    This snowblower belongs to the gent who helped cut down my trees. This big snowblower has a 14.5 Briggs Engine and it only runs when the choke is activated. I did not show the installation of the new chute but it was 4 bolts. I am so sorry. It is near the end of the video. This job sat in the shop for almost a month waiting for parts so I lost track of what was filmed.

    Great Vid Bruce. The only thing I do different is to make sure the drive disk isn't getting too much pressure. Even though the linkage may seem too loose when the drive lever is not depressed, I set the linkage so the tension spring extends about 1/2" after the rubber contacts the aluminum disc. Too much tension wears out your hand as well as the rubber drive disc prematurely! Keep the vids coming! Enjoy your vacation if i don't talk to you before you leave.

    Just a word of advice from a fellow old timer, use premium non ethanol fuel in all small engines. Ethanol in fuel draws moisture to itself. I’ve removed countless fuel bowls off carburetors to find a teaspoonful if water in the bottom. I tell my friends about the ethanol to find out that most of them never thought of that.

    Hey Bruce. Do the augers need to be "timed" on the snowblower? By this I mean do the auger ends need to line up to operate properly? Looks as if one auger is 180 degrees from the other. Just asking.

    • @KensSmallEngineRepair
      @KensSmallEngineRepair 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As long as they are pointing in the right direction, the answer is no. Beware when a customer calls and says the thrower isn't throwing good. I had a customer who bought a "refurbished" Troy-Bilt Storm thrower which actually work pretty good. Problem was the original owner put hardened bolts in when he busted the shear pins and they took out the bronze auger gearbox gear. Whoever put it back together had the auger rakes pointing out instead of in so the thrower would just fill up the ends of the basket instead of pushing the snow towards the fan in the center. Took a minute to figure it out.

    • @l337pwnage
      @l337pwnage 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ross They are welded up to be 90° off from each other so they are less likely to "pinch" things between them or pack snow between them. The only way to bolt them in is 180° off and no matter which way you do that, they will always end up 90° off from each other. As Ken said, the only mistake you can make is to install them on the wrong side.
      There is a youtube vid out there, tho, of a guy who worked on a 10+ year old Craftsman that had 2 right hand augers on it, lol. Apparently it was like that since new and no one noticed.

    Love the wheel off approach to changing the oil, will give it a try this coming spring when I service mine for storage!!
    Watching you tighten the cap for the oil drain tube, gave me another idea, take a strong half gallon jug cut out a portion of the top leaving the handle and spout/cap section for pouring into a transfer container, second cut a round hole to fit over the drain tube which would help hold it in place....

    I got a question. Does these machines need any maintenance/grease to the drive wheel system? My dad and brother both have the same husq models and when you move the machine while its off, the one machine makes a loud grindy noise somewhere in the drive system.. The other machine is much new, makes a similar noise but no where near as lous. Also, the one machine that makes the most noise, when it sat over spring/summer the wheels/drive system felt like it seized up a bit and its all related to this grindy noise Im hearing.. Do you guys have any ideas on a solution? Im about to take the bottom cover off and see whats going on..

    • @BrucesShop
      @BrucesShop  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      At 23:36 it shows the open transmission. I use a cold weather grease and lubricate the moving parts (use a very small amount of grease) After you are done, clean the flat drive surfaces and the aluminium plate and MAKE SURE there is no grease on the plate and the rubber drive wheel.

      One thing I like about this blower is the traction and torque in the wheel.. Ive had and used some real shit machines over the years but this one is a little workhorse imo. And its perfect for my dad, nice and light plus the torque in the wheels is sweet.

    Very nice machine! Looks well engineered and very powerful. 14 HP is overkill, but as Tim the Tool Man Taylor would say "More power Ha ha ha!". Well engineered, then they mess it up by the plastic bottom pan. I would love the have insight into the thought process on that one. Cost? Less damage to things it runs over, because of softer materials? Engineer had too many Coronas night before designing that part? Part of the fun of these machines is to look at and understand the brilliance of these tools. Each piece carefully designed to add value by increasing safety, durability, ease of use, etc. I wonder how the chute was damaged. Thanks Bruce. Good video. Is that battery powered drill an impact tool, or just a regular drill? How is the battery life? I can see it is orange. Black & Decker, or Ryobi or what brand? That long extension makes life easier.

    Husqvarna has no clue who their dealers and servicing dealers are. Put in my zip code, and a bunch of hardware stores that do NOT sell the brand pop up (never sold the brand), along with 2 service centers that closed three years ago. The website help? Good luck with that, the problem that I had has no 'links', so if you plan to use that website, make sure that when you break the snow blower, you break something that has a link to it (lol), because if you don't, forget getting a fix before winter is over. Bottom line, you will NOT be able to talk to anyone. Customer service is non-existent, best thing to do is avoid this brand period, whether it is a snowblower, motorcycle, or a hand held feather duster. Nothing but headaches trying to solve a problem or troubleshoot it.
