Nah.. committee got it right. Bama was a 3 loss team with two coming to bad unranked teams and so they lost their spot. Also Remember when Bama got blown out by 3 or 4 TDs in the natty like 8 years ago against clemson? I guess one could argue that the committee should not have put bama in the next year bc they got blown out. Sometimes blowouts happen even if the two best teams play.
I almost wish that Bama or Ole Miss got in so that when (not if) they got skull-dragged this hard in the opening round, I’d be able to tell casuals like you that I called it.
That's a special level of "incompetence" by that Penn QB with the shown second Play.... not throwing to his open guy right in front of him for an easy First down, instead losing progress.
He’s 20. Still young. Lots of potential but needs good development and to rewatch his tape and learn. He’s obviously not going to be as good as a decision maker as someone like Dillon Gabriel who is NFL aged.
I coach high school soccer. Not football and not college. I did play college soccer though. There seems to be a shitload of teams that can be eligible for the college football playoffs in the FBS? Many, if not the majority of these teams are considered weak or irrelevant, yet are in the FBS. It seems to always be the same exact teams that are dominant. People are arguing SOS or the amount of wins but the actual issue seems to be that certain schools are just better funded and are in a different league to others? This is a problem you see in highschool sports and was relevant in college soccer also where it is the same school(s) year after year because it's a very well funded, dominant program and that there is essentially a massive gap in talent between schools even though they are in the same conference or division.
They dont do it in the NFL either. There will be a team from the NFC South in the NFL playoffs....and all the NFC South teams are pretty terrible. Falcons might be good if they had a quarterback.
The goal is not the top 12. There are 5 automatic bids. Those teams don't have to be in the top 12. If we used the BCS formula to pick the top 12, the only team that would lose a spot would have been Clemson (an automatic bid). Maybe the gap between the top 8 teams and teams 9-12 is just that big. It is likely that a 12 team playoffs is just too big to give us 11 good games.

People don't realize the disparity between the top teams and even the teams around 10-12. 12 team playoff is a joke. Eventually a low seed is gonna get hot and go on a run and they'll use that outlier as a justification for this stupid format.
You can't complain about SMU being in the playoff. They won the games people expected them to win and they didn't lose badly against the teams that beat them. They were 11-2 and 'Bama was 8-3, (because nobody considers the 'bye week' game against Mercer a win). The top 4-5 ranked teams in the CFP are more consensus choices. Once you start looking at 6 and below then ranking things becomes kind of squishy. I'm a Longhorns fan and I would have put 'Bama in except their losses were SO bad.
Cupcakes playing weak schedules shouldn't be allowed in. SMU and Indiana got thrashed and wasn't even close. The playoff committee needs to stop listening to stupid people on social media and make the right choice.

Drew Allar is arguably the most valuable player to his team in the entire country, and that Penn State pass rush reloaded. It lets you know just how good Michigan was last season. SMU did not belong. The ACC is awful.
They'd have done the same thing to Alabama or Ole Miss if we're being real here. But there's certainly truth to the statement that we need to give Penn State their flowers.

I say the committee should have the option to add two more games before the playoffs start you can Call them play in games if you get stuck with teams similar to this year’s SMU or Indiana teams just saying
All this talk about who "belongs" in the playoff. Why don't we have this with any other sport? What is the point of the regular season and the rankings if all that matters is who recruits the best and who has the "hardest" schedule and who will give us the "best game". SMU earned their spot, period. Yes, they lost. But if Stone was in I guarantee this would have been a better game. And this is coming from a Penn State fan. If Bama deserved to be here they wouldn't have lost to two unranked teams.
This happens in the NFL too. There will be a team from the NFC South in the playoffs even though all the NFC South teams suck. The Falcons could be good if they get rid of Kirk Cousins.

The committee is/was filled with NORMIES…smooth brains that have never even played the sport! Why not have 13 people that either COACHED or PLAYED the game?! How hard is that??? 😅
they had to do this so in the future they have a reason to not do this.
Nah.. committee got it right.
Matter of fact to add in, my Pirates obliterated the Yankees this year… so its very likely an underdog can win. As seen by Bamas 3 losses.
Every low-ranked seed will be a first round exit. Bama wouldn't be and haters know that. If we got in, we would go all the way to Atlanta.

The Indiana game and now the SMU game are perfect example and prove again why who you play, strength of schedule matters.

Unusual game: a clean field, plain enough, & yet all that snow in the stands!!
There should really be a way to get the top 12 teams in the country into a playoff. That's all we ask. Is that too much for us to ask?
Yes. The Comittee is corrupt or incompetent or both. Always have been. Use a formula and let AI adjust it for SOS and wins.
@@kenwright5410that’s a completely different situation buddy, nfl doesn’t choose who goes into the playoffs unless it’s tiebreakers, it’s a rule and just how it goes that all division leaders make the playoffs

1st round playoff blowouts happen. That's kind of the point of a seeded playoff (heck, even title game blowouts still happen). SMU earned a spot and Penn State was the better team. You always got to have chance for the underdog to have a shot! Just because the results aren't what a couch viewer wants to see doesn't mean the choices were wrong. Good news is that there's 3 more rounds of football.
