I'm not sure why I decided to watch this in 2020, but I really enjoyed the video. Partly because nostalgia, partly because of young Mike with the thicker accent, but also just because I think it says a lot to the little micro-optimizations that raiding is all about, finding all the little tricks to really pop off, learning over time, getting used to communicating with a group of other people who are also doing all those things, and in the end of the day, making decisions based on what's best for the group.

A lot of us who have played wow have auditioned for higher end guilds and that audition really is quite stressful.. your play is completely different than when you're confident and in your comfort zone.

Speaking from raiding top 2 U.S. for many years. We wanted survival over the dmg, unless it was a dps NEEDED specific fight, and we had the dps/dmg to pull it off no problem. Never did we look at people for OMG LOOK 1 MILLION DPS but he died 2 minutes in... nah, survival over that shit. Most high end raiding take the "I did shit cause requested bad specc, and horrible place to put him". You were new, you were discarded, and people wanted to see how you handled yourself. High end guilds aren't going to hold your hand.
When you're progressing the most important thing is to be able to react accordingly to combinations of mechanics, manage cooldowns, and execute a strategy well. DPS is secondary and people padding and/or prioritizing DPS over mechanics/execution (which is a serious problem for log whores) is unacceptable. It's not that damage doesn't matter. It's that we first want to see how well you think on your feet and how well you execuite mechanics as this tells us if you can learn/react and think on your feet. The damage will be there after you've gained familiarity with the fight.

Just joined the top guild on my server, Straight into AQ40 (first time ever).Made it to the twins and I caused a wipe by agroing some of the adds.... NOOOOOOoooooo, I was gutted lol. Can only imagine the pressure in a world class guild.
I so hate being assessed at anything. Nerves kick in and you aren't doing your usual thing and you are concentrating to much on not f'n up that you don't do all the good stuff you would usually do. Hey man, I'm a new viewer but don't let it get you down. Your warlocks gear is much lower than the average player in that raid and Demo isn't great for most of the fights as you've stated. Once you get used to the fights your dps will go up accordingly. I was 1/8 heroic and got into a 5/8 heroic guild and I did shitty dps the first two weeks until I knew the fights inside and out. Anyways, good video man.

Hey preach don't let the low damage get ya down, learning 8 new heroic bosses in one go and not Fing up the mechanics is not shabby mate. Now that you know the fights really focus on pumping that damage next go. I'd have to agree demo is not ideal for some of those fights, well most of those fights so just keep ballin an you'll be fine!
As far as the soaking thing, I think they wanted you to pop your demo form possibly for the 600% armor increase. I know this is irrelevant as it's no longer in the old cata days :P but I just figured I'd mention it, you could've saved you next Demon form for soaking it on the 5th.

I can't say I was particularly nervous, I was pretty confident in myself enough as a player. I eventually became their top Warlock in the guild, lol. I was flattered when the GM was having talks with people between expansions seeing who was going to keep playing and whatnot, and he just thanked me for making his life easier. /feltgoodman.jpg

rwf was two months ago, method is a common search term alongside typical wow stuff around then, put two and two together. the algorithm isn't *that* inscrutable
i did the same thing on morchok heroic. i did not die, but my dps was shit because they wanted me to go blood pres (i was a frost dk) to soak some of the stomps. i ended up pulling like 19k dps when i usually pulled 40k on that fight on norm, but it all ended well because i got my bracers. :P
Hey bro thier right warlocks do take the soak just not demo its destruction that is able to easily take the soak with nether ward protection also ideal in morchog also for two reasons bane of havoc and netherward for the soaks

First he's talking about first boss, here I'm thinking skorpyron, then he starts talking about the mechanics and he says "the boss splits up" and im here wondering what the hell he's talking about and think of everything else in the instance, but theres nothing that splits up except for anomalys adds. Then look at the date and it's from 2012. Might explain something.
