned into a counter of the Ozzcuter.
Honestly though I can't believe Jim didn't say anything about that nonsense finish. You have a referee call for the doctor and then count the three after Brian's been hit in the head again. it just didn't make sense to me. Furthermore why have a to finish like that if you have 2 matches to go? If you if you want to make the audience believe something wrong then it's the last thing your audience is going to see No? All this did imo was present how clueless AEW refs are. Not to mention Osprey didn't seem to have clue what was going on either which made him look like a complete moron.
That said, I did like the match hahaha.
If AEW was competent this would have been an actual dream, the match was amazing, but again the lack of build up and fued makes it forgettable as always, no matter how much they try play it off as wrestling first story as an after thought it just doesn't have legs, its like the brain rot instant gratification shorts or tiktoks of wrestling, fun for the 30 seconds you watch it and forgotten 30 seconds after, there's a reason you remember stories.
What was amazing about it? Another pointless aew 40 minutes gymnastics routine with two small generic white guys doing flips
in five years when Ospreay breaks out the tiger driver as an evil heel to put away a top babyface maybe the lightbulb will finally go off for you. there's so much damn story on the leadup, within, and after the match that this complaint of yours reads like: "i dont watch AEW" or "my head is empty"

the problem with Ospreay is he needs to get over with promos now. You can only have so many good matches. It’s established that hes a taller Paul London, give me a good story… The “i wont be the best until i fight this person” routine gets old.

I was there and they were definitely chanting "Os--Prey, Os-Prey, Os-Prey." They had the crowd in the palm of their hand from the very beginning to the very end. It was a blast to watch in person.

It was a very entertaining match but the glazing is totally undeserved imo. Dave calls it the "greatest match ever on US soil" and now everyone is parroting it. Really? Even if all you care about is "workrate," it still wasn't the greatest match ever. It was very good. I enjoyed watching it. At no point did I feel like I was watching something historic or legendary. Watching Cody vs Roman at Mania 40 gave me feelings I've never felt before as a fan. But people will say that wasn't as good of a "match," and that's my main issue. You can't seperate it. Pro-wrestling is the total package. It's the moves, it's the story, it's the psychology, it's the builds, the payoffs, the characters, the moments. It's all of it. From that perspective, Cody vs Roman is arguably the greatest match I've ever witnessed and I've seen a lot of smug AEW fans dismiss it as "sports entertainment nonsense." Well, that nonsense will be remembered for decades while this "greatest match ever" will be remembered only until AEW puts on the next "greatest match ever" on some random episode of Dynamite.
All AEW cares about is matches. No storytelling. That's why Wil's biggest promo going into this was against HHH.

It was good. Way better than almost everything else AEW has done. It's not going to move the needle at all, and kind of overshadowed Swerve going over later in the show, but good for Billy Oceanspray and Danielson.

If this match had any sort of worthwhile build or stakes it could have been in GOAT contention. Instead, its "just" a memorable in-ring classic.
And imo, I don't even know that its the best match that either Danielson or Ospreay have had this year. I'd take Danielson vs. Zack Sabre Jr. over this, and I'd take the United Empire vs. Bullet Club cage match for Ospreay over this match (not a Singles Match, but alas, he's the most important character in that match).
