When I was a kid I thought Care Bears were part of the Star Wars universe because I was terrified of Ewoks and the only way my mom could calm me down was by saying that Ewoks were cousins to the Care Bears, who just lived on another planet.
I wish I had thought this because it’s awesome, but also because I conversely didn’t understand what carebears were supposed to be (only having the toys), and found THEM a little disturbing 🤣

Star Wars is an exercise in realizing that beloved and respected media franchises are all silly to their core and that being silly to their core is no reason for anyone to look down on any form of media just for that alone. Also spinning with your light saber to fly is stupid.
You should check out some of the comics they published before Empire! They're collected in an omnibus called "Wild Space". It's an older book, not sure how much it'd cost to buy a copy these days. Worth checking out if you can find it though.
There are some good ideas and some absolutely atrocious ones. However, one thing that is for sure is that Episode VII, Episode VIII, and Episode IX and consequently anything that is connected to them should be completely wiped from canon and they should start again from scratch. This time with a team of filmmakers who are actually competent and, you know, good at creating films and who actually love & care about Star Wars and have a deep understanding & appreciation of the lore. And most importantly, ACTUALLY MAP OUT A COHERENT, COHESIVE PLAN FOR THE STORY THAT IS GOING TO BE TOLD OVER THE COURSE OF EPISODES VII, VIII, AND IX INSTEAD OF FUCKING FLY BY THE SEAT OF THEIR PANTS AND TACKLE EACH FILM WHEN THEY GET TO IT AND CONSEQUENTLY TELL A STORY THAT IS WILDLY INCONSISTENT IN EVERY WAY, ESPECIALLY TONE, CONTRADICTING ITSELF AT EVERY TURN BECAUSE THE PERSON WHO MADE VIII HAD A WILDLY DIFFERENT VISION FOR THE STORY & THE STAR WARS UNIVERSE THAN THE GUY WHO MADE VII DID AND THEN SAID GUY WHO MADE VII CAME BACK FOR IX AND BASICALLY INVALIDATED EVERYTHING VIII DID! VII: Hey here's all the things that matter and are important, the story is going in this direction VIII: Actually, none of those things matter and none of them are even remotely important. THESE things are important and also the story is actually going in this, completely different, direction now. IX: Actually, all those things actually ARE important and actually DO matter and all the things that were undone have now been redone and all those things that were said to be important instead actually don't matter at all and the story is actually going back in the direction it was originally going in now. Audience: Absolutely what the FUCK is even going on here?! Why is this the most schizophrenic film trilogy ever made?! But at least Episode VIII had some very interesting and original ideas and actually tried to expand the universe and do new things that hadn't been done before, instead of VII and IX, which were just boring & safe retreads of the previous films that didn't attempt to do anything new and just followed the same general outline of IV, V, & VI.

Also, Finn is not "a black clone soldier." He is a black Stormtrooper. None of the Stormtroopers are clones. The clones of The Clone Army were phased out of the Galactic Military pretty much immediately after the end of The Clone Wars, the fall of The Republic, and the creation of The Empire. Which is why Finn looks like Finn and not Jango/Boba Fett.
I do love the Bea Arthur scenes in the holiday special, imagine that as a TV show? Her character running a bar on Tatooine, as a post for rebels to meet up, hide out, or for refugees etc, while sorting out local disturbances

Surprised, Caravan of Courage and Battle for Endor didn't get a mention. I was shown them as a kid and when I grew up I managed to convince myself that the whole thing was something I must have made up.
I rewatched both in one sitting with some friends only recently, and holey shit is Battle for Endor bad... It has literal magic and a meth addicted rabit, and Wilford Brimley is in it as not Santa.
I think he didn't mention the is cuz they are actually more well known than u might think. They were TV films over here, but were released in theaters overseas, with gorgeous posters worthy of the normal Star Wars movies. And the VHS tapes were well circulated. So I dont think they need to be mentioned here. Quinton probably doesn't consider them "forgotten".

I'm really glad to see someone who has something positive and genuine to say about Star Wars, both the recent and old stuff. It's a nice break from the clickbait "Star Wars is ruined" videos. I've spent decades religiously following the expanded universe and I always loved seeing the older, pre-prequel media reincorporated into the later canon.
Splinter of the Mind's Eye has a second claim to fame in the modern Star Wars canon with Mimban, the mist-shrouded planet the story takes place on. It features prominently in the movie Solo as the world the Imperial ground battle scene takes place, where Han first meets Beckett. Droids is a guilty pleasure of mine. It may be corny as hell and hobbled by executive meddling, but it's got *heart,* y'know?
Aww man I was looking forward to seeing that clip from battle for Endor where a sorceress uses her magic ring to turn into a raven and fly away. There's definitely enough weird stuff from the early years for a part two to this.
There was one year that my dad got us the Ewoks series on DVD when Clone Wars was on a break between seasons, because my brothers and I would just go apeshit without any Star Wars TV show to watch. I cannot emphasize how much I *hated* Ewoks. Not only did it not have Ahsoka in it, it didn't have ANYONE in it. As a very devout tomboy, I was thoroughly offended by being made to watch what was basically just Care Bears calling itself Star Wars. When I was nine I drew Wicket being crucified like Jesus Christ.
Now that I think about it, they are called the Rebel "Aliance" so maybe there where originally 17 or more small groups of people that hated the Empire and started individual rebelions... You know what? That's my headcanon now, every proto-rebel group that appeared through the old Expanded Universe and the new spin-off eventually came together, sung "cumbaya", wrote an oficial manifiesto while hungover and that's how the Rebel Aliance was born
No headcanon needed, Star Wars Rebels shows that this is pretty much exactly How the Alliance was formed; a bunch of disparate rebel cells coming together to fight the Empire.

I remember watching the scene with the fairies burning the trees late at night, right before bed, with all the lights off and just listening to the static hiss of my old boxy tv. Ewoks, and Droids, are sadly forgotten shows which truly deserve more recognition. To me they were my first steps into the wider world of Star Wars, and helped sparked my imagination with their wonderful animation. I'm glad to know that these series aren't just left to rot somewhere in the wastebin of media.
32:45 - I sold a Ewoks animation cell of just Wicket's hand and spear for like $30 on Ebay like 15 or so years ago. Lucasfilm Fanclub in the 80's used to give out animation cells one of the years that you renewed your fanclub subscription.

I remember getting Ewoks on VHS from the library and watching it about once a year. The clips you showed hit me hard man, I remember all the voices and lines for something I haven't seen in over a decade.
I 1000% relate to Ewoks being the perfect show to fall asleep to. In fact when I was a kid and had it on VHS, it would be in the rotation of things I would watch before going to bed.

Watching this video around 1 year later and Disney did what he predicted. Droids, Ewoks, The 2D Clone Wars cartoon, the animated segment from the holiday special and I think the live action Ewoks movies are now all on Disney +
I genuinely love the Holiday Special. I jokingly put it on for my family to watch one Christmas and I ended up becoming incredibly invested in it, and it reinvigorated some love for Star Wars for me. Now that the Mandalorian seems to be linked to it, I am so excited to watch it now!

That Ewok animated cell is sooooo cool! I would love to have something...anything that was actually connected to appearing on a Star Wars media (except Ep 7,8,9). Like Han Solo's blaster would be way way out of the realm of reality. But like something obscure. Maybe the communicator the snout nosed spy hax when he snitched to the Storm Troopers where the Millennium Falcon was in ep 1. What you have is better than a prop. It is like having a part of the film originally shot to capture everything. I would frame that behind some special uv protectant glass and hang it at home.
I swear I had a home video of the Ewok cartoon when I was a kid, it must have been something my mom recorded off the tv then? I had no idea it was Star Wars related, it was just a weird fantasy teddy bear cartoon to me, but I absolutely loved it! I loved the weird creatures in it, they definitely screamed more “weird fantasy” than “science fantasy” and they felt really unique, unlike anything else I’ve seen in fantasy, I loved it.

I recently saw clips from _Star Wars Detours_ during a vinescauce stream-someone sent Vinny a screenshot of a stumpy, THICC Vader and a TH-cam link. I oddly have possible repressed memories of commercials for that show, but the run was so short that I hardly committed it to memory.
I remember reading those Galaxy of Fear books in my schools library in like 4th grade. Might just be the nostalgia talking but i still fondly remember those as my favorite part of the star wars EU
Lucas mentioned to the knowledge of fans, that he intended there to b 9 films, around '82. . that the 2nd three would take place B4 the 1st 3, /the 3rd set of 3 would happen after... exactly as happened. It was in newspapers.
The Mandalorian has lots of homages to the (let's say) not-so-praised moments of Star Wars history. In the sixth episode a character even makes an impresion of a gungan
Side note- i think the fairy species from ewoks is actually a move you can use in the game star wars battlefront 2, in which the ewoks throw a pouch at them which can harm enemies, so I think that's canon, and in my eyes that means that droids is canon, therefore it means ITS POSSIBLE TO JUMP INTO LIGHTSPEED BACKWARDS AND NO ONE FUCKING DOES IT
Ohhhh the nostalgia! I remember finding a VHS tape at Blockbuster Video that included episodes of Droids and Ewoks when I was about 10. My Mom let me rent it and I probably watched it about 4 or 5 times before I had to return it. Ewoks was more memorable to me for some reason despite it being weird even to my 10 year old mind. I liked it a lot at the time. Thanks for the retrospective.
As bad as the EU could get sometimes, I always thought having continuity for the canon was really cool. It was different, especially for the more kid-friendly things. I can't wait to revisit some of this again.

Surprised, Caravan of Courage and Battle for Endor didn't get a mention. I was shown them as a kid and when I grew up I managed to convince myself that the whole thing was something I must have made up.
I rewatched both in one sitting with some friends only recently, and holey shit is Battle for Endor bad... It has literal magic and a meth addicted rabit, and Wilford Brimley is in it as not Santa.
I think he didn't mention the is cuz they are actually more well known than u might think. They were TV films over here, but were released in theaters overseas, with gorgeous posters worthy of the normal Star Wars movies. And the VHS tapes were well circulated. So I dont think they need to be mentioned here. Quinton probably doesn't consider them "forgotten".

There was one year that my dad got us the Ewoks series on DVD when Clone Wars was on a break between seasons, because my brothers and I would just go apeshit without any Star Wars TV show to watch.
I cannot emphasize how much I *hated* Ewoks. Not only did it not have Ahsoka in it, it didn't have ANYONE in it. As a very devout tomboy, I was thoroughly offended by being made to watch what was basically just Care Bears calling itself Star Wars. When I was nine I drew Wicket being crucified like Jesus Christ.

Now that I think about it, they are called the Rebel "Aliance" so maybe there where originally 17 or more small groups of people that hated the Empire and started individual rebelions... You know what? That's my headcanon now, every proto-rebel group that appeared through the old Expanded Universe and the new spin-off eventually came together, sung "cumbaya", wrote an oficial manifiesto while hungover and that's how the Rebel Aliance was born

I remember watching the scene with the fairies burning the trees late at night, right before bed, with all the lights off and just listening to the static hiss of my old boxy tv.
Ewoks, and Droids, are sadly forgotten shows which truly deserve more recognition. To me they were my first steps into the wider world of Star Wars, and helped sparked my imagination with their wonderful animation.
I'm glad to know that these series aren't just left to rot somewhere in the wastebin of media.
32:45 - I sold a Ewoks animation cell of just Wicket's hand and spear for like $30 on Ebay like 15 or so years ago. Lucasfilm Fanclub in the 80's used to give out animation cells one of the years that you renewed your fanclub subscription.

No. He's definitely just a different member of a four-armed race who runs a space '50s diner. For some reason. It must have been something George Lucas scribbled down while coming up with Star Wars ideas and used it twice.

I remember getting Ewoks on VHS from the library and watching it about once a year. The clips you showed hit me hard man, I remember all the voices and lines for something I haven't seen in over a decade.
I 1000% relate to Ewoks being the perfect show to fall asleep to. In fact when I was a kid and had it on VHS, it would be in the rotation of things I would watch before going to bed.
There was also a Star Wars radio program .John Lithgow played Yoda.

Watching this video around 1 year later and Disney did what he predicted. Droids, Ewoks, The 2D Clone Wars cartoon, the animated segment from the holiday special and I think the live action Ewoks movies are now all on Disney +
I genuinely love the Holiday Special. I jokingly put it on for my family to watch one Christmas and I ended up becoming incredibly invested in it, and it reinvigorated some love for Star Wars for me. Now that the Mandalorian seems to be linked to it, I am so excited to watch it now!

That Ewok animated cell is sooooo cool! I would love to have something...anything that was actually connected to appearing on a Star Wars media (except Ep 7,8,9). Like Han Solo's blaster would be way way out of the realm of reality. But like something obscure. Maybe the communicator the snout nosed spy hax when he snitched to the Storm Troopers where the Millennium Falcon was in ep 1.
What you have is better than a prop. It is like having a part of the film originally shot to capture everything. I would frame that behind some special uv protectant glass and hang it at home.

I swear I had a home video of the Ewok cartoon when I was a kid, it must have been something my mom recorded off the tv then? I had no idea it was Star Wars related, it was just a weird fantasy teddy bear cartoon to me, but I absolutely loved it! I loved the weird creatures in it, they definitely screamed more “weird fantasy” than “science fantasy” and they felt really unique, unlike anything else I’ve seen in fantasy, I loved it.

I recently saw clips from _Star Wars Detours_ during a vinescauce stream-someone sent Vinny a screenshot of a stumpy, THICC Vader and a TH-cam link. I oddly have possible repressed memories of commercials for that show, but the run was so short that I hardly committed it to memory.
I remember reading those Galaxy of Fear books in my schools library in like 4th grade. Might just be the nostalgia talking but i still fondly remember those as my favorite part of the star wars EU

That Luke line around the eight minute mark made me quite literally laugh like Palpatine in real life.
Side note- i think the fairy species from ewoks is actually a move you can use in the game star wars battlefront 2, in which the ewoks throw a pouch at them which can harm enemies, so I think that's canon, and in my eyes that means that droids is canon, therefore it means ITS POSSIBLE TO JUMP INTO LIGHTSPEED BACKWARDS AND NO ONE FUCKING DOES IT
Ohhhh the nostalgia! I remember finding a VHS tape at Blockbuster Video that included episodes of Droids and Ewoks when I was about 10. My Mom let me rent it and I probably watched it about 4 or 5 times before I had to return it. Ewoks was more memorable to me for some reason despite it being weird even to my 10 year old mind. I liked it a lot at the time. Thanks for the retrospective.
As bad as the EU could get sometimes, I always thought having continuity for the canon was really cool. It was different, especially for the more kid-friendly things. I can't wait to revisit some of this again.
