    What do you do if you don’t have a balcony or yard to hang the futon? Asking because my apartment building doesn’t and I want to try a futon.

    I live in New Orleans, and I setup an area in the backyard with a CLEAN pallet to let my futon bask in the sun all day!

    I know people in Melbourne who have a germicidal UV lamp set up for winters. They just have to run the cord to another room and make sure they aren't looking at the lamp

    What do I do if the humidity is worse outside than inside? Do I let it air out inside? Or maybe the humidity will lower later in the day. I am also getting a dehumidifier for the inside.

      Dehumidifiers help a lot! They're only ¥100 from Daiso or similar stores. I also have special padding I buy during winter to go around the windows, because the condensation gets quiet bad.
      Air con is pretty much necessary during the worst of summer, though I was lucky and had not very humid summers so far. Though I'm from Australia originally and my home city Brisbane gets fairly humid.

      As long as you regularly clean and air your futon it shouldn't be an issue. There are special futon cleaning sprays you can get from either home depot or Daiso.
      Bugs usually don't enter, but there is some risk if you have tatami floors. Tatami needs a lot of special care, to prevent bugs.

    • @adeca5052
      @adeca5052 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Super Sid Japan thank you! So do you recommend that I get the coconut coil instead of the tatami mat?

    • @supersidjapan2267
      @supersidjapan2267  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@adeca5052 Tatami is very comfortable but very high maintenance. It must be swept regularly with a special broom or wipes to help keep it oiled. Also once a year I woukd recommend to use the special spray (ダニアース) that kills the bugs in the Tatami , there's also prevention spray called 虫除け or prevention air freshener called ダニよけハーブ. Futon on tatami is a perfect place for mites to live, so keep this place clean and dry. I would recommend to pack up futon daily if on tatami. There's also special electric blanket setting you can use in winter to help keep the mites off, usually will say denki moufu, 電気毛布. There were many videos about how to maintain tatami.
      I'm not sure what coconut coil is?

      Sorry for late reply I didn't get a notification T.T I got mine from Nitori, honestly I love their products. I recommend spending a little more on a futon as the really cheap ones are too thin, unless you have tatami flooring.

    How long do you leave it out in the sun?

    • @supersidjapan2267
      @supersidjapan2267  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I usually leave the whole day but 2 hours of direct sunlight is usually enough to kill any nasty bacteria in your futon.

    Wouldn’t a ,stress protector help prevent moisture from hitting into the futon to prevent mold?

    • @supersidjapan2267
      @supersidjapan2267  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure to be honest, but Japanese homes get very humid inside I would recommend do this as often as is practical even with a protector.

  • @gloriathomas2188

    I've been thinking of buying a tall stand used for making those balloon/curtain decoration for photos. But the weight capacity is around 15 lbs. I think that's too light. My balcony has a metal fence that doesn't have a horizontal rod so I'm afraid my futon would puncture or the shape would get worn out..
