I can't believe all the faff just to even start to charge the car. Its like going back in time and using a dial up modem.. or a spectrum computer when you have to wait for it to read the tape, then when it gets to the end, the game didn't load. 😅😅

I get what you mean about the screens on modern cars and mobile phones. Several years ago we had our brand new Jaguar parked outside the house, (off the road) when a van which was proven to be travelling at 50MPH (in a. 30MPH zone) swerved off the road and hit our car. It wrote off our new car, the van belonging to the kitchen fitter who was working at our house and the van which had caused the accident. It was later proved that the driver of the van was texting on his mobile phone. All of this tech is dangerous if used whilst driving.
Totally agree about having too much touch screen technology in modern vehicles. They are definitely a distraction from the road, yet are somehow legal. It's absolutely bonkers.

Yep. She did. wasn't pleased. However as I said we went to London. Try that in a petrol car thanks to the government. Congestion Charge, Low Emission Zone. Nightmare. We always use Sarahs VW Golf Diesel for our family car. She hates EV's.
It’s the same at Cherwell valley Lee, four fast chargers under a canopy were put in place circa October 2022, they’re still shrink wrapped awaiting a suitable power supply. This means a big ass cable from a substation which more than likely will be in a trench (expensive) and no one wants to pay matey, it’s that simple. What super fun that charging malarkey would be in a blizzard or torrential rain under the non existent canopy.
As for the lane hogging, Ive been a Van driver all my life and it's best to forget them, overtake and pretend it never happened. Life is too long to worry about other drivers, don't let it ruin your day and carry on giving way. Share the love.
The most dangerously distracting thing in a car is having a heated argument while driving, next is texting, then faffing with touch screens as the disappointment of them not working is highly distracting. Phone use with total voice control is not so bad. Ai will need to be programmed to take over when the human crosses the unacceptable danger red line; otherwise insurance will be suspended. Oh, and were those low-down EV "pumps" and heavy cables designed to make money for Chiropractors?
I have one I don't use it except for the radio even the SatNav is confusing it's easier to drive by instinct & follow signs technology is Devils work said that when mobile phones came in yes & I was right
And unnecessary my latest car is a Ford Puma hybrid not bought from new it's a 9volt battery so petrol consumption is very good its also extremely comfortable which is a big plus for me now I am older plus I & am higher up off our now normal flooded roads so feel safer after years in low profile sport cars racing around

Except a Taycan with poverty spec 50kW DC DC converter is woefully incompatible on a Tesla supercharger. It means a 45 minute charge time instead of 15 minute for the same charge. 🤷
I have used long term car parks at Edinburgh and Glasgow airports that include EV charging.They will charge to 80 or 100% as desired. I found it very good and before anyone says,it didn't self combust.

Some say having home solar is the way to go but in Australia if there is too much power into the grid they charge you money to accept it or even turn your solar off, And if that is not enough some politicians think it is a great idea if you plug your car into the grid at peak times to charge then if there is high demand they are looking to drain your EV to help the grid and that is the exact time you need power for the next day and can't afford to give any.

So if you can't charge and have no charge left your stuck. So that proves it's better to have a petrol or diesel car. A quick stop at the expensive motorway service and off again.
I bought a new petrol car in March this year and said to the dealer at the start I would not buy electric and they had to accept it or no sale. I got my petrol car in April. 👍
my 12 year old diesel car over 900 miles on a full tank driving at motorway speeds, but if I ease off a bit on the speed I can get to 1000 miles! I am now celebrating my 72nd birthday, so I have no intention of getting an electric car, the one I have now will probably outlive me, LOL.
I think you will find, if you put in a petrol station for petrol and diesel vehicles they can fill up in 5 mins and be on there way home. The positive effects of not having to drink service station coffee and not using the dirty toilets has benefits all round. My dad was a tool maker and change is coming.
Don't worry about the 80%. The battery management computer deals with that. When your car says 100% it's actually only 80% The 20% is out of your reach.
In answer to your touchscreen question. As you rightly point out it’s been decided it’s dangerously distracting to use your mobile phone whilst driving and been made a specific offence with associated penalties. Touchscreens whilst equally distracting are allowed as are sat nav’s etc HOWEVER it’s conditional on it being used safely at the time your doing it otherwise if you have or cause an accident or even an incident you could be held to be driving dangerously or without due care and attention anyway so driver be aware

I know for myself an EV isn't an option because I travel to and around remote & rural areas so the infrastructure just doesn't exist but watching your video I am actually amazed how bad it is even for a regular long distance motorway journey. The technology and infrastructure just isn't there yet. Check out solid state batteries. That is the technology that will make EV vehicles way more efficient!
You should challenge the Transport Minister, whoever that is this week, to drive a EV from the House of Commons to their constituancy Vs Geoff in a Diesel Volvo and film the journey in real time and costs and then get the Minister to explain the benefits...

Drove home from Salisbury to Folkestone at around 11 this morning averaged 59 mph and 37 mpg, 155 miles, only saw a few ev’s probably all charging! (Hopefully that’s the future) , leave the roads for drivers!❤
I have been driving 60 years , now, Lee with only one accident, last century. I am like Geoff, I used to like the older Volvos and Discoveries. Nearly always bought used but low milage. Now back to a Jaguar XE 2.0t petrol. Rear wheel drive, always was the best. It has a few silly things on it but generally "clean" as far as tech goes. 52 mpg on one trip. Get rid of all the silly screens ,except SatNav. No lane assist, no stop start which buggers your starter and engine.

In answer to your touchscreen question.
As you rightly point out it’s been decided it’s dangerously distracting to use your mobile phone whilst driving and been made a specific offence with associated penalties.
Touchscreens whilst equally distracting are allowed as are sat nav’s etc HOWEVER it’s conditional on it being used safely at the time your doing it otherwise if you have or cause an accident or even an incident you could be held to be driving dangerously or without due care and attention anyway so driver be aware
Not illegal to use a phone in a cradle, I believe.

I know for myself an EV isn't an option because I travel to and around remote & rural areas so the infrastructure just doesn't exist but watching your video I am actually amazed how bad it is even for a regular long distance motorway journey. The technology and infrastructure just isn't there yet. Check out solid state batteries. That is the technology that will make EV vehicles way more efficient!
You should challenge the Transport Minister, whoever that is this week, to drive a EV from the House of Commons to their constituancy Vs Geoff in a Diesel Volvo and film the journey in real time and costs and then get the Minister to explain the benefits...

Drove home from Salisbury to Folkestone at around 11 this morning averaged 59 mph and 37 mpg, 155 miles, only saw a few ev’s probably all charging! (Hopefully that’s the future) , leave the roads for drivers!❤
I have been driving 60 years , now, Lee with only one accident, last century. I am like Geoff, I used to like the older Volvos and Discoveries. Nearly always bought used but low milage. Now back to a Jaguar XE 2.0t petrol. Rear wheel drive, always was the best. It has a few silly things on it but generally "clean" as far as tech goes. 52 mpg on one trip. Get rid of all the silly screens ,except SatNav. No lane assist, no stop start which buggers your starter and engine.
