'and they removed miranda's eye, another thing we weren't allowed to do for real' amazing. I'm absolutely not a horror fan at all (I get scared at things that aren't even meant to be horror) but I love watching these making of things you do!
The line you tread between making this stuff because you can and respecting the genuine VFX artists is perfect. I love that you’ve taken your homemade/diy ethic into your big budget journey.
This makes me respect you and this movie so much more, I love that you're here on TH-cam like the rest of us, you don't seem to act like or think you're above everyone else and it's videos like these that show that "I can do this too." - This is how an artist works.
This is the most inspirational film making channel I’ve come across ever! For someone who aspires to direct Hollywood films in the future (19 years old now) this helps so much to see a genius break down the steps. So humble and so knowledgable
This is amazing, it's not the marketing crap you get from other behind the scene features. This is a unique down to earth look at a movie. We're getting force fed so much when it comes to movies. but here we just see someone explaining his craft, no unnecessary polishing. Just some dude showing his passion.
Taking the time to explain your entire process is invaluable to students as well as professionals. I am not a filmmaker, just a composer and I find your process riveting. Thank you so much!
I find it mindblowing that even during production, you could still make stuff with Blender and show them the next day. I would imagine that the actual schedule would be more hectic and you wouldn't have time to play around with your favorite VFX programs
I remember seeing the end credits of this movie in theatres with the bible pages and thinking how cool and unique that was, now knowing that David did this himself makes it even cooler
I love that not only do you use Bender and other open source software, you do so many of your own effects shots. Most directors in your position would delegate that. Once again, thank you for sharing this, very inspirational!
I definitely think that you are the most down to earth, normal person director. And it really helps that you came from indie, diy film making. I really love that you've put your own shots into the final film.
Mr.Sandberg, i just want to let you know how much you help me to not give up my passion on filmmaking, even though it´s kind of a hard time for me lately to work on my own, personal movie ideas. The Filmuniversity i´m attending is not a really inspiring environment, but damn, YOU are. Giving us young filmmakers a glimpse of the professional movieworld and how you still manage to keep a touch of this "i´m doing it the with my own stuff in my bedroom" style is really calming me down to a point where i find the strength to say to myself: "It´s all going to be ok. Just hold on."
I'm a Huge fan! I just saw this movie the other night for the first time. It was, in my opinion, one of the best scary movies made to date. The cinematography, directing, acting and all the fields were amazing! Well done! I cant tell you how much you're behind the scenes videos inspire me! When I see you using blender in a blockbuster it just reminds me, you dont have to be a millionare to make great movies!
I recently came upon your short film/feature film work, and it inspired me to try some short horror films for Halloween this year. Thanks for being an inspiration to us no budget grinders out there!
David, I admire all of the homemade VFX shots you did in this film. This movie is INTENSE! I was so scared and I usually don`t get like this during horror movies these days. You managed to make a great film. Great Job David
Just watched this for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m ordering the blue ray! I particularly enjoyed seeing ideas from your short films appear in the feature. Thank you!
I am so stunned! This is a real big movie and you just took the time to make some of the shots at home yourself?!! Wow. Also very happy to see a big Hollywood director being so down to earth to make yt videos and use Blender😍😍
Thank you David! I've seen each one of your YT videos at least several times. Hope to see more videos from you soon on this channel! We MISS YOU David!
These behind the scenes videos are very interesting and cool to see how you make them. Never once did I think that the photos were added later on the computer, but when you talk about control of the reflections it all made sense! Hope you continue to do these behind the scenes on your upcoming movies as well, they are extremely fun and at least makes me a lot more interested in your movies! :D
I actually like these videos a lot more than the extra content I usually see on blu rays. You should include these TH-cam vids about the film as bonus features on the disc too ^_^
You are by far my favorite director at the moment. I loved Annabelle: Creation, and Lights out but Shazam... WAS GREAT! By far my favorite superhero film in all of cinema history. It really touches on each character in such an amazing way and it is unlike any other superhero flick out there. The directing of the actors is great, it is shot in such a beautiful way, action is really good and the comedy is spot on! In my opinion, in future I think you will be the next Spielberg, James Wan, and really show more of what you can do! You are a role model to all professional and DIY/Indie filmmakers out there and I have learned a lot from this channel and your films!
You really went from making these amazing short films to even more brilliant feature lengths, so inspiring. Looking forward to see your vision with Shazam! Also, it's so cool that you do these homemade shots, being a VFX student myself it's nice to see your interest in it and also gives me stuff to learn from. :)
..love your tutorials David.. very informative and entertaining..the added humor makes them a joy to learn.. fantastic! .. you are a great resource David.. please keep them happening..👍👍
This is amazing to see how Hollywood movies are made! Especially amazing ones from The Conjuring Universe! What kind of softwares do many professional movie makers use for Hollywood?
Hi David, congratulations on all the success. I've been a fan of your work for a long time. As I watch this, I can't help but be curious about how you have adapted your process and techniques to satisfy the "professional" stages in the Hollywood system. In particular, I would love to know more about how you deal with highly technical constraints that may be imposed on the post-production stage of the studio movies (resolution, file format, codecs, color space, etc.) and how that affects your use of OSS like Blender. For your own TH-cam videos you can trust your own eye for things like color correction, luminance/chroma values, etc. but I'm sure that just doesn't fly in a big production. Do you render in 4K? What's the resolution of the textures in your camera mappings? Do you use Cycles? How many samples? Would you consider making a short technical video about specific configuration/parameters that are required for a truly professional production? Thanks for sharing all these useful and entertaining insights all these years and I wish you continued success with your art!
I just love the behind the scenes type videos! Great video David! Do you know if you are “allowed” to do something similar for Shazam, it would be cool to see a similar making of series for Shazam just as you did for Annabelle Creations
Hello ponysmasher, I would first of all like to say how impressive and astonishing your cinematic films are. They are creative, suspenseful, and some of the most fun content to watch on TH-cam. And Annabelle: Creation was a cinematic masterpiece, and way better than the first one, which is why I was hoping you would answer a few short questions for a school project I am doing. The project is on horror which is the topic I've chosen because of my inspiration after watching your content and many others. I completely understand if for any reason you say no and I thank you so much just for just taking the time of day to read this "letter" Thank you.
I will now watch this film thanks to this this BTS series. Take note Warner Brothers and other studios/directors. Thank you David for this gift to the community.
Haa! I just saw the movie and I saw that room-to-well scene, and I knew I had seen it somewhere before.. And then it hit me; It was you who made it! Really proud of your work, Ponysmasher! :)
I just watched the movie and I thought that shot of the well was really cool and it looked like a lens artifact and I think it looks fantastic!! Well done and good to see blender and the pocket where used in A movies.
Hey David, I have no idea if you’ll see this but I saw Shazam a few nights ago and I loved it, I don’t want to fangirl too much but I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face, you’ve made something really special. I was wondering there were any homemade shots in Shazam?
These are great videos. I just discovered your channel. Been working a lot of VFX for my own film and this is really inspiring. Thanks for sharing all of this.
Hi, i love your videos and i have a question. i make animationfilms but i really would like to make short films. do you think it is a bad idea to upload the videos on the same channel?
Hello Sir!! you are doing a greate job! congratulations!! i was wondering what are the Aspecs of your computer? Ram, Prosesor, graphics video card, etc... Please? THANKS!
These insights into your detailing and your filmmaking process is not only informative but also inspiring to all of us. However, a very personal suggestion I'd like to mention is to move away from jump scares which is usually mandated by the production houses for the movies to sell and instead move towards a more subtle horror environment building which is chilling not just as a scare but in the frames and the situations as well.
Not all horror needs to revolve around spirits/demons who have infinite possibilities to bend the laws but rather a more grounded one which has certain set of lengths it can go but have the scenes scary in itself by just the looming presence and situational horror.
Ponysmasher: "We digitally removed Miranda Otto's eye, another thing we weren't allowed to do for real"
Miranda Otto: "Wait, what?!"
You're the best David. Props for continuing to document your career in Hollywood with your TH-cam channel. Keep up the great work.
Love your videos

There's a reason why Annabelle Creation was better than the original. You're an inspiration to all of us aspiring filmmakers sir!
David F Sandburg: The best DIY film maker in Hollywood !
Yes he is... He needs to come to Albuquerque New Mexico... (Netflix).
'and they removed miranda's eye, another thing we weren't allowed to do for real'
amazing. I'm absolutely not a horror fan at all (I get scared at things that aren't even meant to be horror) but I love watching these making of things you do!

How does this not have more views from movie lovers? This makes me appreciate the movie even more now damn
Edit: 6:36 LOL
This is amazing, it's not the marketing crap you get from other behind the scene features. This is a unique down to earth look at a movie.
We're getting force fed so much when it comes to movies. but here we just see someone explaining his craft, no unnecessary polishing. Just some dude showing his passion.
YES!!!!! I'm really drunk right now but I'm goign to wait till tomorrow to appreciate this video when I'm sober. You're the best!
Man it's been a year. Are you ok?

You're an inspiration man. Hopefully I can earn a role in one of your movies one day.
Dude Imagine in a couple years you come back to this comment and your a huge actor!
BE his wife, and ur dream will come true hhh
I definitely think that you are the most down to earth, normal person director. And it really helps that you came from indie, diy film making. I really love that you've put your own shots into the final film.

I think it’s awesome that the studio let you create shots on your own like this and trusted you with it
You're not just a director David Sandberg. You're a pioneer of film making. Bless you and your success.
This so awesome, I havent seen any director doing vfx by his own, David is so talented.
You're like a one-stop-shop for how movies are made.
I'm a Huge fan! I just saw this movie the other night for the first time. It was, in my opinion, one of the best scary movies made to date. Such an inspiring dude. Thanks for sharing your little secrets on set. It's incredible to see such an independent filmmaker achieve so much.
David,
I admire all of the homemade VFX shots you did in this film. This movie is INTENSE! I was so scared and I usually don`t get like this during horror movies these days. You managed to make a great film. Great Job David

Still by far the best in the field right now, you'll be a legend in horror cinema.
Thanks for posting these. It's so great to get this insight into how the pros do their great work.
I actually like these videos a lot more than the extra content I usually see on blu rays. You should include these TH-cam vids about the film as bonus features on the disc too ^_^
Wow it's amazing seeing what a real director does.
This is the one movie where I’m looking forward to the commentary track
Annabelle Creation genuinely was a scary film. Easily the best in the series thus far.
You are by far my favorite director at the moment. I loved Annabelle: Creation, and Lights out but Shazam... WAS GREAT! By far my favorite superhero film in all of cinema history. Absolutely loved the movie! Waaaaay better than the first instalment! Can’t wait to get the DVD. 👍🏻
This is like a new generation of the 5 minutes film school by Robert Rodriguez. Great stuff you have here!

Hi, i love your videos and i have a question. i make animationfilms but i really would like to make short films. do you think it is a bad idea to upload the videos on the same channel?
