Art, Valur, I really do appreciate your volcano visits. The Covid updates are helpful too. Here in Australia we are far behind everyone else and effectively, almost, completely closed off from the world. We cannot leave, you cannot visit.To know that you are 93% vaccinated but still have Delta is important contextual information for us. Thanks. Art, your camera work is of the highest quality PLUS it is artistic. You have an excellent 'eye' through the lens. This is amongst the best camera work on TH-cam.
What a nice dog. He/She will show you the easiest way home and is always watching for a new direction to travel if needed.

So Good to see you back at the Volcano and going over the latest news. It has changed so much since we first saw it on your newscast. I recently looked back at the March 20th, grapevine episode 86 - “We visited the Volcano in Iceland and it blew our mind… “ Thank You Valur and Art. This whole experience has been such an education, not just about the Volcano but about your Amazing Country, as well. I’m grateful that you allowed all of us to share this journey with you, as this “almost 5 month old Volcano “, continues to grow and change.

Having met you, really completed our fantastic Iceland Experience last 6 days.
Great to see this report on the actual Miradalur lava flow path. Like you describe in the report, at 9 in the evening the lave flow stated again. And believe it or not, from our hotel chamber (which we can recommend) we could actually ( at 2:30) witness the lava eruptions in the crater mouth!!
if the vulcano keeps on growing , the view from the village Grindavik, where we stayed , will / can become even more stunning.

I can just imagine the guy and his bulldozer! What a laugh! It’s good to see you, Valur with Polly and Art behind the camera. Does he ever get a day off? There is some speculation that the volcano may become explosive as its chemistry changes. Have you heard this? I look forward to more.

Tip: Look at the seismographic charts ahead of time to see when it's going to be active. There are multiple streams that have them on 24/7 with live data, so you can just go there to check.
It's very regular, so when you see that it starts, you know that it's going to continue for many hours, and the same when it stops. The duration can vary a bit, but it's pretty easy to predict roughly when it's going to start again.

I have missed you and Polly. The vulcano is actually funny, he wakes up, when I wake up, so I have a cup of coffee and look from Germany what’s going on. Really nice and comfortable. And the vulcano is known as RagNar, it’s a good strong name, short Nar. It’s an islandic name, isn’t it? Thank you and thanks to your drone-pilot. He makes the best views of RagNar.
I believe Rag-Nar is an unofficial name given by volcano visitors after vent 5 became the active vent. It's kind of like how vent 1 was nicknamed "Bob" and two of the others became known as "Northie" and "Southie". Not to say it could not become an official name, but currently just a nickname.
@@lovehawks2814 I know that, and the Islanders are so proud of there speech and where not amused by this name. But RagNar is a good name, maybe they can think of that. And all over the world people would be happy and have a bond to this Vulcano.

@@claudiavonkroge2793 At the beginning of the eruption, one youtuber got the permission to run live stream of the eruption. The nickname of volcano Bob came up. A Hugh group of people joined the live stream, there are also moderators. They called themselves Bob Nation. I forgot the Icelandic spelling of that channel but the youtuber's name is Ragnar. This group started to name all the vents one after another. When the 5th vent (actually there were two, so they named them Nar, Rag not to directly after him but respected him bringing the spectacular eruption views to the world.) The channel also accepted contribution and would donate to the rescue team. So, that's just, unofficial.

Unfortunately the volcano was resting as you filmed but in recent days it has been quite spectacular.
I guess it will not take long until some Icelandic Volcanologist comes up with a name for the volcano. I myself call it "Volcanis" purely so I can say to myself, "I wonder what is happening with Volcanis today. Keep up the great work showing us mother nature at her best. Cheers. Thank you Valur and Art, and let's not forget Polly. Very enjoyable newscast and filming. I had been wondering if there had been many accidents with the rough terrain. In fact I often wonder if anyone would lose their footing and fall down the hill to the lava. It looks easy to stumble, and some of the walkers I have seen don't look very good on their feet.
There was the american tourist who went off from his wife and got injured and a few injuries earlier in the year

What an amazing background for your reporting. Polly is a cute dog and gets around very well on the rocky terrain. I do worry that one of these times someone may fall during their report while walking on rocky hillsides. Beautiful photography of the volcano and the lava.

Judging from that ominous opening shot, it can't be long before something unspeakably destructive comes crawling out of that crater... you know, like a demon, fire giant or an Icelandic bank. Absolutely spectacular drone footage from Art, he is a world-class drone driver. Will we ever get to meet the man behind the camera?
And it's confirmed - get your waterproofs out for September 6th - I'm doing the walking tour, so it will be raining in Reykjavík. Can't wait to meet the pair of you!

LOL! "It's the same volume as before. Only difference is, its not pushing it, all the goddamn time." Perfect way to express the frustration you and many, many others have in trying to figure out its pattern and severity.
I think I've seen it said somewhere that helicopters are being advised not to land on the hill surrounded by the lava (next to the volcano) because of new cracks that have opened up on the slope facing the volcano

First time we've seen you, Valur, in shorts. I guess global warming has allowed this in Iceland. More great (smooth) footage by Art. I don't know how he manages to get smooth shots while also walking over the rocks and uneven landscape.
Saved all videos go back and watch that first little crack and the steam coming up! What a difference now

I'm kinda hoping the volcano keeps going. Maybe becoming a tourist hotspot for many years to come.
I have read that the last volcano forming eruption in this area, about 900 years ago, lasted for 33 years. Happy trails!

Polly being tired is very different from us humans being tired. She has amazing stamina, and may just need five minutes to recover. Long walks = pure bliss

The filming (and reporting) is excellent - it looks as if you are reporting from another planet, such a different environment from the beach scene. Notice the newly developed fissure just at the rim of the lava pool, right "in front" of the main lava tube. It was dormant as the rest of the volcano at this moment, but you could see the glow down in the hole.

Don’t you remember? The people of Grindavik named this eruption 🌋 something like “Beautiful Mountain” about 4 months ago.
I believe it's the lava field they named (Fagradalshraun) not the crater 😍🇮🇸🌋

The so called 'helicopter hill' is shrinking more and more. I read that there are cracks in this hill and that it might not be safe to land there because it is not quite sure what these cracks mean.
Helicopter Hill/Theatre Hill, the first, had Elton the Turbine (& weather instruments, which were removed) now overwhelmed by lava.
It is the first Spectator Hill, now used for helicopter landings, that has the cracks and has just received some extra instrumentation. The saddle overflow cut off its access via Trail A

It's Saturday today and it's Flowing like crazy.
In Poland, we have a cake that looks identical to your volcano. It's called "Murzynek" .
Ingredients: 2 cups of wheat / rye flour, 1 cup sugar / xylitol, 4 teaspoons of sugar with vanilla, 3 tablespoons of cocoa, 2 spoons of baking powder, 1 teaspoon of sugar with lemon peel, 1 cup of oil, 3/4 cup of milk, 3 or 4 eggs, 1 tablespoon of powdered sugar Preparation: Put all ingredients (except for powdered sugar) into a baking mold. Mix thoroughly with a mixer to a homogeneous consistency. Put them on a baking sheet lined with baking paper and put them in oven (180 degrees). Bake for 50 to 70 minutes. Check with a stick when the dough is dry - it will not stick to the stick, pull it out and sprinkle with powdered sugar. Bon Appetit 😉👍

I appreciate what he said about his dog and concerned Americans, but they have a good point when it comes to dog's paws. How dogs are treated, especially professional rescue dogs, the weather and terrain are of great concern. Dogs actually wear booties when the ground is rough or when it is ice because they can not endure undue surfaces and temperatures. It is no longer appreciated to have service animals end up with cracked and bloody paws. It is very hard to walk on these rocks and the editor-in-chief needs to get some hiking booties for his four-legged friend. :)

Looking over the past 6 days the volcano sleeps for approximately 22 hours at a time and then is active for 12-18 hours -so 4 eruptions over the past 6 days.

Although I hate the helicopters ruining your recordings sometimes, I hope you can take one when the volcano is active and get up close for some lava action like the old episodes! Also, welcome back. I hope your vacation was good. :-)
Does the government have jurisdiction on private land in regards to the Lava?
Great video to update us. It would be very helpful if you make reference to the Band C trails, for those familiar with the official map and those of us that visited in the past.

I heard on another channel that cracks were discovered in the viewing hill where the helicopters landed. When I was there mid July and end of July the helicopters didn't land but just flew over. Night time is best since it is only drones in the sky 😀

Pretty soon no one will be able to walk there. Some stupids ruin it for everyone. The rescue people risk their lives for silly people. Rocks are probably a bit hard on her paws. Love your shorts Valur.
If it is against the law to disturb the lava, why is it legal to put up barriers to direct it's flow?

I think the person bulldozing was trying to keep path open because probably wants it more accessible to continue bringing tourists to the area, maybe charges fee to park, though i'm not sure.
The barriers put up are to protect the road which has communications buried under it that will affect Iceland in a big way if don't work because lava on top of them.
Also Grindavik is very close and they need to deflect the lava away from the town site to protect Icelanders.
