  • Honda Acura P1399 Solved Random Cylinder Misfire Detected. This is an in-depth look at the honda Acura J Series V6 engine with a P1399 code as well as P0300 P0301 P0302 P0303 P304 P305 P306 and P1399. At first I thought it was burnt valves but after some research realized it was not a very common problem for these J Series to have burnt valves. A engine needs 3 things to run correctly. Fuel, Compression Spark.
    I check for compression on all 6 cylinders. Normal compression for these engines is 130PSI to 165PSI. All cylinders checked out.
    Checked for spark, with the spark plugs and coil packs attached I pulled the connector to the coil pack and listened for a change in engine RPM, as you pull each connector you can hear the engine fall on it's face a little bit more. Do this for all coil packs until you come to the one that does not make a difference. Once you isolate that coil pack pull up on the coil pack and see if you hear spark. If you hear spark then most likely, it's fuel related.
    I swapped fuel injectors to make sure the dead cylinder moved with the fuel injector and it did.
    The key thing to remember is that you start with a compression test on an engine, you need to know the health of your engine before proceeding forward.

    I most appreciated you using the engine noise or silence as background noise. Being able to hear how my engine should be sounding was great. I’m one of many with trouble understanding speech when there’s background noise. It’s such a distraction! When the music started at the end, most of the video was done anyway. Thank you.

    Code also pops up when you have low valve clearance or a clogged EGR valve .

    • @cer2us
      @cer2us 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Low valve clearance means it's already tight to begin with , so no . In fact I would ever so slightly loosen up and make sure you are using the correct feeler gauges when doing this adjustment . I do recommend that you have a professional do this task for you .

      @chancesmall7026 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@zacharymcmullan707 p1399 can be from many different things you have to narrow it down start with easiest which is air no bad gaskets or vacuum leaks and map sensor/air intake filter is good check for spark if spark plugs coil packs and sensor connectors are all clean and fuses are good check valve clearance to see if you need an adjustment. If so then an adjustment will fix it if not fuel injectors/fuel components is your last resort. Codes aren’t an exact science gotta track it down

    The last time that happened to my 2002 Honda Accord, Just changed the EGR valve and it is still running fine to this day.Those random misfires are caused by EGR or its passages is blocked by carbon or gunk.

      Efren Saclolo hey I have a 1998 Honda Accord lx manual transmission, yesterday my car wouldn’t stay idle when I make a stop, the engine light came on and I got this same code plus a few more indicating a misfire. Do you think replacing the EGR would solve the problem like you did?

      So did you change the egr?

    • @bundysgarage
      @bundysgarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The EGR and fuel injectors are two completely different problems. You have to do some diagnosing to determine which one. The code can come for all kinds of reasons. Bad spark plug, bad coil, bad wires, EGR, bad fuel injectors. If ou have carbon build up issues try using a top tier gasoline and put a can of Berryman’s into the tank with a complete fill every other oil change and that should take care of your carbon issue.

    What years had bad injectors ? Why does a misfire in one cylinder cause a 1399 ?

    • @bundysgarage
      @bundysgarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Any vehicle can have issues with with fuel injectors, any year range as well. The reason 1399 pops up is because the engine knock sensor cannot determine which specific cylinder is misfiring, so it just throws up a random misfire. Just like all parts they do wear out and they do go bad, but Honda has some of the best fuel injectors out there, they don't fail all to often but they do fail.

      @@bundysgarage yeah, I know honda has really good injectors. The only honda injector I ever replaced was on a '92 integra LS. But I have seen others replace injectors on '86 to '89 Accords. But extremely infrequently. I worked at Honda from '97 to '00
      How did you narrow it down to #6 injector ? Can't really pull off the injector connectors with the engine running, and the manifold has to come off to get to the injector connectors; I believe ?

    • @lothianmcadam1
      @lothianmcadam1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you have the tools and the time, and you can stay organized and focused on the task, swapping out the fuel injectors isn't particularly difficult. This presumes you're t'shootong a P1399. That code may also be caused by fouled plugs or valve clearance that's out of range
      . Removing and cleaning carbon soot from plugs is relatively easy. But doing a valve adjustment is not for the faint of heart.

    I have a 4cyl accord with the P1399 along with a P0300 , P0301 etc, all cylinders measured around 180psi COLD except for cylinder #3 which is at 0 psi. Could this be anything besides a bad valve? Maybe a bad injector seal? Can a slipped timing belt possibly cause this 0psi ? I am just hoping for a miracle because I don't feel like taking out the head.

    • @bundysgarage
      @bundysgarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it was a bad injector. Honda / Acura injectors don’t fail very often but they can and in this case it was a bad injector. If it’s stuck open dumping fuel your check engine light will be flashing. If it’s stick closed and no fuel is coming out then you will have a random cylinder misfire and or multiple cylinder misfires.

    • @bundysgarage
      @bundysgarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Here what you need to do to fix it: follow the instructions exactly.
      You have to change 3 sensors, 40 bucks on Rockauto.com. You have to change the engine coolant temp sensor (19MM), the air intake temp sensor (19MM) and the fan (thermo switch) (it controls the fans behind the radiator) (24MM or 15/16 deep socket) sensor that sits in the thermostat housing. The air intake sensor is on the intake manifold on the back edge towards the drivers side. Here are the Honda / Acura park numbers. Just take those and plug them into the search bar on Rockauto.com. Fixed the problem for me, period. 37870-PK2-015. 37880-P0A-A02. and 37760-P00-004. Just make sure you don’t switch the air and coolant sensors when you install them. They look identical and will fit both locations. Please let me know if this fixes your problem. If you have any more issues email me.
