Nanping is bigger than Shanghai and Beijing combined. You can also add Shenzhen and they will still be smaller than Nanping. Ofcourse in terms of area only.
Nanping's nickname in the 90s were indeed 'little Chongqing'. But unfortunately, Nanping was not much developed in the last 2 decades, making it more and more left behind
as a Chinese I can tell the video started in a newly developed district. road/building all pretty new. 4:36 crossing a bridge we arrived at the old district. old road/building. trust me, you want to live in the old district although it doesn't look as pretty. everything is within walking distance.

Outsides-restaurants table--actually there're quite a lot after the night falls, the peak time is around 9pm~2am. You don't see much children I think it's because of they're in schools. Well, of course we all facing a serious fertility problem nowadays.
The reason why you don't see many outdoor restaurant tables is that they're usually not found in Nanping's old town area as the city is built on the hills, there is basically not enough land. The population dencity of Nanping is higher than almost all ciites in Europe (300,000 residents in a built-up area of around 20 km²). You can find outdoor restaurant tables on the outskirt areas of the city (which is not filmed in the video.). But generally, people prefer to dine indoors as the weather can get too hot in summer. By the way, Nanping's summer is about 5-6 months long.
I see valleys, I see hills beyond and possibly mountains. I see a neat little city sitting right on top of all of them with a river running right under it. I wonder what is beyond those hills and valleys? Maybe mother nature herself untamed, just a stone throw away from downtown Nanping?
Nanping has two districts: Yanping（延平） and Jianyang （建阳) The distance between them is about 100km 😜 The video clip before 00:37:00 is Yanping, after 37:00 is Jianyang. Jianyang is my hometown. I love Jianyang.
i visited china frequently before the pandemic. in the past 30 yrs, the entire china was basically rebuilt. even the poorest regions of china look pretty new and clean nowadays. those poorer cities usually have a bit more older buildings and streets are a bit disorganized. and poorer cities of china look very similar to taiwan - clean but disorganized. although taiwan has higher gdp per capita than mainland china, taiwan's infrastructures and cities are far behind china nowadays. its so difficult to rebuild or renovate taiwan's ugly cities due to 100% private ownership of land despite the govt has been pushing for urban renewal projects in taiwan for more than 20 yrs. all u need is 1 unit of the entire apartment building refuses to participate in apartment renewal project, the entire building can not be renewed. over time, taiwan's cities look older, uglier, and more run down.

The fact that it's the largest country by population, the fact that it's the 3rd largest country by land area. The fact that it has extremely important export links with the largest and most relevant countries on the planet. There are many things that make the poorest city in a Chinese province look a hundred years ahead of the biggest cities in Central or Eastern Europe for example. Nanping was once the smallest and ecomically least developed city in Fujian province. It looks very pretty now, but I am not sure it has changed that status yet because all cities in Fujian are pretty well developed now.

第一次去南平，是90年代初学校组织去武夷山游玩，火车到南平中转。
模模糊糊印象中，一大早从福州坐火车中午到南平，感觉南平就一条沿江路和上山路。客车站的破木板房的售票口老师排了半小时才买到票，到天黑才到武夷山。
当时老师介绍南平就只记得，湛卢、干将、莫邪就来之南平。龙渊和太阿，化龙而去。也是南平的地标。
那时候南平交通不是很方便，绿皮火车是最快捷的，现在有了动车和多条高速，交通非常便捷。

我是台灣人, 我的父母都是從福卅最來的, 抗戰時父親帶著全家躲到南平山区他自已蓋的木屋裡, 我雖在台湾出生, 但自小聽我父親講到福州、 南平、 武夷山的種種, 我只能憑想像去拼湊, 現在我老了, 老公也再一兩年就退休, 我們真想回去看看, 但是我現在坐輪椅, 不知當地的無障礙如何？方便我回去尋根嗎？

无障碍这个做的不怎么样，毕竟小城市 况且南平还是个多山的地方，不过现在回去也很方便 南平那边的公交车对持台胞证的台湾人是免费的
当然可以，只要不爬山就没什么大障碍。我老家位于南平下面的县，也是福建最穷的几个县这几年都开始推行无障碍基础建设了，虽然不一定比你那边好。欢迎回来看看！

福建省的大部分城市的舊城區長得好像台灣。。。。大陸城市最像台灣的地區是廣東的潮汕地區，簡直就是一個模子刻出來的。
