- As a tribute to their long-term Music Director and Conductor, the musicians of the GSO offered a rare "Tusch" during the final performances of the 2022-23 season.
Tchivzhel led the GSO, Greenville Chorale (Bingham Vick Jr.), with guest soloists Christina Major (Soprano) and Stacey Rishon (Mezzo Soprano) in a powerful interpretation of Gustav Mahler's "Resurrection" Symphony #2.

Maestro Edvard Tchivzhel assumed the role of Music Director and Conductor Emeritus of the Greenville Symphony Orchestra in 2023 after 24 seasons.
What is a "Tusch"?
The German word for a musical flourish or brass fanfare, it is a tradition among European trumpeters and other brass and wind instrumentalists since at least the 17th century. A Tusch is performed to honor a retiring maestro or musician and a public recognition of their legacy. It is rare, and done with great consideration for the moment. It is not just a "tip of the hat" but is something deeper; a show of solidarity and respect, and an indication one’s legacy will live on.
