Thanks for this! It was super helpful. It's difficult to come across an immunology video that has just the right level of detail, they are either totally over-simplified or far too detailed, but this was perfect.
Wow, thanks very much, I don't even know how much to appreciate this, I'm doing a pharmacology course on penicillin and I'm barely finding any perfect way on how it causes anaphylaxis. This video helps alot💪💪🔥
Here's an interesting case study, my Mother became allergic to Penicillin when she became pregnant the first time (1958), My older sister became allergic after her first pregnancy, my brother was born allergic, I became allergic after my first pregnancy, my younger sister was born allergic to Penicillin. I can react by just being close to someone who is on it, and can pick it up from the counter at the pharmacy. When I react the hives don't go away, I have to have steroids or it goes into angioedema then into shock. I am also allergic to Benadryl (gives me hives which then go into angioedema and then shock). Now I am also allergic to some food colorings (give me migraines) and if I even mow the lawn I am throwing up in the am and suffer with headaches and clogged sinuses. As to my children and my siblings children the allergy has continued into the third generation. My twins were both born with peanut allergy (no hives, goes strait to angioedema). As of yet they are not allergic to Penicillin buy one may be. What do you think?
This was an interesting read! I am 20 years old and I’ve always known I was allergic to penicillin since a very young age, but I didn’t realise these symptoms were because of the allergy I had just passed it off as “nothing” as I’ve never really researched into it a whole lot. I too get terrible migraines, regularly blocked sinuses and have bad reaction to some foods depending on what’s in them, exactly as you explained!
Thank you! It would seem that generation of anti-penicillin Abs of either variety should be the rule, not the exception. Why don't we see more cases of penicillin allergy? ( < 10% of patients treated have the allergy). Secondly, can you comment on the ratio of people who develop Type I vs. Type II hypersensitivity. Why does it tend to be more Type I than Type II?
@@katielater7535 I was a kid but yes, that’s considered anaphylaxis and u can die from it And I was given medicine but idk what kind, I haven’t touched it again since so not sure but I’m sure it’s the same thing as an epi pen
What will happen if you're allergic to penicillin because I want to know because these people try to kill me with it and I've already talked to the place I been dizzy cuz of it
I'm allergic to penicillin and sulfas. With penicillin, it's straight to anaphylaxis. I usually get Flagyl/Metronidazole, and my doctor warns me not to drink because apparently Flagyl works like the anti-booze pill lol. I also get amoxicillin.

Glad you found my video helpful! I've got a whole undergrad course worth of videos posted.
Sweet! This is exactly what I was looking for! Well done. Thank you!
Happy I could help!

Great to hear!
So my immune system has that "you aren't from around here, are you boy?" mentality.
Yup.
Great value thanks
