Through the Sarawak Alternative Rural Electrification Scheme or SARES funded by the Sarawak Government via the Ministry of Utilities and implemented by Sarawak Energy, the electricity coverage for Sarawak’s remote rural heartlands has been accelerated.
SARES, introduced in 2016, provides remote villages which are too distant to be grid-connected with 24-hour renewable electricity via standalone solar and micro hydro technologies.
