I would say it is trillions $$$ in last 55 years. Strategically Bangladesh would have won that war wheather 3 million/6 million or genocide. But India always wanted to intervene because they saw it was their big investment in 1971 rather not doing it in 1965 war between Pakistan and India. In the 1971 war of independence, three million Bangladeshis lost their lives, fought for 9 months, India sheltered about 10 million refugees and the liberation fighters of Bangladesh almost liberated them. In such a situation, 10-15 days before the Victory Day, the Indian army helped the local liberation army and wants to take the credit for the entire liberation war. India's main objective behind helping in this liberation war was to divide Pakistan into two, in which case India succeeded. As a Bangladeshi I am greatful to Indian people for their unwavering support in various capacities during our liberation war in 1971.
Specially deplomatic and military support from Indian government was unparalleled.
But at the end it was our liberation war and the victory was ours, without Indian support it would delay but eventually we would be capable to free our motherland. Three million people from Bangladesh died and of course 15 to 20 thousand of Indian soldiers gave their lifes as well. We shall always remember that. It is historical fact supported by evidences. Nobody can alter it.

Because Pakistan attacked India separately, which was a war between them and had nothing to do with Bangladesh. So indian soldiers died protecting their own country. It has to be clarified. Without India's help, Bangladesh would definitely not have won. You have to be honest with history from both sides.

India took that advantage of the supplies shortage and walked into Bangladeshi territory to sign the partition of Bangladesh with Pakistan, after a victorious war by Bangladeshis. Don't change History. Don't take all the credits either.

Again, they were two different wars. One contributed to the other. East Pakistan also gave an advantage to India by weakening Pakistani soldiers, which is why India got involved. Because India was one of the few who wanted Bangladesh to be independent. They call that period the Bangladeshi independence war because it was one of the biggest genocide in the world. That's why India's war was recognized under the same name. India captured the soldiers who were already defeated with the lack of supplies and by the manpower of "Bangladesh".
