Hisoka has many clothes but they're all similarly themed, same with Illumi and some troupe members, Gon sometimes changes his clothes, only Kurapika sticks to his Kurta except in the manga where he starts dressing like a mafia boss
The discussion of who is the strongest is interesting because nen is such a complicated power system. It's not just about who has the most physical strength that could make them the strongest, but their strategies and who they're up against. That's the beauty of nen, it's not just a 1 to 1 system about who can punch the hardest, and the series does such a good job of demonstrating this.
The reason its good is because ITS NOT complicated its designed almost opposite to conventional shonen power system. (Naruto for eg, since its the father of shonen today)
The latter always make their magic with a lot of rules, types and limits. But as soon as the MC runs into problem, the author breaks all the rule they designed to give a cool powerup moment, which makes the whole
system spiral out of control because he has to keep doing it. (Eg every akatsuki member was designed as characters operating at the limit of the system, but they had to be beat)
Togashi made one with very few rules. There is only nentype and amount. Everything else is limit to imagination.
On top of trying something entirely new with hxh to see where it goes, he started the chimera arc by blowing his own sytem wide open and focus solely on thematic story telling. Because he is trying new things, i would guess nen would become less important to the story.
The perfected version or simplified version is cursed energy,
Its the same system with a bit more definition and rules
There is no type, the ability is actually imposed on you and there is some common techniques that are more than just application( simple domains compared to hatsu)

Togashi made the prototype to "vague" power system.
Just like naruto was an attempt to refine the landscape DBZ laid out for shonen. Jjk did the same for what hxh and others laid out.

I realized they use the word „like“ a lot in their discussions. I know where it´s usually used but it seems more than usual when they are discussing. Is this a thing from where these guys are from? Do some federal states use it more than others?
Google "valleyspeak". It isn't as common these days, but there are still some youtubers who use the word "like" in every sentence, sometimes every five words. It supposedly originated in California, but movies and tv shows made it pretty common for a while. Some people who heard it everywhere as young teenagers have never been able to break the habit. It's similar to people saying "uh" and "um" while giving a speech, more of a place-holder sound than a word. If you use a word too much, the word loses all meaning. The word "like" is like that.

You could see he was successful in eliminating the one thing that was stopping Beyond, even if he considered it all a game to annoy him. There is a reason hunters have been misteriously disappearing since Pariston is vice chairman and that may be why the queen has humanoid features]
It would be so awesome if that was. Would add so many layers to it and finally make a lot of sense as to why the Chimera ants happened.
@@happilyevernever4289 Pariston is the one currently holding the 5k ant soldiers seized from East Gorteau. So we know he plays with chimera ants as a bio weapon to toy with the Association. This was all planned.
Beyond had a contract with Kakin already but we know he needed to get rid of his father to put the plan in motion, and since Pariston is a psycho who enjoys making his friends suffer they both conspired against the victim.
This means that the first ant brought from DC was not the Queen, but smaller specimens from Beyond's last voyage. Pariston fed hunters to them and the queen was born. Then Pariston dropped the queen near NGL on purpose.
And Ging noticed what they were doing.
That is how everything makes sense.
@@neochris2 i agree with most of this but idk if it makes total sense, because they could've used regular Chimera ants from the known world, breeding them until they got an ant to eat a human; i doubt they fed them hunters because in that case, she'd have Nen, she was still a rather inferior species compared to most of her children
now, maybe they realized the ants from DC were stronger and they'd have better results with them, and maybe they did feed her hunters and I'm overestimating the biological process, but it makes the narrative a bit convoluted, which isn't unlike togashi but i'd prefer if beyond's team found the ant queen and dropped her in NGL and that's it, the hunters who disappeared would have been used in another way
i'm more interested in the fact that Kite was in Kakin at the start of the arc. he was hired in kakin to do some research, and then the guy who hired him is like "Oh i'm thinking out loud, but they found an ant leg in a whole different continent and they wanna sell it to a hunter", which in retrospective almost sounds like he was setup by Kakin, by hiring him normally and then giving him rather delicate information for free

You raise a very good point about the Kakin agency who hired Kite. It was that Kakin guy who told him about the ants.
And if I'm not wrong, the driver who brought Kate's group to the ant location said there were many hunters requesting a drive there. So maybe Kakin was sending various hunters to the location? Someone was passing the info around.
@neochris2 There are regular chimera ants and they talk about them at the beginning of the arc, but thinking about it more, it makes total sense that they all come from DC as you say.
Not to mention the queen says the King will rule the world, which maybe she wouldn't believe if she was born in DC, she'd realize how strong the species are in comparison to the human world, but if she was inbred then all pieces fall into place
I remember feeling so weird watching this arc, it was so dark compared to the previous arcs, but I ended up loving it!
Honestly had they actually just stormed the nest right then, with several other knov / morel level hunters they could probably win since pitou was the only royal guard at that point in time

I imagine the ants innate brilliance is basically part of nature - humans have the higher capacity to think and learn however all insects and animals get born with crazy smarts with what they need to survive in life and I guess when combined, it just creates these monsters that have the benefit of both. Like birds don't need to learn to build nests, spiders just know how to spin their webs and cunning is built in to most insects in general to survive a world that is entirely predatory to them. Plus these ants were already highly ranked monsters among the Hunter world so they're more jacked up than regular insects in the first place. Nen is a natural thing that is within all life so not surprised organisms that are part of nature are more intuitive when it comes to it too I think.
i understand why it may feel unbelievable for ants to be as smart and talented as they are. i had the same issue during my first watch and it broke my suspension of disbelief. in fact, it was difficult to get invested for the first half of the arc because it didn't make sense and it didn't seem fair in the sense that humans would have to put years of work and an endless amount of energy to do what the ants do in days.
this does get explained at the end of the anime though and knowing the reason makes the second watch much better.

@@yue_river (Don't read if manga spoilers) reading the manga actually gave me a lot more clarity abt the plausible origins of how the chimera ants ended up all the way from the dark continent to the borders of ngl. After watching the anime, i just assumed that the chimera ants got there from the currents of the ocean, but after learning abt pariston's connection with beyond in the manga, combined with the fact that the hunters association refused to provide more help to them for the mission and pariston immediately going to collect and withhold five thousand chimera ant eggs, suddenly a lot more things fall into place and make sense.

not saying it's impossible for him to have a hand in it or whatever but so little is known about how the dark continent borders work. with the current given explanation being so simple, it's normal to feel like there is something deeper (there probably is) but there isn't a real case for any other explanation either

I think the Chimera Ant genes basically just enhances the human genes so with the mix of them together, whatever a human can do, a Chimera Ant hybrid could do better. it's established that nen users can prolong life because of their control over life energy, they keep it instead of continuously emitting it. considering that netero is a nen master, it makes sense that he would live up to 120. there are many regular people who live to see 90. i doubt it has anything to do with the dark continent.

They are starting to see how the ants power system is a stretch I think 😅. It's the one thing that didn't sit right with me in this arc. Everything leading up to the king feels like forced power just to give the hunter association a match, but once it's all established, what happens post-king makes sense, it was just getting there is a little much. I personally like this part of the arc. If there is something that I dislike about shonen, it is how they tend to neglect the construction, rushing to show poorly justified action or drama scenes. Maybe the reason why a like this arc so much is because for me it feels like reading a good book.
exactly! I feel like it's very important to show how the characters' physical strength progresses as their mental one goes down, they need to take a step forward and a better explanation of their psychic and it's done through this part of the arc

cookie chan is honestly the ultimate ability to train and power up yourself organically (without something like a restriction), you can constantly train your aura and nen without any physical burnout, you essentially eliminate the need to sleep because you only need 30 mins to get 8 hours worth of sleep , which means you also have more time to train. it's a like a nen cheat code, because while other people are losing aura, strength and time while using their nen abilities, instead bisky gets more of all three.

for some VERY rough math, bisky was saying extending ren duration by 10 minutes takes one month on average. Episode 86 they can not hold Ren for more than an hour. By Ep. 87 they succeed in holding Ren for 3 hours so lets call that adding 2hr30min to their Ren. 2 and a half hours = 150 minutes, divided by 10 we get 15. A 2 episode power scale progression for our boys would have taken the average nen user over a year. MEANING Bisky literally was not lying when she said the chairmen gave them a deadline of a month for a task that should take a year, and they scaled to the power alone within a week. It seems like just standing in a room but this level of power growth is what makes Gon and Killua 'Monsters' as Wing called them. So when you think of Zushi, he isn't weak he is the norm
Wing did say that Zushi was special as well. He's part of the strongest, Gon and Killua are just not even comparable.

While in a sense, yes, here the arc slows down.
But it is a build up rather than a full slow down to train the characters back, because reminder that they still are physically weaker than the Bomber.
Besides that it would be a tad anticlimatic if they pull a power up out of nowhere without any consequence.
It also server to be a lot more introspective
Better power up through 100 episodes of training than the power of friendship and flashbacks clutching it for the nth time.

Watching this again i realise this arc would have ended very early if Netero and the other two just attacked the nest when its only Pitou thats the problem
Netero was sure he couldn't beat Pitou as he was, both Nov and Morel would have been wiped out
netero had to charge his zero hand before taking on any of the royal guard let alone the king. I agree they could have probably taken on pitou alone, but that would be careless as they do not know if any other royal guards have been born and heading blindly into that fight would have been unwise.
this part of the arc has Bisky and Knuckle, it can't be bad
It's not that crazy that Pitou got her power like that, you have Neon who never trained to get her nen and got her ability probably just as quick, and she's also a Specialist it was said that their powers can't be learned, refined with time yes but not learned
And they're Chimeras so their very nature explains why each generation is just stronger and overall better than those who maybe just were born a few days earlier, their evolution is just that fast and this is the main problem the hunters are facing in this arc having to deal with unpredictable biohazard

i do love your reactions, but please for those who have seen it, please do not give expectations to your friends that havent seen it. starting it off with "this part is where it loses its momentum this part is why this arc isn't perfect" is just not the play. just let them digest it themselves and if they start to talk about how much they don't like it, then you can say that. But dont give them something to expect already because who knows if they would have liked it to begin with. That is the only criticism I have about your reactions, I notice sometimes you guys say things like this to set an expectation when its really just so much better to let them digest it themselves. Other than that, please keep doing your thing. I love these reactions you guys are one of my favorites at the moment.

One thing I think some ppl miss about Gon's attack - the time he takes and saying the words is a condition - a handicap that multiplies the power he'd normally get from Ko. However much aura he has at that moment the attack is many times stronger because of the setup.

I was smiling throughout this whole thing, just little great moments in general, and the confidence of seeing what everything leads towards. Overall, the episodes actually go by pretty fast here, I'll say maybe it gets a little slow later this section, but then, as if the mangaka read your mind, it picks right back up.

In Netero Scale of Nen Training, he could do maybe hundred year more worth of life 💀
Though i recall that Age doesn't matter to Nen Power, their Physical power maybe downgraded by a lot, along with their Mental Power, but comparing it too normal people shouldn't be relevant at all.
I think its just implied that the royal guards are just rly talented at most things, they are rly smart (smarter than almost every human) and they have this rly intuitive understanding of nen just like gon and killua but to a way higher extend.
nah both gon and killua potential was actually confirmed higher then the royal guards, they have the most room to grow from all the characters.
i have never said anything about potential i only mentioned intuitive understanding. Wich means without training they know what to do. I have said nothing about their potential because we cant know it because we never saw them train and we dont even know if training would be effective for ants. So yeah i agree with gon and killua having higher potential but their intuitive understanding right after learning nen is waay waay lower as you can see pitou basically masters her hatsu within a few day where gon and killua needed months to get to the point where they could use hatsu.@@lucylucian2564

Don't forget, as crazy as it sounds, when the guard are born, they are effectively babies, and start to develope a lot in a short amount of time. I don't think this growth is linear their whole lives.

You gotta also remember strong people tend to downplay themselves so they stay aware. It’s the strong people who are cocky and think they’re above it all who die due to being blind sighted. Netero has been around and fought enough people to never downplay his opponents. He mostly downplays himself. He could probably 1v3 the Royal guards and come out on top.

Netero most likely does use Nen to slow aging. In Heaven's Arena they explain that Ten slows the effects of aging, as you shroud yourself with your life energy instead of letting it leak away like non-nen users. Zetsu can be used to recover from fatigue since you draw all your shrouded life energy into your body.

Right? I like how all of Morel's talk about "power level doesn't matter in a nen battle for a TRUE hunter" is immediately thrown out the window the second Netero scopes out Pitou. Morel himself says no hunter can fight that thing, based only on its power level. Pitou didn't even have special nen abilities at this point, but they refused to even try taking Pitou on. Guess not one of these three is a TRUE hunter then, not even the chairman himself. That's kinda sad.
