- Dit is het eerste deel van het concerto in a klein van Antonio Vivaldi (op. 3 nr. 8) in een transcriptie van Johann Sebastian Bach op het orgel van de Lutherse Kerk in Maastricht. Het orgel is in 1695 gebouwd door Hendrich Metzker. De orgelbouwer Pereboom & Leijser hebben het orgel uitgebreid tot de huidige stand.
Over het stuk en de uitvoering:
De concerten van Vivaldi worden gekenmerkt door het stuwende ritme en het contrast tussen de tutti- en sologedeelten. Bach bleef wat dit betreft erg dicht bij het originele stuk. Wel heeft hij dingen qua bereik en harmonie aangepast, zodat dit stuk goed tot zijn recht komt op het orgel. Het opvallende motiefje wat steeds terugkomt in de rechterhand, speel ik steeds met een andere registratie. Door de afwisseling van motieven en de contrasten zorgt ervoor dat ik elke keer weer energie voel als ik dit stuk speel.

This piece is the first section of a transcription by Johann Sebastian Bach of the Concerto in A minor by Antonio Vivaldi (op. 3 no. 8), played on the organ of the Lutheran Church in Maastricht (NL). This organ was build in 1695 by Hendrich Metzker. The organbuilder Pereboom & Leijser expanded this organ to the current state.
About the piece and the performance:
The concertos by Vivaldi are characterised by an energetic drive and the contrast between tutti- and solo parts. Bach stayed close to the original piece, however changed some things with regards to reach and harmony, which made this piece stand out on the organ. The prominent motif is repeat over and over in the right hand, however it is every time played with another registration. The continuous variety of motifs and contrasts gives me an energy boost, while I’m playing this concerto.

If they weren't too big and the organ bench could be elevated sufficiently, they might be a viable option.
Kudos to anyone who can play the organ in non-organ shoes. I have long watched my father play difficult passages with regular dress shoes and wondered how he does it.

Handsolely played. This concerto is one of my favourite, especially the 3rd movement.
I'm always impressed how some organs like this one have very modest keyboards in terms of space real estate, but end up taking such great amplitude in sound!
werkelijk schitterend gespeeld, zo heel knap! die beweging met enorm levendige passie neergezet, zo mooi die wisselende steeds terugkerende motiefjes (in ander registers). vrolijk en diepzinnig. in het oorspronkelijke dubbelvioolconcert is dat er al snel, door het timbre van de violen. op orgel veel lastiger, het komt echter in deze uitvoering top naar boven waarom Bach nu juist o.a. dit concert van Vivaldi heeft verkozen voor het prachtige orgel. Op het eind is precies dat het lijkt in deze uitvoering alsof de grote onbereikbare Johann Sebastiaan Bach de luisteraar toefluistert: hoor eens met hoeveel kundigheid en klasse (!) hier gemusiceerd wordt... en daarbij: wat een prachtig orgel!
Klinkt precies zoals het moet klinken, knap gespeeld. Mooi levendig tempo. Heb ervan genoten. Wat een prachtig orgel intussen.

Ik heb tussen 2010 en 2012 meervoud aan deze orgel mogen spelen (begeleiding van de oud-katholieke kerkdiensten). Een geweldig instrument. Ik zit inmiddels in een rolstoel en kan niet meer spelen. Maar geweldig dit filmpje. Dankjewel.

I saw your shoes, and chuckled. It should remind us that there's not necessarily "correct" organ shoes to wear, but whatever you feel comfortable playing in. I've played for services in Crocs before, because I forgot to grab my other shoes.
