The reason why scoot is so cheap is because on the ground, they don’t sign up for a lot of soft services that other carriers do, like cabin cleaning between flights, refuelling at outstations, lavatory servicing etc. All of this combined allows them to spend less time on the ground and get quicker turnarounds, reducing airport fees in the process. Then with their baggage rules, most flying with them would only have carry-on, which lessens the plane’s take off weight and allows them to consume less fuel. A lot of their flights also have less than favourable take-off and landing slots at both the departure and destination airport, which means that airport managers can offer them better rates than planes flying at regular, sociable hours.

Lol at the “no outside food and drinks on the flight”, really reflects the Singapore culture where you can’t have outside food and drinks at any food establishment
8:20 haha if that were the case, im sure we'd be rightfully indignant 😂 but just to be clear, im pretty sure it is to mitigate time/distance delay between departing aircrafts due to wake turbulence, which is regulated. simply put, if a bigger aircraft takes off ahead of a smaller aircraft waiting to take off, since that bigger aircraft produces a bigger wake turbulence, it will pose a safety risk to the smaller aircraft if the smaller aircraft takes off into it as doing this can upset the smaller aircraft and cause an incident. Hence, if the bigger aircraft goes first before the smaller aircraft, there will be a longer time/distance delay before the smaller aircraft can depart safely. By letting the smaller aircraft go first, it produces lesser wake turbulence, which has a lower impact on the bigger aircraft, thus, the bigger aircraft behind, doesnt need to wait as long and can depart after a reduced time/distance delay This reduces the overall delay. To everyone, feel free to correct me in any way if you think I've misunderstood or said anything wrongly!

1: Technically there are restrictions and they could check size and weight. After a flight with them from SIN to TPE, I also thought they were OK-ish but weird (charging S$ 40 extra to sit in a seat with a head rest was a new one to me) but then I was forced to fly on them on their longest flight (after Turkish & United couldn't agree on the luggage allowance of my biz mileage ticket - 0 or 40 kgs 😭 and I had to return home from the airport for the 1st time in my life) and it was an absolute 14 hours nightmare. Good video. I’ve not flown with Scoot but I did with their predecessor (forgotten the name) and with Singapore. I agree with your conclusions re. budget airlines: if you want more than they’re offering then you need to fly full-service. I can do budget airlines for short flights (two hours or so) but not much longer. I had a bad couple of flights with Ryanair a few years ago, simply because the seat was so uncomfortable for the four+ hours of the flight (UK to Crete & back). But shorter flights with them were fine.
