Kurt Cobain said in these words himself: ''I had a feeling if I named it Sliver most people would call it Silver'' His feeling was right!
He was so right😂
Lucky Cookie I also assumed it was Silver because they have a song named Lithium lol
@@purpletopturnip4113 You know, you're right
But he was wrong
The first time i heard this song, i thought it was called “silver” for deadass 2 weeks lmao
Seriously, is nobody gonna talk about how good Novoselics bass playing is?
Yes, he's a big boy with big hands slithering aloover the fret board. Really fluid and on point + he jumps and that's cool.
Yes
@@mr123leafman Big boy? Big hands? 😂

The last line is crazy. Especially from a kid: "I wanna be alone". That says a lot.. Probably about abandonment. Great song. We all miss Kurt.
1:53woe
i think ur looking to deep into it, cuz kids just say that when they’re throwing tantrums
@@FossyPickles yeah, but he was not kid when he wrote that song. I mean I have even worse memories from my childhood than just want to be alone and I remember I was like 7-9 when I had those thoughts.
@@MrCooper83 this song is genuine nonsense compared to like every other song, it’s just from the perspective of a bratty kid bro, he throws a tantrum and wants to go home, and then he’s yelling to be left alone, i have a lot of memories being like that, when i was a bratty little kid
Fun fact: This song was meant to be an introduction to nirvanas album, nevermind, and was the bands first attempt at creating a pop song.
About a girl was
@@finna1002 About a girl still had a raw sound, but yes it incorporated pop melodies/riffs. An older song, love buzz, did the same. Those songs weren't attempts to enter the pop industry though, rather they were meant to draw a small audience to them while still allowing the band to enjoy their punk rock style and heavy metal influences.
The band has always had pop hooks.
You could think of sliver as nirvanas double downing on the pop melodies and adding studio polishing to their sound with the intent of actually entering the pop industry.
@@Cherry-pu4mx Kurt created about a girl to break the mold and try to invade the pop music at the time. Much cleaner sound than any of the other songs, and way more catchy
@@finna1002 About a girl attempted to experiment more with pop sounds. There was no intention of hitting the pop charts. Kurt actually fealt nervous by the release of, "about a girl" because it deviated more from his punk rock style. The reason he was experimenting with pop is because he knew that it drew in audiences.
He never wanted the massive audience he ended up receiving, but wanted an audience nonetheless.
The track was raw, not overly produced like sliver or the tracks on nevermind.
The session to record all the songs on bleach took 30 hours in 2-3 takes.
Sliver was the track that pivoted the band into the pop charts because of the amount of polishing and further emphasis on pop melodies and rifts. This was kurts baby to decide whether or not the band should go full pop.
This is more clear when you realise tht sliver was released as a non-album single.
Dan Peters from Mudhoney recorded the drums despite Dave being in the video.
It's almost 2020 and Kurt is still at his grandma's house
And we should save him
Thats pretty funny
Haha

This isn't "the drummer from NIrvana" though. This is another drummer from Nirvana.
+bilsta666
yeah man i can see the resembelance
+bilsta666 Holy fuck man.
Others may find the lyrics shallow and simply written, but I think it's clever. For me, this is a POV of a kid with nonexistent parents and was always left with someone else to take care of them (in this case, the grandma). In that sense, the words doesn't have to be too articulate. It's simple, realistic, and behind the happy tunes, lies the a sad truth that's happening to most kids. My interpretation only. I might be wrong, but this is how I see it.
Kurt really hated when people over analyzed his songs like this lmao
the lyrics are very clever
he says he wakes up in his mother's arms, not to mention that the first line is "mom and dad went to a show", why would his parents be nonexistent?
It's obviously like you said
That's how I've always interpreted the song
I see lots of comments about how the lyrics are silly/simplistic, but it's actually quite impressive to create such an authentic voice/POV of a young child. Idk exactly why this song always hits me so hard...I guess it's because Kurt just actually transports me back to being a small child and the way it FELT. I always choke up and my eyes well with tears at the line "woke up in my mother's arms." Like I'm smiling, too. It's not sadness but just this huge rush of raw emotion.
I belive this song is about his parents divorce
I completely agree! I was hoping someone in the comments would share my sentiment
Its innocent in a way that, compared to how Kurt's life turned out, is so fucking emotional
Sliver was nirvanas first attempt to make a pop song and simplified chord progression, favoring melodies, pop power chords and simple lyrics to appease to more people. It was meant as an introduction to nevermind
My exact feelings. Straight waterworks sometimes

bro this has remained one of my fav songs since i was a kid, and not just for its silly tone, but because it resonated with me. my fam barely had enough money, living in the suburbs of seattle, so my parents were constantly working, and i ended up being pretty much raised by my grandparents. there’s a lot of crazy stuff that’s happened in my childhood - between my mom and i, being an illegal resident of canada, living in a car on the road, living in a friend’s house, etc, but the fact that i resonated with this song in this sense since a young age says something i think.
I know it brings me down but when I listened to nirvana I felt was awesome my mum died in a car crash I’ll never be the same again. But lucky nirvanas always there thank you nirvana
@@sagnikmustafi2374 thank you man, things have been good lately since we moved to the twin cities. i hope that in the future your parents won’t have to work as hard as they do so you can have more family time
.Kurt Cobain. .Last Days.. th-cam.com/video/y0xbDCRjMPM/w-d-xo.html
Another 1992 gem
@@sagnikmustafi2374 I've lived with my grandparents off and on my whole life...all together ive lived with them more than i have my mom. everytime my mom got us back she would go back to drugs and my brother and i ended up going through abuse from her boyfriend...now husband, unfortunately. i love my mom- but it was never "home" with her. i love how kurt put a joking happy tone over is music but if you really listen its so much more than that. i relate to this song a lot and im sorry other people do, but im glad we all have something to relate to.
We have all felt like this as kids!
love his primal scream and facial expression near the end of the video
Today April 5th was the day we lost a legendary grunge rocker.

Nirvana for ever.
🤘🏾
I mean.. if I have to name one thing about this song that truly displays a simple yet mastered songwriting sensibility on Kurt's part is starting his vocal in a lower register and then bringing it to a scream in the 3rd and subsequent verses... The impact is huge. It's a simple trick yet the execution is brilliant and makes the hair stand.. Utterly genius.
i just realized this after all this time and then i saw yer comment....so true
My mother didn't allow me to listen to this song when I was 13.
We had fights almost every day and I was really depressed at that time. I think she just couldn't take the truth.
The song reminded me so much of my childhood and she knew that.
I feel for you, dude.
@Bath House Becky wtf man
13 your a kid
@@nonyobussiness3440 thanks for letting us know kevin
@@nonyobussiness3440 thank you explaining this deep shit
this song is a perfect example of the Mandela Effect...
My Brain: Silver
Reality: *Sliver*
Me: *Wait, What...wtf*
😮 i guess
Its not an mandela effect
Josh Kurtzman yea that’s just u being an idiot
Yeah no, it's always been Sliver.
I thought the song was called SILVER 4 years and I understood that it is SLIVER last night🤣🤣
For me the energy for this song will never get old
I love the lyrics. It is just a boy who wants to be with his mother...i mean it is all a boy really wants. I remember when I was a little boy, my mom left me with my grandma and left off for a walk. I escaped and found her in the forrest not so far away...i don't know why, but it was really important to me, and still is for some reason, because why would my brain still hold on to that memory?❤❤❤
27 year without you, we miss you sweet angel
