Every time I save the project under Document>Save it puts another version in the viewport that's locked and I cannot get rid of. This software is probably the worst for UI flow and usability I've ever experienced. This software is extremely powerful yet poorly organized.

Because you're doing it wrong, you go to file and save that way.
