      Then again, Cameron gave some pretty obvious clues earlier-Arnold doesn’t actually kill anyone at the bar and playing “Bad to the Bone” as he walks outside was a big hint.

    Just my cents:
    Arnie was a huge star who played action hero good guys.
    All the hype and trailers back then practically spoilt it that Arnie was the good guy.
    Back then plenty of people hadn't seen Terminator 1. It was still much a niche/underground movie, at least here in Germany/Europe.
    Some probably weren't aware that he had even played a bad guy.
    This was made 32 years ago! 😮

    • @jessecortez9449
      @jessecortez9449 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      To be fair, trailers are made by a completely separate company than the studio.
      I suppose the difference between movie production and movie marketing are big enough to necessitate separate work. Sometimes the director can have some input but apparently it's rather rare.
      And the "Spoiler Free" awareness we have today wasn't nearly as prominent back then. The concern for spoilers has really ramped up the last two decades or so. An example; a lot of subscribers to reaction channels get super anxious of the teaser trailer at the end of Back to the Future part 2 and try to make them stop the movie at the "To Be Concluded..." despite the original movie theater audience saw it and it kept them engaged in the trilogy.
      Yeah, the first Terminator was rather niche and I'd bet few people tried to watch the first one before going to the sequel; they just went cause it seemed like they'd enjoy it.

    • @mickesmanymovies
      @mickesmanymovies 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don't know how things were in other countries back then, but where I live, back in those days, you rarely saw movie trailers on tv. So in order to see a trailer for T2 you would have to go to the cinema - and then MAYBE there'd be a trailer for it.
      I had not seen a single trailer for this when it opened in theatres. So I walked in fresh faced (plus I had seen The Terminator several times), and as far as I knew, Arnold was the bad guy. Right up until this scene.

    In India we have intermissions/intervals for movies. I still remember very vividly the look of sheer shock and amazement on the faces of the audience, everyone in the theatre was silent for a few seconds as soon as the interval happened, nobody was prepared for what they just witnessed. To me and I believe for many the greatest action movie of all time. Terminator 2 is the golden standard that every other action movie gets judged on. Also Linda Hamilton should've won the Oscar for best actress, the fact that she wasn't even nominated speaks volume about how far up their own asses the Academy jury really is, always looking down upon commercially successful movies, yes exceptions have been made like in the case of Titanic.

    Robert Patrick initially kept catching up to John's bike, so he had to hold back when he was running. Also, he had to train to fire a pistol without blinking and squinting.

    I always wondered what people were thinking by spoiling this twist in the trailers. Most people probably assume it was some studio suit who did it without James Cameron's knowledge, but in fact, from what I've read, Cameron himself worked on the promotion for the film and signed off on the trailer that revealed it. Apparently, he felt that revealing early on that Arnold (a bankable star at this point) was now the hero would put more butts in seats.

    There's just this one small mistake in Terminator 2... If you look closely, when the truck falls off the bridge the windshield falls out, 2 seconds later the windshield is back. But with this successful film you can ignore it. And by the way, T-1000 (Robert Patrick) is my favorite. When he shoots Arnold with the gun without blinking his eyes. 😎 i love it, just a 👌 scene.

      If you see these movies without the context of knowing he was a huge star who always played the good guy after T1, nor seen any of the trailers, then it’s possible. Although the biker bar scene gave clues that it would be different this time (no killing, “Bad to the Bone”) so we can criticize them not picking that up.

      To be fair, reaction channels usually are folks that were never cinephiles before or otherwise engaged in the Hollywood culture.
      Remember, you're watching a channel that collects from multiple channels. You're layers deep in the cinema ocean when they are still floating around in the kiddie pool.

    I am so, so, so happy for - and more than a little bit jealous of - all of you for experiencing this plot twist the way in which it was intended! Unfortunately, back when this movie was released, enough spoiler material leaked out - including a magazine article published during the movie's production, and several TV commercials - that I knew about it before I ever went into the theater. Even though this is one of my all-time favorite movies, I still feel like I missed out a little bit. I hope you don't mind me living vicariously through all of you!

    Terminator 2 has cemented the Winchester Model 1887 as one of the coolest shotguns in history.
    I'll also take this chance to say that the T-800 model is the greatest model of Terminator Skynet ever produced. It's been able to outsmart or outfight every other Terminator model sent against it. Obviously this is at least partly because for whatever reason, whenever Arnold plays a Terminator, it's as a T-800.

    Fun tidbit: Robert Patrick (T-1000) actually trained himself to not react to the gunfire, ahich is why you don't see him blink AND he had done A LOT of running to train fornthis movie. So much so, that he could catch John on the bike. He had to run slower to make it look like he was barely keeping up.

    I love getting to see people react to this twist the way it was intended--for you to have T1 and not know Arnie was the good guy this time. The fact they made the friendlier looking T1000 dress as a cop as well makes it seem like he'll be the hero protecting John only for the T800 to be the hero is probably lost on today's audiences where there's even more distrust in cops, though.

    I know way too much about this movie as its my favorite: the reasons the shoots in the hallway look real is bc they are...the sfx department made squibs for the t1000 to simulate shots. Robert patrick (the t1000) trained so hard for this movie to run fast and run hard without breathing OR blinking that they had to reshoot the parking scene a few times bc ROBERT KEPT CATCHING UP TO THE TRUCK DRIVING JOHN! ...the truck driver messed up and really hit his head on the road and the stunt coordinator wanted him to redo it THROUGH his concussion. Arnold said they had to make a special 1887 with a widen lever to accommodate the single handed reloads. He almost broke his hand once bc they gave him the wrong one. Lastly, when arnie puts the shotgun away, fhere are bloopers where he kept hitting john conner bc he was trying to do it without looking and it hurt A LOT 😅
