Excellent. Could not have done this job without guidance like yours. (2008 Ford Taurus X with 123K miles, and was running great on the original spark plugs.)
Outstanding videos. We just bought a '12 Taurus with 60,000 miles, runs like a top but will be changing the plugs myself. I also have a '13 Edge so the vids are very handy. I put 287,000 miles on a '02 F-150 with the 5.4 (sold it recently) and changed the plugs on it many times. That thing was a royal PITA when it came time to change spark plugs. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Thanks for the videos. I kept putting off having plugs changed, shop quoted $375. After watching how to deal with the manifold removal I decided it was very doable. It took about two hours but I took my time and a few breaks. It was 90 in the shade. All six removed had a uniform tan color and the gap was off the scale of my gapping tool. Poor old coils must have been working hard!
My Ford dealership wants $900 to do a “tuneup” on my 2015 Ford transit and I asked what that included and they said changing the spark plugs. LOL after seeing this video might try it myself.
I cant speak for what vehicle he using in the video but for the 2014 SHO (3.5 EcoBoost) at least you can work without any major moving of parts. The spark plugs should be accessible for the rear bank....(Firewall side) Auto Zone sells a dedicated spark plug socket with the 6" extension already built in to the socket. There is a ball joint to allow a small amount of offset from the plug. The added benefit of this is with the extension and socket all in one their is pretty much a 99% chance that the socket won't fall off the extension or the plug. Beak Torque and let the socket and ratchet (3/8) do the work. The only non spark plug related item I had to move was the strut tower cross brace. That could be considered a structural item so make sure the brace is installed and tight prior to driving. I believe there was a couple of vent tubing to either loosen and set aside but again nothing major.
What would the mileage numbers be before the spark plug wires and coil packs be replaced my 2008ford edge has 126000 miles and new plugs we're replaced at nearly eighty thousand miles. Should the wires and coils be replaced at the next plug change.
Thank you for the video!! would there be any issue with me changing the front three spark plugs and waiting a couple weeks till I can get to the back three? One other thing is, should I change the gaskets on the upper Plenum?.
Great Video, Thanks. I did replace my spark plugs myself, but while replacing my serpentine belt I noticed there isn't any water pump pulley, read on internet that the water pump is internal and driven by the timing chain, and something about a casting flaw could cause major damage due to fords poor design, my 2007 has 102,000 miles now, should I be concerned? what to look for? keep checking coolant bottle for oil contamination? sell or trade while running good? now I have something else to worry about. Thanks for replies.
Ddd Ddd The casting flaw I am not aware of but the seal around the shaft can fail just as any other water pump. These are timing chain driven pumps and are a major job 10hrs labor. If the shaft seal does leak it will follow a channel in the head and leak out above the alternator instead of leaking into the engine oil.
I had to replace the rubber boots on the end of the coils. They were shot at 95,000 and just fell apart down in the hole. Got them from for for a few bucks each. Ford was cheaper than Oreilly.
l have a ford edge and your video to replace spark plug and coil worked great but still shaking and service engine still there any other suggestion to get this problem fix? thank you!!
Another great video, i wish i had seen it before doing this job 4 years ago! I was wondering if i need to remove the rear bank valve cover to replace the vct seal? Mine is starting to leak oil and i want to fix it soon. If i want to remove the vct solenoid at the same time is it possible with the valve cover on? There is no leak on the valve cover gasket except where there is the vct seal on the rear bank cylinders. Thank you so much for this wealth of informations you are sharing with us, i truly appreciate it!
At 60-70mph and light acceleration I get sputter (misfire?) and the engine just reacts very rough to the accelerator. One day I was merging onto the highway and I had to step on it hard. My check engine light started blinking and I had almost total power loss. Had to limp along at about 40 mph for a few minutes before light went off and engine resumed normal operation. Think this is a plug issue? Sounds like from all ur vids I have been watching. Thank you!
Is there a reason you didn't use iridium plugs? And what's your recommendation on changing the coil packs and plug wires while doing this? I have a 2011 ecoboost with 98,ooo miles.
My 2008 Taurus is sputtering at highway speeds. This does not happen aften, but it is concerning. This is a replacement engine also. Could this be a spark plug issue, or ccould it be something more expensive?
Hey dude hopefully you get back to me ASAP. I was changing out my spark plugs on my 2012 Ford Fusion sport. It’s giving me a code p0205. Which isn’t an ignition issue in cyc5. Why would that come pop up? I didn’t touch the injector lines at all and I went back and double checked and everything and still had that code. Would would cause that code from doing spark plugs and not injector ? My car was running perfectly fine with no ignition code ever. Has 72 k miles and just wanted to do my plugs cuz I had time and had car almost 8 yrs new off the lot.
I've done this repair a few times and every time at least one of those little black release levers breaks and the connector will not click. Some comeback with a misfire and one of those back connectors is off.
These can be finicky that is why I make sure to push in on the connector THEN release the black release tab, definitely more work than the older coils.
one of the black tabs broke on one of the connectors. Is there a way to replace a connector? ..or does the whole harness have to come off? can a replacement connector be spliced on the wires of the harness?
My 2008 MKZ AWD has a misfire, or ignition cross firing. It has new plugs, coils, re man ECM. It seems to have a stumble or dead spot, or thud. Any clue as to what it could be? It has no error codes. That glob of dielectric grease will cause misfire. Do not put it where it can interrupt contact between the spark plugs and the coil spring. Dielectric means anti electric.

Any grease that is there will be displaced by the metal to metal contact. Dielectric grease is also helpful when replacing lightbulbs.
