    You have to admit that no matter what brand ratchet you destroy during this test, this is by no means the intended use for a ratchet..

    I bet ratchets with lower teeth count have a stronger ratcheting mechanism because each tooth is bigger.

      Is two better than one? Simply higher tooth ratchets have more contact points. Like a 40 tooth ratchet has one contact point, Snap-On actually has 7 points of contact. The teeth on the ratchet don't break, but the actual mechanism or "contact points" do. Snap-On has high quality steel so they can use less steel to make a stronger ratchet than something like more steel because they have to substitute for the quality of the metal. Just something to put into consideration.

      its true lower teeth count ones have thicker deeper meatier teeth and can take more torque before stripping out, its the same problem with fine thread bolts, they may make more clamping force but a grade 8 fine thread bolt will strip out from over torque easier than a grade 8 course will, very true metal strength is most of it but i bet snap on as retardedly overpriced as it is as still better metal than the duralast harbor freight bargain bin ratchet, but because it has less but stronger teeth it holds more weight, contact points dont mean anything, the more contact points the more contact points to strip out, if it were just one giant dog that cam out an engaged with a wheel with 10 huge teeth on it you would likely snap the square end off it or the handle before you broke the ratchet mechanism, the high teeth ones are a luxury item, so you can move the ratchet back and forth an inch and it will still ratchet and it will ratchet way easier, so less chance you get one of those bolts that you cant un do with your hand and you put the ratchet on it and it walks the bolt back and forth and also you have an old craftsman set like me the ratchet goes like 3 inches before it clicks 1 time, sturdy and strong, yes, annoying, oh yea, but id rather have a strong annoying ratchet than a pussy fancy ratchet especially if its a snap on, only snap on tools i have are a big crescent wrench and i got it for free when it was supposedly 300 bucks new, its nice and has almost no play at all but i have an actual crescent brand one the same size and it performs better and has only slightly more play and likely only costed about 40 bucks if that (got both of em for free on the same day)

    The Carlyle ratchet did hold up better. The teeth didn't go, and when it did break he was using a cheater bar. I would definitely save the extra $200 on a Carlyle and buy some other tools for the price of that one snap-on. Great video

    This test you performed on this Snap-On ratchet is pretty impressive, if you ask me. To me it passed the test, for that I would never use mine in this manner. It took a great effort from you & your poundage before it gave way. This is why we own Breaker Bars. A courser tooth ratchet should withstand more abuse.

    Hmm. I have to wonder, it seemed to break right after you twirled the direction change, not before that.
    Did you maybe not have it properly engaged when you applied the force on it? Normally I would make sure all the pawls are fully engaged before using it by allowing it to ratchet backwards a bit before heaving off on it.

    Love your videos bro, each one has helped steer me towards/away from certain products. Any chance of doing a torture test on a Gearwrench ratchet? Either the 120xp or 84 tooth to be precise? I have heard nothing but great things about them and i was wondering if they hold true to whats said. Either way, thanks for the informative videos

    The 32 teeth dura last is going to hold longer due to the tooth count, not surprised what's so ever! But working on a car where you are not gonna be standing on the ratchet to break a bolt loose which ratchet would you have?

    damn the Carlyle took way more I'd like to see you test the SK Roto ratchets which are the original of which all others are copied from the model numbers are 3870 and 48375 I own both and the 3870 has taken off lug nuts I could get off with a 4 way and suspension bolts and other I haven't tried to use it hard yet but is an SK tuff one design from facom and is rare took me a year to find and both are no longer made but they do have rebuild kits I guarantee they surpass the Carlyle and most definitely the snap on that was just sad no way I'd buy one of those turds.

  • @chrishodgdon11786
    @chrishodgdon11786 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm sure that it broke there by design I would much rather have the ratcheting mechanism break then some other part of the ratchet because I can always just replace the guts and compared to what happened to the Carlyle same style ratchet I prefer what happened to the snap on .......I have one of these ratchets and I couldn't be happier with it

    This proves nothing at all. You're using a fine tooth 3/8 ratchet. Intentionally trying to break it. Do you know how much torque you're putting on it? You're a pretty big guy giving it your all. Thats what 1/2 in is for. You wouldnt haul a 2 car trailer with a chevy cavalier would ya?

    It did worse than the harbor freight at least you had to use a cheater bar on that one. That’s a terrible way to do a tool test. I’m sorry your but hurt because you’ve broken your tools because you don’t know what tool for what job. Lol

  • @GodKedon
    @GodKedon 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    All the more reason to buy harbor freight. Used to buy tools off the trucks, then my snap on guy got all pissy about warranty and saying if I don't spend atleast a grand a month on his truck that I'm not worth his time. I found being in a line of work where I use hand tools every day - it's about when, not if the tool will break. So having two or three ratchets, plus every socket you would need for the price of one snap on ratchet is way better - especially when one of your tools breaks.

  • @johnmatthew4308
    @johnmatthew4308 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Harbor Freight is WAAAYY cheaper, is professional grade AND the store is open every day of the week. That Snapon ratchet will take at least a week for a replacement IF your truck guy doesn't have one on his truck. The best part about Harbor Freight ratchets and other tools is immediate replacement without any questions. And, they're cheap enough to buy two at a time so you have a backup on hand if one breaks.
    I'd NEVER buy a Snapon ratchet! 😂😂😂
