black sails has taken over my life, honestly
this vid is crap, and i apologize for that
but in my defence these two have such a complex relationship, & it's quite difficult to portray
i'll try again in the future (i hope)
anyway, here i tried to focus on "darkness" as an entity embodied by flint - " the greatest villain in the new world"
pointing to how it's a fictional construct more than anything else, an image that he fashioned for himself over the years
but that nonetheless takes its toll on him - something he rather do away with if he could
AND i tried to show how silver thinks he has everything under control when it comes to flint
when in reality, he's clearly overwhelmed by that darkness and craves flint's power
    w/e, idk
    WATCH THIS SHOW

Did a marathon of this show recently. While there were so many engaging characters with interesting relationships, these two are probably my favorite. Even Silver's relationship with Madi has Flint all over it. There's just *so much* going on, there, and it's far from over if the timeline is anything to go by.

i have got to tell you that i watched this video almost 5 years ago and it convinced me that this show is worth watching and while it may have taken me awhile to finally start it.....this is the video i always come back to. just PERFECTLY paced and this version of the song has that eerie undertone that silverflint really work with, ambiguous and tentative. drawn to the dark but feeling confident about the ability to stay away entirely. wonderful.

😭😭😭 you're motivating me to keep editing black sails now that ive rewatched it, because I have so many edits living rent free in my head but little motivation to bring them into existence, and even less time......... thanks, I'm glad this video did that for you, sincerly hope you edit this show too!!

Damn I'm sorry I missed out, I don't know anyone that had even heard of black sails much less watched it.
It's worth noting, that there are some very real people portrayed in Black Sails, one is Capt Vane, Vane, was in fact hung on Nassau in the same way he was hung on Black Sails, it's called a short drop, and it's meant to leave the person dangling, thus strangle, so friends or family members would literally hang on the persons legs to speed the process.
Woods Rogers is another one, he is in fact credited with killing Ed Teach AKA, Black Beard, Rodgers didn't kill him by keel hauling. In reality, Rogers and Black Beard did fight each other, but Black Beard didnt go down easy, he was shot 4-6 times, stabbed multiple times before finally dying, and as in Black Sails, Woods Rogers cut off his head. The actor that played Black Beard, is a good representation of what Ed Teach would have looked like, history shows him as being around 280 pounds and 6ft 7, so he would have been a giant at a time when most men didn't reach the height of 6 feet.
Ann Bonney, and Capt Jack Rackam AKA Calico Jack, did really exist as well, it's believed that Ann Bonney died pregnant and in prison in South Carolina. Jack well he was hung in Nassau around 1720. In fact if my memory serves me, Jack Rackam was hung before Vane. And it's also true that the ship names they use in the show, were the names of the real pirates ships. Hornigold, was also a real person, but not as old as the show depicts him, in reality he was killed hunting pirates after accepting a pardon. It's also interesting that Woods Rogers was a privateer, before becoming governor of Nassau, and I believe that it was Rogers who rescued a shipwrecked man, who inspired the book "Robinson Crusoe".
All of these people were born in the late 1690s and so they operated at the twilight of piracy. Nevertheless, by the time Rogers became governor of Nassau (where he's buried today) there were 2,000 pirates on the island. Edward Low (in the show Vane cut his head off, on his own ship) he was a notorious man, a killer, a thief, and I think his wife died in childbirth (but I could be wrong, since I'm recalling this shit from memory) again he was born in the 1690s and died in around 1720-1724 all of them were around the same ages, in their 30s, but that was a lifetime, at a time when the average life span was 40 years...short but merry lives. And all of the pirates were born into poverty or some form of slavery. And initially being a pirate was legal, after the English Spanish war, where pirates were basically "licensed" by the Queen of England to harass, sink, Spanish shipping. After the war the some of the "privateers" realized that they would be going back to being poor or just making a living. So people like Vane, Rackam, Hornigold, became Pirates, because as Vane put it, I will be a slave to no man.

goddamn, you always have such amazing song choices! We must have very similar music taste or something. It's quite incredible.
And so is this video! don't you dare say it isn't. I love the simplicity of the editing and the complexity of the plot and characters flowing though this video. and now I have another show i'm dying to watch.
Black sails looks so freaking good!

+WIRWENxx i absolutely understand. That's usually the reason why I will edit about the same subject several times. It's to capture different facets of it. Because I never feel like I get it right the first time. Though what I do like about my first videos about a show/ship/character is the innocence of it. I'm just getting to know what I am editing to and usually end up forgetting pivotal scenes. But that don't matter because that first video feels like a first draft that I can later improve on.
On the other hand you don't seem to need that first draft. You must have a brilliant memory or something, because you never miss out on those important scenes.

I realize it's been 4 years since you made this video but I feel a mighty need to tell you how freaking amazing it is. THE SONG. THE EDITING. THEM!!!
I watched Black Sails 2 years ago and it took over my life completely, and now, for some reason it's happening all over again. It's such an amazing show, with so many well-developed characters. In many ways it reminds me of NBC Hannibal (especially the dynamic between Silver and Flint)
Anyway, if you read this please know that this video is so fucking cool, I love love love how you took on the dark side of Flint!
PS. I would love to get a link to the song because I've not been able to find this version and it's absolutely perfect.
