HUZZAH!! 70's kid here too...miss those times- best toys, best shows and movies, especially the music. I could go on and on. I remember in school those educational films the teacher would show the class. We kids had a lot more freedom (and IMO smarts) than kids today.
Sadly, the same tired refrain of every old fogey of every generation. I guaranty you that today's youth will be saying the same thing about the 2020's forty years from now.
The best decade of my life. High school in 72. College in 76. And all my family in their prime in between. At 65, I'm the only one left. But man what a ride.

I spent countless hours with a Duncan butterfly yo-yo trying to perfect tricks. The fad peaked in my area in 1973.
Still have my CB radio, and I still have my FM/AM 8 track radio which still both work!
Paddle ball and Klacker contests with your friends. Folded paper football games at the lunch room tables. Great times!
Magic 8 balls, Velvet black light posters, burning incense, making 'fortune tellers' out of paper that you open and close with your fingers (popular with the girls), Hula hoops!
I miss all of the 70s. It was a different way of life. Thank you for reliving that era for me.
I miss people caring about the truth (sixties into the seventies). People would argue/debate and actually address each other's points. News people reported the news without selling propaganda. That's what I miss the most.

Especially if it was brown. Lots of 70's vehicles were brown or green. And cars had massive engines in them - even the family cars.
Yo-Yos, Frisbees, 8-Track Tapes, coin counting machines that waitresses had on their belts, typewriters, fancy ashtrays, waterbeds.

The roller rinks were huge back then.
I remember Levi's corduroy pants, and that little "vit-vit-vit" noise they would make when you walked in them.

I became of age in the 1970's and graduated from high school in 1976. There are many things i miss about the 70's and a lot of things I don't miss at all.

My aunt's husband was the photographer in the family and even had his own dark room to develop pictures 📷 Farrah Fawcett proved to the world she could act with those great performances in "The Burning Bed" and "Small Sacrifices" reminiscing about the past keeps me sane in 2023. 😊
Farrah was one of those who while being chosen (first for ads and later TV shows) for looks alone, But who proved her "chops" by being a helluva actress.
Well said! I HATE this era specially the zombies walking with their cell phones!!! I watch movies and listen to the music of the 70’s and 80’s, reminiscing about those years like you makes me want to be dead then keep on living the 2000’s.
You would be surprised how film and darkrooms are making a comeback.

Heh. Manufacturers called them Brown, Harvest Gold, and Avocado. Poppy Red was another. I'm surprised they didn't have a fancy name for brown.

As ugly as I used to think those were, I kind of miss them. They remind me of my gramma's house and That 70s Show. Warm and inviting. I can't stand the cold, sterile, soulless, not to mention boring, white, beige, grey, stainless steel, and black stuff people seem to like these days.

I was about 14 yo and on a long road trip with my parents right after dad got a CB radio. He was a long time Ham radio operator since the 1940s, so he tried talking on it the same way he did on his ham rig, and he got nothing but silence.
I asked him if I could try, having been around a friend who knew the lingo...
"This is Susanna Banana, heading left outta Big D on I-20, anybody got their ears on?"
All the sudden, several very friendly truckers responded, hearing a young female voice. They all wanted to know my 20. Dad, said, something like, "Well, I know it's working now" and he shut it off. 😃

Pong, mood rings, bell bottoms, 8 track tapes, macramé hanging planters, beads hanging in interior doorways, clackers, terry cloth shirts, platform shoes, perms, cb radios, disco, etc...
CB Radios were big in the 70s, now only a few use them.
Husband is an OTR trucker and he gets so frustrated that people don't use them nearly as much anymore. (He's 40, btw very old school guy)

Crazies have taken over CB channel 6, dissing each other with illegal 10,000 watt transmitters.
Also, it seems there are lots of "ghetto channels" now. I seem to find at least 3 in many major cities that are just in Punjabi. And they seem to like putting echo effects on a lot of the time. 😵

The original Herbal Essence shampoo was and is, my favorite. I still have a bottle and I use it once in a while just to enjoy the scent. To me, nothing even approaches that aroma.
Oh yes, loved the fragrance and colour of Herbal Essence.

I remember bell bottoms, tube tops, and 8 track tapes. We listened to Helen Reddy and John Denver. I had a mood ring and danced to disco music. We watched The Odd Couple, Welcome Back, Kotter, and All in the Family. An eventful decade, but I was too young to pay attention to that part. 👶

Oh ya tube tops!!! I was in middle school, we had to run for PE. A gal was wearing a tube top and it fell down. After that the school banned their use. What a legend that created for us at 12 years old....
Do you remember Dittos, the pants made by Levi's for women in the 70's? Also, I lived in Southern California and remember when the movie Jaws and Star Wars and Saturday Night Fever came out. Those were the days.
@@Tam_Eiki I was in Jr. High when the Planet of the Apes came out. They showed it in the auditorium to all the kids who sold magazines for some magazine drive or other. We were all shocked at the scantily clothed woman in it and at Charlton Heston yelling damn you at the end! What a bad word! We ( the girls) weren't even allowed to wear pants to school, I think by 9th grade the rules finally changed. Before that we would occasionally have " pants day". Seems crazy thinking of that now! And boys weren't allowed to have long hair! And this was in California! Not so liberal then I guess.

If you'd like to re-experience the 70s, just turn off your air conditioner the next time there's a 100 degree day. Offer to pay twice what you pay for everything to experience the double inflation. And of course, walk into the most dangerous neighborhood in your area to experience the all-time high crime rates.
I forgot all about whacky packs until you showcased them in the vid. Wow, brought back memories. I was a kid in the 70's. We bought the trading cards, gum balls and whistle suckers. It was a sucker with holes in it. You played it like a instrument. One of many fad candies that are long gone. I never had a new bike. Mine was made of scrape dad got from the junk yard. The chain was open, and I would get my bell bottoms caught in the chain. Corduroy was big in the 70's. To this day I hate bell bottoms and corduroy with a passion. We also wore a lot of strips in the 70's. Kids clothes was something else.
My younger brothers were huge Wacky Pack fans & my brother had a corduroy sport jacket!
Me and my brother had t-shirts that my mom found at K-Mart, well, needless to say me and, my brother wore the t-shirts out because, they definitely were our favorites!I Which the shirt had several on the front and back! One of the shirts, I liked wearing had Dr. Popper on the front as one of the packs, that was my favorite since, I liked Dr.Pepper!

I owed a new Schwinn Cotton Picker it was all white and very well made. In 1979 I purchased a used black 1978 Trans Am after seeing the Smoky and the Bandit movie it only had 5000 miles on it. I had a Schwinn Apple Peeler, 5 speed, man that thing was fine. In 1979 I bought a 1977 Trans Am, it was black with a gold eagle, t-tops with red velour interior. Did you buy the tinted plexiglass headlight covers?

They call them “booty shorts” now but this spring and summer they are back in style for boys. I’ve seen kids wearing them lately. They will still look ridiculous for adults if it catches on.

Great times to grow up. No cell phones, computers, nor video game consoles. We played baseball from dawn till dusk during summer recess. You knew it was time to head home when the street lights came on. You knew all your neighbors.

Hi Scott, well certainly we have conveniences today that we didn't have back then... Then again, we've also "bred" a generation with zero attention span and poor social skills when it comes to forging meaningful friendships as opposed to fast food "friends" via "social" media... Just go out in public and watch whole families addicted to their screens.
Agreed, there are great advantages to being able to access a "world" at our fingertips, and connect w/people half way around the world, but as with most things, it's a double edged sword, and I'm not so sure we're not devolving in some key ways.
They were certainly Computers and Game Consoles, and if you did own a Computer you were a super geek, and if you owned a console you were the most popular kid on the street.
You brought tears to my eyes. Remembering all the good things we used to play with and programs we'd watch. Those were the days !
In 1970 I was 13 and life consisted of going to school, hanging out if your friends, listening to music and wondering if the new girl across the street has noticed you yet. My how life has changed, I want to be 13 again.

The tube socks shown here are half as high as most of us had. Sweat bands on the wrists were also a needed accessory.
At 4:40 the shifter on those bikes were moved up onto the handlebars later, as many boys had damaged their private parts on them during "wipe outs"
HR PuffinStuf was basically a Saturday morning kids show that was written by people on acid.
And the Trans Am cars were the bomb. Until the T-tops got stolen. And again. And again.

@@karinwolf3645 You know, it's funny, I only just recently bought a pack of Goody combs at Walmart. I think they were on the clearance rack and I sort of just tossed them into my cart. I think my subconscious mind was feeling nostalgic for a better time.
@Just Me OMG, yes! Regrettably, I never did get one of those. I remember a few of my classmates getting one for Christmas, maybe 1978 or 1979, and feeling a little green. Weren't they in pastel colors, like pink, baby blue, and a pale yellow? Were you the proud owner of one?

Now a days it's a cell phone in a back pocket instead of a super comb. First time I saw a cell phone in a young woman's back pocket I had an immediate flashback to the comb.

Having grown up in this era, it's somewhat surprising to realize how truly unique--and somewhat weird--it was. That said, you are absolutely correct that anything Sid & Marty Kroft produced was memorable. Now, it seems kind of silly to modern eyes. But to me as a kid, each week's episode was something to look forward to. Sure, we knew the family in "Land of the Lost" would never make it back to 1970's America, but just hoping they might was what made viewing it an adventure to me as a kid. Thanks for sharing this, it was most enjoyable. :)
One of the things I think about is that there wasn’t really all that much security at places. Instead of a bunch of guys in uniforms, a lot of times there would just be some teenagers hired (smaller concerts, sporting events, fairs and circuses, etc).
Me and, my brother watched Land of The Lost and, H and, R Puff n’ Stuff both!

I was hooked on the Bugs Bunny and Road Runner Show. The Boogaloo's Puff N Stuff. I remember always watching at night Bah Bah Black Sheep, BJ And The Bear, Movin On. I remember all the trucker stuff. My dad's first Fuzz Buster was big as a Amazon box LOL

In 5th grade, every day the teachers would devote and hour to teaching us the metric system. There was a whole array of physical teaching aids for us to use and interact with. This went on the whole semester. When I graduated to 6th grade, I heard nothing more about the metric system, and we only used imperial. So much for that.
The small scarf tied at the neck, Love Is comics and little books, elephant leg jeans, hip huggers jeans, body suit shirts that wouldn't ride up in hip huggers or hot pants, culottes- a split skirt, wigs, wiglets, and cascades.
Yes! And puka necklaces, cameo "choker" necklaces, "painters pants", desert boots, Dr. Scholls sandals, colored hair yarn (to tie up our "top ponies" and create our very own "Karen Valentine, Room 222 look"), "sizzler" (micro-mini) dresses, granny dresses (floor-length, with the ruffled necks, sleeves and bottoms), platforms, crocheted vests, glitter socks and skinny belts (Bowie-inspired), short, furry jackets (worn to HS with our mini-skirts and heeled shoes-no jeans allowed till 1974- Junior year)...where have all the years gone?!
So much of this popped up in the 90s and is here again.
And THANK GOD for the scarves tied around the neck as a fashion statement (circa 1974/75). I wore one for almost 2 weeks to hide a "gigantic" hickey. I was mortified and scared to death that my parents would find out and "kill me"! Lol...yeah...times were sure as heck alot different back then...back when self-respect and respect for your parents meant alot more than it ever could today. By the way, are " hickeys" a " thing" anymore?...Lol...

My mom used to use a super-8 camera to make fun movies with her 4 children. We would write the script, and do the acting, but she would do the filming and edit the films. This made wonderful memories that we all still cherish.

Don't know why either. They always switched tracks in the middle of one of the good songs and switching tracks was the closest to fast forward or rewind you could get.
I loved Sid and Marty Kroft shows. I showed my son some youtube videos of H.R. Pufnstuff a few years ago, he said it was the creepiest thing he's ever seen.
It is pretty creepy looking. I don't remember watching the show in the '70s, but I watched plenty of cartoons.
Even when I was a kid, I thought Sid and Marty Kroft shows were creepy.
I think they smoked some really potent stuff when they created H.R. Pufnstuff.
The Banana Splits and Pufnstuff were my two favorite kids shows back then.
I remember Sigmund the Sea Monster. And if you go back and watch Wonderbug it might look a little creepy.
I don't know why but I miss the past more and more every day.

Everything sucks now
(1) Short shorts for men with that little funny netting inside that was supposed to keep the load from shifting. (2) Aqua-net Hairspray, to keep that perfect wind-blown look. (3) I do miss drive in theaters. (4) One pc denim bell bottom jumpers.
Aquanet was still huge in the 80s. It powered the big hair phenomenon.

It happened to be the same night that some girl thought I had really great hair and touched it. She laughed really hard at me saying I used hair spray and did not skate with me. ☹

I saw "Jaws" in at an outdoor movie theater. My friend's older brother took us. Even to this day I think that's the scariest 🍿 movie I've ever seen. I think it seemed more realistic because we were outdoors. However the older brother was getting annoyed and embarrassed by all our scared screaming!
Great one! I had a 78 blue trans am in high school. Still my favorite car ever. After grade school everyone had to have the schwinn 10 speed. A few other mentions are corduroy pants, converse all star shoes and honda trail bikes.
Feel like we grew up in the same house. My HS boyfriend drove a Firebird, both my brother & I had Schwinn 10 speeds, he a rust colored Continental & I a baby blue Varsity. We also had a Honda QA-50 mini bike. Lol
I was a little young for '70s Trans Am's but I loved them. I grew up in a 'car' neighborhood and used to ride my bike past all the cars and read the name plates off of all the cars: Firebird. Satellite. Road Runner (with the cartoon logo). '340' on the hood of one car. It was a fun time.
Had a red '76 Chevy El Camino, that I collected speeding tickets from most of the local P.D.s. I wore a pony tail to my waist, that idiot, geriatric curmudgeon would offer me a frickin' dollar or two if I'd cut it. I remember corduroys were 'actually' cool to wear. Jocks and socialites listened to the 'softer' progressive rock, while the malcontents and stoners gravitated towards 'harder' blues rock. Socialites pretended to follow the rules, wore more conservative hairdos and went straight to college. Tolerance, fun, joy of life and relationships between people were also abandoned.
There were issues and problems in the 70s. But compared to the insane nonsense of today, it was a comparatively golden era.
The best part of 1970s saturday morning tv was the toy commercials.
It's amazing that going bald and just shaving it all off has been a blessing compared to always worrying about how my hair looked. And I feel younger as I don't have a headfull of grey hair. My older brothers and even me wore winter hats to bed to keep our hair flat as it would just go where it wanted to without. Ah, the ...Good Old Days.
My best friend from high school passed away from breast cancer in January 2018. I temporarily moved to help her in August 2017. She had beautiful, long hair, and it really bothered her that the chemo might affect that. It never did, but it was distressing for her to think about. I already had a receding hairline (used to joke that I had a five head instead of a forehead) so one day I had a local barbershop just go ahead and remove what was left. I have never looked back, and I agree, it saves money. 😂
@@Mickard what a sweet friend you are. Sorry for your loss. I lost one of my best friends to cancer as well. Then I lost my fiancee unexpectedly and then my Dad. All 3 gone in a year and a half.

I remember feeling so scared when my teacher tried to teach the metric system and telling us we needed to learn it because the rest of the world was using it and I didn’t understand it. I had a boyfriend who owned a Trans Am. I miss Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific and the original green Herbal Essence shampoo! I miss Disco and classic rock. I miss bell bottoms…I miss the 70s!!

Don’t forget Body ON Tap, that was supposed to have Beer in the Shampoo and, Short and Sassy! Herbal Essence’s was my favorite , the thick green shampoo, I loved the smell! Well, in the 80s we had moved to Indiana to be near my mom’s family and, well, she decided she would buy me a generic version of it! My whole neck got red and swollen! I had sores on my neck and, my skin on my neck was pealed! I was on all kinds of medication to get it cleared up!
I wish we had switched to the metric system.
@@sonyafox3271 My brothers and I used Prell shampoo that came in the clear "toothpaste tube" and my sister had others like you mentioned. I remember brushing my teeth with Gleem II toothpaste and once in a while got that "sex appeal in a tube" with Ultra Brite. I have a great memory of not such a great memory of breaking out in a horrible rash after using Irish Spring soap. 😊

There was that last image of the shorts for men that also faded and that was "cutoffs" with older jeans! I had one of those Goody combs and did wear it in a back pocket all through junior high to high school! Haha! My older brother who was a jerk about anything new he didn't do when he was my age hassled me all the time! And my oldest brother had a silver Trans Am for at least a couple of years before my nephew was born and then having a car like that became too impractical!
You forgot the tuxedo shirt, a T-shirt printed with the image of the corresponding portions of a full dress tuxedo. One of these can be seen in the original 1976 Carrie movie, worn by one of Tommy Ross's friends while preparing for the prom.
I swear Fez wore one on That 70s Show once...

I remember collecting the wacky packages in the mid seventies. I was about 10 years old then.
6:05 Trans Am, maybe, but I remember Challenger, Barracuda, Javelin, Mustang, and Cougar had their fans as well.
I wanted an Avanti II, maybe a BMW Bavaria or a Citroen-Maserati SM. One of my classmates got a Pantera for graduation.
How could you leave out GTO?
I miss the medal lunch boxes kids now are really missing out I remember putting things in those to get it home to study it (frogs, bugs, flowers, seeds, leaves) man those were the days.
One very-popular item from the '70s that I vividly remember were the platform shoes & boots worn by (mostly) the girls of that era. In fact the 70s were a great era for boot-fashions in general, as they were not only ubiquitous but also of a very distinctive style, with a form-fitting silhouette, and with a huge variety of style-variations & colours, and overall they made a very-significant impression on those of us going through puberty at the time.
The 70s were also the first time that female superheroines first hit the TV airwaves in shows such as "Wonder Woman" with Lynda Carter and "The Bionic Woman" with Lindsey Wagner. And unlike the movies/TV shows of to-day, such programmes of that era were much lighter in tone & had a more fun, enjoyable flavour to them, with none of the grim, downbeat & depressing atmosphere of today's superhero-fare.
AND THOSE PLATFORM SANDALS ARE BACK.
There were more than a few of my high school male schoolmates who wore the platform shoes also. Paired them with the striped or solid bell bottoms and body-hugging button-down shirts. Surprisingly, because it was "the style" back then, we girls thought that more than a few of them were "the cutest". Lol...
Guys didn't wear platform boots where I grew up but they sure did wear platform shoes! It was a short-lived fad for me at least.
I served drinks as a cocktail waitress in those platforms 😮. I was young with good balance lol

And that's just a sample. So my advice? When you know nothing about a topic, better to just keep silent about it rather than make a fool of yourself.
I graduated from high school in 1977 and I can definitely remember being told by teachers in school that the US was going to switch to the metric system and that we needed to learn it. As they say, that didn't age well. I do remember my high school teaching the metric system a little.
Our school taught it in grade school back in the 90s but they didn't teach us how to convert 🤦♀️
Why convert? Just intuit the metric. If the temperature is 15°C, outside, just step outside and figure out whether or not you need a jacket, and if so, how heavy.
And therefore, you'll know how to dress when it's 15 degrees outside.
in canada we did switch. and gas got sold in liters so everyone thought they did that so they could increase the price at the pump without people figuring out the gallon price.
With the Super Comb: THE coolest way to use that was wearing painters pants and sticking the comb in the little side pocket designed for a paintbrush.
70's were the best of times for me when I was in my 20's. Only really bad thing then was the gas shortages/long lines (& ban on Sunday gas purchases) along with the 55 max speed limits.
The oil crisis pretty much ruined the auto-industry. Malaise era cars were awful, otherwise the 70s was a great decade.

Maybe it was only a fad where I grew up in So Cal, but I always wanted a Pukka Shell necklace because it was the cool thing and movie and TV stars wore them.
I still have my pukka shell necklace, and a red branch coral necklace. Both were gifts from my mom in the early to mid 1970s.

Eight millimeter film was 16 mm (all most commercial) cut in half. SuperEight moved the sprocket holes farther apart to get a larger recording.
I remember those because my family used a camera that took this “moving picture” film. We had the screen and projector to. Revere 88 was the name on the projector that was made in the USA in the early 1960s though. These “family movies” were in colour but notoriously silent. And you better watch out because if you paused the film too long it would melt!

We were mad for the Batman 66 tv series bubblegum cards.
I don't remember the wacky packages, must have been gone by 1975 or 6, that's about as far back as I remember. I collected star wars cards.
I loved the Wacky Packs.
Not only the trading cards, but also the stickers.
I always had my 3-ring binders just covered with the stickers.

If you think short athletic trunks started in the 70s, you need to look at photos of basketball players from the 30s, 40s and 50s.
I was in college when Charlie's Angels came out, I would say about 1/3 of the girls on campus had the Farrah look in 1976
A friend of mine got a '78 black Trans Am after Smokey and the Bandit came out.
These shorts do cause recollections in my mind--but it was not until this one, and the mention of the 'super comb' that really jogged my memory in a different way. Something so simple, the handle sticking up out of your back pocket as you went about your day, ah, now that was something that I had in common with ALL of my friends. One of my best friends during my childhood was a boy named Scott. You know the type of boy I'm talking about. Blond hair that was always perfect, blue eyes that sparkled in the sunlight like bits of glass. While you were still short--waiting for your growth spurt--he was already tall and thin. He was good at sports, but most important he could pop a wheelie on his bike and ride it further than anyone else. I had not thought of those combs that Scott was the first among our school to discover and even of Scott for decades. Thanks for the memories.

Fashions are an interesting thing, in hindsight, we're always embarrassed of what we wore, and can't imagine how it became popular. I think every generation suffers this curse. In high school P.E. we had our gym clothes, and they, of course, included short shorts and tube socks. For us, they seemed normal, and not weird in the slightest. For graduation, I wore a leisure suit, and thought I looked pretty snazzy (a word not used enough these days lol). In the 80s women had their shoulder pads and leggings. Men had their pastel Miami Vice look, and parachute pants. Everyone wore tracksuits and headbands. I'm sure kids today will look back on current fashions the same way we do. The opposite is also true. Things we thought were embarrassing to wear would later become fashionable. As a kid, would you have ever thought that wearing ripped jeans would have been anything but humiliating? Wearing clothes with patches were even worse, but these became fashionable later on. The only consistently safe fashion choice seems to be bluejeans and t-shirts. They never seem to go out of style (unless they're acid washed jeans).
No need to wear Jeans and T-Shirts... You can always wear a well tailored suit and never look out of style.
@@herbtube7824 That depends on the suit. Every decade seems to have a different style. 70s suits were hideous polyester leisure suits. Those ties that were the width of tennis rackets were equally ugly.

@birdsfan57 I LOVED flared jeans in the late 90s/early 00s! It was the one clothing item my mother allowed me to choose, mostly because of how difficult it was to find "normal pants." LOL
70s had the best Music hands down, 70s bands are still playing, and still Rocking out in thier late 60s
I remember the Party Wagons -- those full-sized custom conversion vans. This was before they became mere transports for kids. We *finally* got one in the mid 80s, but Dad's thought was to use it for family daytrips, since it was cooler than a station wagon. But at $0.80/gallon, it was expensive to keep on the road.
CB was a great way to find coffee breaks (party). No ID required.
