- 2023 NHRA Funny Car Champion Matt Hagen led the Tony Stewart Racing crew into The Freak Nation at PRI. But Tony Stewart and his wife and Top Fuel Driver Leah Pruett had several headline making responses in the fun conversation. Included is word that Stewart will drive Pruett’s dragster in the fastest category in drag racing while Pruett plans to start a family next season. In fact, even that brought an emotional response from Leah: an appeal to the NHRA.

Attach the points to the car not the driver

The driver, not the car wins championships. Yes, the crew plays a massive role, but without a driver, you have nothing.
@@garyjackson3531 i hear what your saying, but to the point leah made in the interview it makes it hard for female drivers who decide they wanna start a family… So if they go to a championship style where the car holds the points itll allow females to have more time in car instead of having to basically step out the car at the end of the season just to start a family. I also know itd make things difficult at time of winning the championship but thats something they could iron out over time.
@MrGatorsfan2010 I hear ya. We've lost some superstar drivers to motherhood. Ashley and Courtney Force, for example. Angelle Sampey sat out for years, starting a family. She's the rare exception of someone who comes back. You can't drive pregnant, so if a woman gets pregnant during the season, it could be an issue. I don't think we've seen that yet, at least not in the professional ranks, but it's something to think about.
Drag racing is just so much different from other forms of racing, in that performance is all that matters. There are no "provisionals" that guarantee you a spot in the field. You can win the World Championship and fail to qualify for the first race of the next season. (Which has happened more than once) Every time you stage, it's High Noon in Dodge City! Do or die! (Until the next event) So something like points going to the car rather than driver is a big shift.
Now, when I raced with the IDBA, there was a rider's Championship and an owner's Championship. Still...
It's an interesting conversation, though.
@@garyjackson3531 well something they could do is do a provisional trial in the lower ranks an see if it works than casually iron out details as it gets closer to the big 4
They forgot to ask Scorpion Stewart how did he killed KWJ and then got away from that.

As tragic as it was, he got out of his car like an idiot and approached Stewart's car at the worst possible time. KWJ f*cked around and unfortunately found out
And if he wasn't high on drugs it would more than likely not have happened I am so tired of the dumbass people who bring it up and forget about it
