Amitabh Bachchan's talking to Punjab2000.com in punjabi ! about his new film PAA releasing soon. Synopsis Auro (Amitabh Bachchan) is an intelligent, witty 13 year old boy with an extremely rare genetic defect that causes accelerated ageing. He suffers from progeria like syndrome. Mentally he is 13, very mormal, but phsically he looks 5 times older. Inspite o his condition, Auro is a very happy boy. he lives with his mother Vidya (Vidya Balan), who is a gynaecologist. Amol Arte ( Abhishek Bachchan) is a youg, progressive and full of ideals, politician. He is out to prove to the world that 'politics' is not a bad word. He is a man with a mission. Auro is Amol's son.

Mother tongue is first language, his first language most probably is not Punjabi although he is as fluent as a first speaker.

When i was ten year old i saw movie "suhaag"when amitabh was collecting money for Durga temple,he stopped amjad khan car,after getting donation from amjad,he giuded his car saying "jaandai jaandai"after hearing him say that i thaught he was a punjabi Pakistani because that phrase "jaandai"is used regular in Pakistan later on i found out that Amitabh mother was from Lyalpur Pakistan

Amitabh's punjabi is so pakistani in its pronounciation i.e. its alot softer & rounded, as opposed 2 'sikh-punjabi' as spoken by the host in this video which is a more coarse & harder dialect, which is spoken in india.
Yes 100% My parents and relatives are from sahiwal Montgomery and i grew up speaking urdu and punjabi due to my mother speaking to us in our native 2 languages and then when i visited Jalandar and phagwara and I went to buy some shirts and I spoke punjabi and the men were so impressed they couldn't believe how well I spoke punjabi and how correct it was.
Because his mother was from Pakistan's Punjab thus obviously he would pick that dialect, this is the dialect spoken in my house as well.

@RawalpindiBrittania I agree totally on that one. I also believe that the state or local languages too should be recognized, & the people speaking only those not be marginalized in any way. We people need to understand thar knowledge & information is power, & learning another language doesn't mean u've 2 leave ur language, it's just that u've 2 learn another 1, or face the limitation that limited skills bring with it. "elite" in Punjab speak english, wannabees speak Punjabi

I can read it & understand it quite well, & can even write it pretty well, only not as fast as I can write Hindi & english. & Hindi & english both r my 1st languages, Many of the people here in america don't believe that I am Indian. They think I an from UK. But then they r americans, what can I say.

@aparaajita10. at least you have basic knowledge, thats what matters most. i can speak punjabi hindi and urdu but just as well Im no expert at these langauges because i was born in the u.k and speak english as a first language.
@RawalpindiBrittania I was speaking from my first hand observation. When I was there 30 years ago, & even now when I visit, or speak on the phone, I see a tendency among those who think they are educated &/or modern speak english or switch 2 it the moment they see some one approach them. It took me a lot of years to make my own relatives both in Punjab & even here, to speak with me in Hindi or Punjabi {I'm not very good at speaking it :( }

@aparaajita10. state languages r recognised, its just a shame that south asians living outside of india and pakistan r not that familiar with the national languages of both countries. i dont agree with ur last comments, its the educated that speak english and secondly in imoprtant institutions in punjab, such as schools, clledges, universities, banks e.t.c hindi is spoken, although punjabi is the state language

It's about respecting other people. their languages & cultures. Punjabi aur Hindi to both r our own only, Indian. & when he speaks, te tum ko gall samajh mein aa gayi hai na? @aparaajita10. im also punjabi and to my knowlegde most punjabis speak hindi/urdu, not so much those punjabis living in europe and north america though.
hindi is the national language of india so every indian should be able to speak at least basic hindi. even in punjab the official languages are hindi and english. punjabi on the other hand is the state language.

He can speak Punjabi because his mother is Punjabi so technically he is half Punjabi, he can speak Bengali because his wife is Bengali, there is no Maratha connection in his family so obviously their is no Marathi speaker in his family so how would he get exposure of Marathi? Now you can say he lives in Maharashtra. Yes you are right but he lives in high society where English is lingua franca not Marathi so technically he has no technical Marathi exposure.

His accent is spot on but vocabulary not too great. Seems to be out of practice. Bacha is called baal or yaana or nyana in Punjabi.
