    Just as people find old tools today I can see someone finding this 100 years from now, giving it a good clean and using it or maybe donating to a museum showing the history of how it was made.
    I'm sure someone will be pretty excited to have one of your balls in their hand. Beautiful colouring and finish.

    Awesome. A radius turner is on my list of thing to make still. Have you given any thought to milling/leaving a small boss on the opposite side to drill and support with a center for the majority of the operation? Then ti could be turned off at the end. I don't know if it would work or not for your set up, but if so, I would think it would cut down on turning time. Whats your thought on that?

    John, it looks like you have a rotary phase converter next to your lathe, did you buy it used? I have a similar situation in my garage workshop needing 3 phase, 60 Hz, 230 V &
    17 Amps to run a .5 HP servo shift hydraulic pump and 7.5 HP main drive motor on my LeBlond Regal lathe. My house only has single phase but I've been able to make 3 phase for my 1.5 HP Bridgeport using a VFD, however they get very expensive in the 5+ HP range. What's the input & output electrical characteristics on your rotary phase converter and what did you pay for it? Cheers Mate!

    Do you disengage the tail-stock quill screw from the handle so that it self feeds when treading with a die? (I know the die wasn't attached to the chuck this time, but what about when it's attached?)

  • @sharpx777
    @sharpx777 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    very nice. Just a suggestion, you should cut a slot at the back end of the adjusting screw of the boring head so you can access it from the top with a flat screwdriver. My first thought was to say to use the hole at the other end so the allen head sits on top but then I noticed it only has a center hole and at one side (mine has center and both sides).

    Really nice job, which is complicated by the 5 or 6 people or more making the various parts to this vice, OK if like you this is the final grind but there’s a lot to think about, well done to you and all. I know in one of the last WIYB’s a person from the UK where I live was the lucky recipient of a box, or to be more correct many individual ones that made up the whole wonderful gift from knowledgeable Engineers and Part time and Professional Machinists. I hope they realise just how much work went into their many separate pieces!
    I have said it before, - I wonder if Keith realised what a many headed snake these WIYB would become, though it spreads the knowledgeable camaraderie of the many people kind enough to make the many parts of maybe even more finished machinists tools with some becoming absolutely indispensable and are for continued use?!
    Thanks for the completed item and for the upload of your work.
    Take care
