And to make it more interesting, it takes the form of this nerdy song.
The year was eighteen eighty nine, before the accolades and awards
Nintendo got its start from making Hanafuda cards.
For a century, they grew and planned, to discover just what sells
Making vacuums and ultra hand, and love testers and love hotels.
The fact this comic ended the same day smash came out just for some reason makes this even sadder. It truly was a great comic. I'm glad he chose the release date of smash 4 to release the finale. There's something that feels right about having this leave us as smash 4 arrives. Thank goodness Brawl in the Family got a proper ending it rightfully deserved and didn't simply disappear. Thanks for the great years Matthew. :) I loved this comic.

Not only is that line beautiful in itself but the fact that he's singing it to the Brawl theme, while imitating when you win a champion's trophy in Brawl...what a great way to end a comic. It was such a great way to say goodbye to Brawl in the Family, as well as Brawl itself. Thanks for everything, Matt. We all miss your comic so much.

i read the comic when it began so many years ago all the way to when it ended, it gave me laughs when i was sad. it lifted me up a little when i was at my lowest.
Even today after all this years this song makes me sad. As saying goodbye always hurts a little.

Dude... Seriously, I'm the one who should thank you, and I think I speak for a lot of people here, for bringing such a nice little bundle of joy to our corner of the Internet.
I found the comic through TVTropes, and since reading I became charmed by your respectful take on all things Nintendo - even though I've been over to the "dark side" for a few years now as the owner of an Xbox 360, I've always had a place in my heart for Nintendo, as I grew up playing on a Super NES and an N64, and those games shaped my perception of what a game should be like: accessible and fun, even in the darkest moments.
Though, to be honest, I had stopped reading Brawl in the Family around 350 (If It Takes a Lifetime - BTW, another heart-string-tugging number of yours), because that's my problem with webcomics: once I read through the archives, I get a bit impatient for updates and leave the comic aside so I can have more to read at a later date. So I didn't know about your disease, or your marriage - I even only found out about the end of the comic through TVTropes. But I did a BitF marathon to compensate, and now here I am, going all Fishman on you. heehee (speaking of that, I'm finally giving The Wind Waker a try - it really is a funny, charming game). Anyway, I'm sorry I wasn't there to cheer you on, to put my money on your Kickstarter projects, or to offer my shoulder as your life took all these twists and turns, but I'm glad to see you're here now, living a good life, following your dreams.
And this closing number nearly got me tearing up (not for trying to deny it or anything, I'm just not that emotional, really), because... Well, it's always hard to say goodbye, especially to something that's always been so endearing, but someday the day's gotta come, right? Even reading the Meet Me in the Final Destination arc reminded me of the headshots I drew of all the Smash characters in this new game (even Ryu) a couple of days ago. That kinda struck a chord to me, even as I probably won't make a comic out of it (I confess to not being as creative as you are), in hindsight I felt like I was another of the "Master Hands" weaving their fates (and I'm a righty, too! heh). It was an incredible acknowledgement of the passion we hold for those characters and universes that helped build millions of childhoods and teenage years out there, including my own. That's why I'm the one who thanks you, Matt, for bringing us tons of laughs, tears, frights and nostalgia with Brawl in the Family.

I just read this whole comic in quarantine. Man, hearing this for the first time at the end made me cry, and I wasn’t even there the first time
You know what? I was expecting to be in tears by the end of this. But I'm not. I find myself smiling at all these fantastic memories of one of the greatest webcomics ever. Thank you Matthew Taranto for all of your fantastic work over the past six years.
I rewatch this video every year and I always feel like crying.
6 years and I still tear up over this. Like, I discovered this comic when I was just starting middle school and today I graduate - time flies, huh? But regardless of everything, I still came back today for this song, brings lots of memories, both good and bad, but all made me who I am today. This comic is a big part of all of those, and I'll be forever thankful to Matthew for it.

I didn't discover BitF until last year, but wow what a great comic strip. It was truly sad to find out it had an ending.
Six years later. Wow. This was the very first webcomic I ever read, and it still leaves a lasting impression on me today. I’ll be singing along to these songs for years to come... thanks, Matthew.

JFC, I loved BitF. I would go away for a few months, then come back to bunches of comics. I’d binge them while staying up too late when there was school the next morning. I had a lot of fun on the forums too in the comic mash-ups threads. Even still revisiting these comics and songs once or twice a year is incredibly pleasant.

Just reread the entire series over the course of, like, a week. I followed the comic from pretty early on and tuned in for every update, all through my high school years. Coming back was like meeting up with an old friend - the last arc starting at a class reunion seemed fitting. Thanks for all the humor, which still makes me laugh, and for all the heart, which makes BitF come to life even after all this time.
14 years. There was just something magical about this series, there still is. So joyous, festive and uplifting about this finale. *This* is playing at my funeral.
I just found out about this, today. I haven't even seen a SINGLE episode of this webcomic yet I feel so nostalgic about BitF. Now I wish I can go back to when it all started so I could partake in all of the memories this webcomic has caused. So as a completely stranger, I can say that I was crying on my bed, especially that last part, it really got to me. BitF, thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you have done so far, even though I wasn't there to experience it.

(Oh jeez as soon as I finished listening to this, it started raining outside.) I'm really going to miss BitF, it's been a huge inspiration since I found it back in 2010 during that Eario arc. It feels like the passing of an era with this ending now, this was a great way to see it off.
Ah, this still gets me feeling emotional. It was such a delight getting to see your growth in both joke/story writing, and artistry. And while it was sad when you finally brought it all to a close, I'm glad it was while everything was still warm with the love you put into it~

It’s been so long, yet this is still my favorite web-comic. I remember well you fighting through sickness, life events, conventions, and more just to get comics out on time. That’s one of the reasons I like it so much, I feel like I truly know the creator. Thanks for everything, I’ll be reading until Giygas destroys time itself.

Matthew, this song is truly one of the best works of art I've ever seen. I'm not going to lie 3 YEARS LATER (can you believe it?) it still brings me to tears of joy of a great series and of sadness of it's depressing yet beautiful conclusion. This music is the ABSOLUTE BEST piece ever and BitF couldn't have gone out in a bigger boom than it did.

It's been a whole year now. Wow... I can still remember when I came to the website at around comic 200 and checking everyday for if there was a new comic.
I frequently come back to this song. It was the perfect way to end BitF. Thank you for the countless laughs this comic has given me over the years. Thank you for reinforcing my love for Waluigi, who is now my favourite Nintendo character. Thank you for everything.
I tried so hard to hold the tears back but just gave in when Plumber's Best Friend started up in the part where everyone's songs are played together {the song hits me all the harder ever since my kitty died this year}, and then gave in even more when you finished with the Brawl theme and one last show of how much you love Kirby the most. ;~;

That is the single best idea I've heard all day.
So here we are. The most painful goodbye since Futurama. I've been with this series since around the 300 mark, and I've read every comic on the site. Every comic that went on the site was enjoyable, every song fantastic, absolutely flawless. From Cocoon Academy to Captive Princess to Meet Me on Final Destination, you have an amazing talent for making stories and coming up with original jokes, and display outstanding artistic prowess. We will always remember the History of Nintendo, and be Home for the holidays, and join in rhyme for the Carol of the Waa. I wish so desperately that it wasn't true you were leaving, but such a thing won't help much. Good bye, Brawl in the Family. You had an amazing run, I look forward to purchasing the books. Good luck with Tadpole Treble and other potential projects down the road. May you be prosperous in future endeavors.
