    That 2003 Minnesota series annoyed me probably the most. After Game 4, with the Canucks up 3-1 in the series, Todd Bertuzzi told some Minnesota fans to say goodbye to their team, that they wouldn't be coming back to Minnesota to play hockey. Add to that, Crawford's refusal to play the backup (Auld?) over Cloutier when it was clear he'd lost his focus... As you say, the door was open for a Cup run. I continue to believe this was Vancouver's best chance, ever (including their 3 Finals appearances).

    My #1 is still 2011 game 7. The home team had won every game going in and it looked like the stars were finally going to align for us, and we blew it monumentally.

    I've never been a Canucks' fan; but for an honourable mention, I would add April 22, 1975 - a 5-4 overtime loss to the Montreal Canadiens.
    The Canucks were facing elimination in Game 5 at the Montreal Forum of this quarter-final series. The out-manned Canucks fought the Canadiens admirably for all sixty minutes of regulation time.
    Late in the first overtime, Guy Lafleur had the puck along near the corner in the Canucks' zone. He attempted a centering shot-pass to Yvan Cournoyer who was at the goal mouth. Cournoyer never touched the puck, because Vancouver defenseman Dennis Kearns deflected the puck past goaltender Gary Smith and into his own net, eliminating his own team.
    An inconsolable Dennis Kearns left the ice and did not stay for the post-series handshakes. It was certainly a dreadful way for a team to have their first ever Stanley Cup playoff appearance come to an end.
    Now nearing fifty years later, it remains the only time the two teams have met in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

    It's amazing how the perspective changes on a few of these when you are a Blackhawks fan. The 7 to 5 game in 2009 is one of my best memories. And Chelios had back to back OT winners in 1995.

  • @kingstonpierce2730

    I would definitely add game 7 against Calgary in 2004; that was a far more disappointing loss than some of these examples on the list ... they were going into the playoffs with a division title, up against a mediocre Calgary team. Probably would have been a different story had the shadow of the Moore incident never shrouded the team. The loss of Bertuzzi hurt. I was at that game. The crowd went insane when Cooke tied it with 1 second left. The atmosphere went from the stratosphere down to the mantle when Calgary ended it in OT. What was particularly brutal was Cloutier finally proving his worth in the first few games, only to get injured. Everything went wrong that year.
    edit: I forgot to mention the high that followed the fanbase into game 7 after an epic overtime win in game 6!

      I think other than Burrow's goal in 2011, I think from the TV that's the loudest I have ever heard it. When espn 2 went to commercial, the announcers thought they were not still on and one of them said "Holy S**" but stops right at the end. I can't find it anywhere but will swear to my grave I heard it lol.

    1) 1993 Game 7 vs NYI - first time I cried after a hockey game
    2) 1997 Game 5 vs PHI - Mario’s last game before retirement
    3) 2008 Game 6 vs DET - Hossa was sooooo close to tying that game at the buzzer
    4) 2000 Game 4 vs PHI - Pens won first 2 games in Philly, lost game 3 and Keith Primeau wins game 4 in 5th OT. Series was over after that.
    5) Winter Classic 2010 vs WSH - Sid was deep into the best scoring stretch of his entire career and a David Steckel check out him out for almost a year.

    Game 4 2009 might be painful too. Canucks up 2-1 in the series, up 1-0 with 3 minutes left, Willie Mitchell doesn't clear the puck, Martin Havlat scores, sends it to OT, then BC native Andrew Ladd wins it in OT for Chicago. Hawks win the next two games in the series to win in 6 games. I truly believe that if Havlat doesn't score, Blackhawks lose the series in 5 or 6 and thus don't face Detroit in the Conference Final, meaning the odds of getting Hossa that offseason are slimmer (facing him in the Conference Final showed him the Hawks were young and on the rise). That Havlat goal is the most underrated and unknown goal in Chicago Blackhawks history.

    As a fan of the Sharks, it's hard to top 2016 game 6, but 2014 game 5 was my least favorite Sharks memory. 3-0 shutout, Sharks up 3-2 in the series and I knew after that game they were getting reverse swept. When Raffi Torres is the hardest skating member of your favorite team, that's a wake up call to realize your team isn't going anywhere.

  • @kulba21
    @kulba21 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good list. My thoughts on each. 15: first game after a long shut down. Many had written off Minny at the start. Loss seemed inevitable. 14. Yeah, very underwhelming performance for a game 7, rest or no rest. 13. If anything, a disappointing way to leave the Coliseum. Canucks also blew 3 third period leads in that series. 12. My first vivid Canucks memory was hearing my Dad go nuts when Ronning won Game 3 of that series in OT. 11. Agree with everything you said. Once they lost in that fashion, you figured it they were going to have to win 4 games at Rogers Arena to win the Cup. 10. Lidstrom on Cloutier will be talked about forever in Canuck lore. 9. Wasn't born until two years later. But I'm guessing they weren't beating NYI regardless. 8. Worst 3rd period meltdown I ever saw. Thanks Roberto. 7. Game 7 was way more disappointing for me because I was there and they had a 2-0 lead. 6. Bill Ranford was a Canuck killer at that time. 5. '93 is a lot like '03 for me. Path was somewhat paved. Would have steamrolled Toronto. Imagine a Canucks-Habs final?! 4. Heartbreaker. enough said. 3. Not old enough to remember, but watched the highlights many times. 2. When I saw how jacked up Shawn Thornton was in his warmup interview, I knew there would be no Cup presentation that night. 1. Let them off the hook that night, no doubt about it.

    Ummm what about 2004 Game 7 vs. Calgary? That team could have made a run and they tie it up late, just to lose.
    Also in your honorable mentions would probably be Game 6 2003 vs. Minnesota (I cried), or gotta be one of the early games against LA in 2012. 2013 game 4 against San Jose because of the sweep, as well as I thought that game signaled the end of that cores’s cup window.

    I happened to be at Game 1 in 1982 in person, and it was painful, not because I'm a Canucks fan. i was rooting for the Islanders in that one. But it hurt beause I always liked Harold Snepsts, and he made the turnover, and it was as bad a turnover as you could imagine. He put the puck right on Mike Bossy's (MIKE BOSSY!) stick, right in front of the net. Ugh! Probably just fatigue. He played a lot of minutes and it was right at the end of the first OT. I don't think it made any difference. The Canucks win that, they just lose in five games instead of four. And even without that turnover, they probably lose that game anyway in the second OT.

    at the time I was not as into hockey as I am now and only really my grandfather was a hockey fan in our family
    If I were going to give my big disapointments
    its the Detroit game you mentioned, the Chicago games you mention
    Game 5 vs Chicago in 2011 because my now wife then girlfriend got food poisoning that night from bad chinese and so I can't forget it
    The Finals game in 2011 where Raymond almost gets paralyzed and boston gets little more than a 'Un Uh Un *wags finger*" from the refs
    and yeah Joel Ottos Kicking motion.

    So many painful memories Shannon. I can replay the Chelios and Shuchuk OT goals in my head. I was at the game when Lidstrom scored from centre and remember the great start the Canucks had that game with Bertuzzi running over Chelios. Smyl's post in 89 and Lafayette and Gelinas hitting the post in 94. I also remember losing to Chicago in 09 and 10 and was shocked when they let Willie Mitchell walk away. And finally the loss to Boston. What a series. I still think the Canuck's win it if Hamhuis doesn't get hurt from the huge hit he threw on Lucic in Game 1 and if Aaron Rome doesn't get the biggest playoff suspension ever because daddy's boy plays on the other team. Would love to see them win at least 1 cup in my life time. The team now has some future promise and potential or we will continue to get these painful yet great memories as Canuck fans!

    I’m surprised 2012 isn’t up here of any LA games I thought game 5 2012 1st round would be here because it put my friend who is a Vancouver fan in tears. The kings had nothing going all game got a decent goal then win it in or when Schneider was playing great.

    As a Hawks fan I just went back and watched that game from 05/03/10. It definitely would have been a tough one to lose for Canucks fans, but that's how that rivalry grew. Personally I like the present Canucks team and I was cheering for them vs. Vegas. I think the Canucks have now replaced the Maple Leafs as the Canadian team that I'm going to root for to win the Stanley Cup.

    Ottawa had a sweet line up around 2002. Lalime letting in weak goals from at the blue line or neutral zone. Deflating the team. Heartbreaking for back to back playoff runs. And 2007 finals ott and Anaheim.

    • @OttawaRocks
      @OttawaRocks 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lalime's brutal play during deciding games was definitely hard to take. However, losing to Anaheim didn't feel too bad as I felt they were clearly the better team. That said, I couldn't believe Pronger was getting away with illegal shots to the head on both Detroit (Holmstrom) and Ottawa (McAmmond). Yes, he served 1 game each time but likely deserved a series suspension (in both cases). These days when I hear about Pronger's own concussion issues I wonder if Karma is meting out justice.

    I've been getting a lot of recommends for your older videos lately, and as someone who despises the Canucks, this was great. 😂
    As an Avs fan, on your equivalent of Game 6 in 2011, for me it's Game 6 against Detroit in 2002. Up 3-2 in the series, had a chance to close it out, and then Patrick Roy has the dumbest moment of his career and the Avs don't score after that the rest of the series...20 years later, they finally made up for it with the Cup win, but until then I was angry about that game since I was 8.

  • @Tomten0

    2014 series against the Kings, the first two games were a slaughter then we win game 3 and I think we're going to sweep it instead they turn it around on us and we loose a 3-0 series lead. That hurt.
    When we traded to get Raffi Torres and what he did as a San Jose Shark, he was a dirty player before and it didn't get better when he was in San Jose Sharks.
    I'm not sure I will ever forgive San Jose for trading for him.

My dad and I got into watching hockey that spring and watched Vancouver make it all the way to game 7 of the finals. I became a die hard Canucks fan during that cup run and have been ever since.

    Hawks fan. My most painful memories are (watching since 2012-2013 season I think?):
    #1 2014 WCF Game 7 against LAK. We lost it quickly in OT. I knew whoever won that game would win the cup. Quick was a brick wall.
    #2 2016 RD 1 Game 7 against Blues. A comeback fallen short (was down 3-1). Guess in hindsight it was our last chance at a run.

    I'm a Leafs fan but boy I hope the Canucks win a Stanley Cup just to see your reaction. Imagine watching them for 40 years and not seeing them win anything, I can't imagine that because I've only been a Leafs fan for 16 years 😂😂😂 (I'm slowly getting there). But really though, it would be nice for Canada and for you especially, you work so hard everyday making videos, they need to win for dedicated fans like you Shannon. Plus you've seen Boston and Dallas win cups, it went in order of how much you like them (first Dallas, then Boston), If the Canucks ever win it would complete the pattern lol.

    Life long fan here. As a 60 year old who has seen all the ups and downs of the Canucks I can only conclude one thing: the team is CURSED, from the spin of that damned wheel for the #1 pick (buffalo won Gilbert Perrault, we got Talon) it’s been bad luck. I’m convinced we will NEVER win the Cup.

    One of the most painful... 2012 loss against LA. I don't remember a specific game but after that... I knew that despite the foundations still being there for the best team the franchise had ever iced, it was going to be broken up with knee jerk reactions. Lock-out, of course, didn't help matters. Team should've been a modern dynasty.

    • @illsuive
      @illsuive 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They were a regular season dynasty, as a Kings fan beating the nucks in the playoffs was our biggest mental barrier to achieving stanley success because you guys had our number, a scary record every year, along with oodles of fans at our home games.

    • @AltruisticHedonism
      @AltruisticHedonism 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@illsuive Eh... Quick played out of his god damn mind that run: 1.41 GAA, 0.946SV% and 3SO's. And if the Duncan Keith didn't concuss Daniel Sedin, the Canucks might have found enough scoring still to advance.
      Whatever though... I'm still far more salty at Boston and the NHL :P
      And am bewildered Benning is still GM... bottom 4 for his entire tenure, making the playoffs twice (arguably only once with 'his' team) vs. Gillis as perennial contenders yet Benning has now surpassed Gillis' time. FAQ is joke.

    So the games that left me the most deflated and disappointed and hurt
    1)Game 7 vs Wild 2003. It felt horrible. The finals were there for us.
    2) game 7 vs Flames 2004. After Matt Cooke tied it, how could we lose? Just finish them power play and let's win it. Utterly devastated. Ended so quick. I think I was in shock.
    3) game 7 Rangers 1994- felt horrible. Worse than 2011 just bc I think we all knew we were losing in game 7 in 2011. At least I did. I thought we could win it in 94.
    4) game 4 vs Chicago-1995- until they scored, I never thought we would lose. Truly. Sucked to lose so many close ones.
    5) 1996 colorado- again lost so many close ones. End of that core group as well.
    6) 2012 hurt. Any of the losses.

    My least favorite game as a Bruins fan would be Game 7 between Boston and St Louis in 2019. They lost 4-1, and It didn’t really matter that the Bruins had the best season in the NHL afterwards, I knew that if they didn’t win Game 7, they wouldn’t win ever again with this core, followed by Game 3 against Tampa Bay in 2020 where they lost 8-1, which showed beyond a shadow of a doubt that Boston wasn’t coming back in this series. Knowing the stubborn attitude of Jeremy Jacobs, instead of trying to sell off luxury pieces and embrace a fast rebuild like the Celtics did in 2014, they’ll instead ride the wave until nobody is valuable on that team and they’ve damaged the core and prospect pool beyond repair.

    Not even showing up in game 7 of 2011 finals has to be the worst for me. They had issues all series, so I get why you put the others on there... but anything can happen in a game 7. 3 periods of hockey. They could have regrouped and come out with a strong, hard-fought game.. and I just saw NOTHING. A tired team ready to give up. Heartbreak from the opening draw. And worst of all, knowing that we'd get to game 7 of the finals twice, and waste it twice. Worst moment...

    2016 RD 1 against the Blues as a hawks fan for a bunch of reasons. 1 being the blues and it's pure hatred for the blues. With Detroit there was rivalry but there was respect but St. Louis there was nothing to like about that team. Backes, Oshie, Ott, and Reaves a total goon squad. 2 the near comeback. The momentum was on our side going into game 7 with 2 straight wins. 3 double post by seabrook. When that puck did not go in I knew the game was over. 4 the end of a dynasty. Probably the last chance at the cup for a long time and it hurts. A close 2nd would be game 7 vs LA but the sting was temporary because of 2015.
