Another thing I love about "Flicky" is the fact that the titular character happens to be the very same bird that would appear in the Sonic games afterwards.
Nice of you to cover the SMS and SG-1000! Barely anyone mentioning those these days. Nice to see you loved Battle OutRun! I have the WR for it. My personal hidden gems: - SMS Jurassic Park - SMS Submarine Attack - SMS Legend of Illusion - SMS Deep Duck Trouble - SMS Alex Kidd BMX Trial - SMS Alex Kidd The Lost Stars - SMS Special Criminal Investigation
You can't leave out Phantasy Star. And the Master System's best shooters were phenomenal: R-Type, Aleste/Power Strike I & II, Fantasy Zone I & II, and Sagaia honestly are actually slightly superior to the already legendary NES/Famicom lineup of classic shooters, such as Gradius I & II, Lifeforce, Over Horizon, Gun-Nac, Uchuu Keibitai SDF, Recca, and Crisis Force.
@@MasterSystemMarceau Deep Duck Trouble and Land of Illusion are pretty well known properties though. Chuck Rock II: Son of Chuck is a less well known game on the SMS, but it's graphics are nearly 16-bit in quality. The NewZealand Story port on the Master System is excellent as well. There's also Time Soldiers, Taz-Mania, and a very good port of Gauntlet.
@@ostiariusalpha I said LEGEND of Illusion, not Land. And Deep Duck Trouble is starting to get noticed but nobody played it back then because it released super late.
Zillion could be compared closest to Metroid on the NES. Its also interesting how close Dynamite Dux character resembles Sonic with the Blue Body, Red sneakers, and facial expressions.
This was so cool. I loved seeing the SG-1000 stuff. It's very rare seeing videos about those games. The games you selected for the Master System and Genesis were great too.
Golgo 13 Also has helicpoters that drop bombs in later rounds. Golden Axe Warrior is unlockable on the Genesis collection on the Xbox 360 and PS3. Some great unsung games shown here. Nicely done.
Riggs put Bonk's Adventure and Blazing Lasers on his "underated hidden gems" of the turbo grafx... and Kieth Courage... which was the pack in and literally everyone owns it.
I couldn't get into Zelda as a kid because of Golvellius. I just thought that game was better the original Zelda game! The Sega Master does have one of my favourite game of all time, Wonder Boy 2 in Monster Land. I pick it up every now and then for a playthrough on my original Sega Master!
Huge, huge fan. Love telling the fam “hey, it’s John N Riggs, he’s got a new video!” Love to see a new N Rigged video. Makes me forget whether I even had breakfast this morning.
Oh man, that timer on Girl's Garden is savage. 🤣 Nice to see Golvellius on here. That's my top SMS game. I think they should go to that place in New Mexico where they buried all of that Atari stuff, dig a new hole, and dump Awesome Possum in there, although that would be kind of insulting to the Atari stuff they buried.
I borrowed my best friend's copy of Skitchin' like 26 years ago, I still have it, he knows I have it, and somewhere along the line I acquired a second copy. So, I have two of them, one will make it's way back to my friend, great game, my fav song was 'Chug Rock'
Golden Axe Warrior is a pretty good Zelda clone. In scope it fots between Zelda 1 & Link to the Past. It didnt feel quite as tight in execution as the Zelda games to me but certainly not bad. Only 2 real complaints 1) starting out the range of your weapon is horrible & hard to line up. 2) there are no start or select buttons on the Master System controller; only 2 action buttons. This unfortunately means one button is you equipped item & the other brings up your item menu. This results in you having to switch items way more than in Zelda. Its mitigated a bit by sone items doing multi duty; like the axe being a weapon & able to cut down trees to find hidden areas. But in general its a bit frustrating especially after having played Zelda, but not a game breaker.
Thanks John, all awesome choices as far as I'm concerned. I love Sega, and you reccomended a couple few games for the SG-1000 and Master System I havent tried and look very appealing. Only game I would add is Galaga for SG-1000. Considering the system, its absoulutely excellent. Dragon Wang. Hehehe.
Black Belt character stated RIKI only heard of Fist of the North Star. I wonder If Riki OH! was a consideration gruesome movie but funny as hell lots of action!
I had Congo Bongo on Atari 2600 one of my favorite Atari games now for Sega Master System that goes to Power Strike 2 for the Genesis that goes to Contra Hard Corps
I play SG-1000 on one of my countless Batocera boxes, I've seen a few in the Detroit area in the past at Trade Markets or game store for ridiculous prices; My youngest daughter loves Girls Garden Obviously lol the Older 2 love Flicky
I wonder if the setup for the Sims wear impaired by Haunting Starring Polterguy Just found out that the Sega Master System appears in a few episodes of Regular Show My all time favorite game system is the Sega Genesis
You skipped my favorite Sg1000 game! The Castle is something of a metroidvania, and a ton of fun. You have a super floaty jump and can speed up or slow down time, and you ransack a castle room by toom, looking for colored keys and taking on mimor platforming challenges. There is a NES sequel, but it doesn't play as well and the map osnt as well thought out.
Sega had so much potential. If they could have just teamed up with Nintendo back then, we would have great looking games for the most part (Sega) with the best controls, music, sound effects, storyline, characters and a better feeling controller (Nintendo).
I really really really hate Art Alive, I rented it back in the day when I did not understand english and I had to "play" this crappy MS Paint wannabe for an entire 4-Day-Weekend!
The Best, the Underrated and the Hidden Gems of TurboGrafx-16 th-cam.com/video/yn17EuPSaVU/w-d-xo.html
Master of Darkness was released in the U.S. It was Vampire: Master of Darkness for the Game Gear! 🤟😎🤙
Another thing I love about "Flicky" is the fact that the titular character happens to be the very same bird that would appear in the Sonic games afterwards.
I find that the master system had better graphics than the nes, it's such an underrated console as well .
Wonder Boy in MonsterLand (Wonder Boy 2) is my favorite 8-bit video game ever made. Thank you SMS👍

Even less of anyone mentions the retro Japanese computers that had hundreds more great games 😉

More top Master System games to check out:
Kenseiden
Spellcaster
Lord Of The Sword
Psycho Fox
Alex Kidd In Shinobi World
I would massively recommend Jurrasic Park on the master system. Loved that game.
Zillion could be compared closest to Metroid on the NES. Its also interesting how close Dynamite Dux character resembles Sonic with the Blue Body, Red sneakers, and facial expressions.
I'll probably never play any of these games but I always enjoy learning about them.
This was so cool. I loved seeing the SG-1000 stuff. It's very rare seeing videos about those games. The games you selected for the Master System and Genesis were great too.
I always had a soft spot for Belle's Quest, I feel like they really made the best of the FM sound chip for the music
Oh man can’t wait to watch this later
Golgo 13 Also has helicpoters that drop bombs in later rounds.
Golden Axe Warrior is unlockable on the Genesis collection on the Xbox 360 and PS3.
Some great unsung games shown here.

Awesome Possom is hugely underrated. It’s easily top 5 animal mascot platformer that’s not Sonic on Genesis.
"Excellent animation, especially for Sega Genesis." You are adorable man.
I wouldn't call Girl's Garden underrated. It's probably the most praised and beloved SG-1000 game in the modern landscape.
Riggs put Bonk's Adventure and Blazing Lasers on his "underated hidden gems" of the turbo grafx... and Kieth Courage... which was the pack in and literally everyone owns it.
Alot of these games would be good to be on the Evercade

Been trying out SG-1000 games recently, pretty impressive for pre-NES console games
Sadly it wasn't Pre. It was released the same day as the Famicom in Japan it was just underpowered.
@@Owazrim that's true, forgot about that
It was in fact a repackaged Colecovision.
@@iwanttocomplain They shared a lot of the same hardware.
@Owazrim about the same spec at least
If you like Elemental Master, you might also enjoy Undead Line.
Zillion reminds me of Impossible Mission on the C64
There is a good version of impossible mission for the Sega Master System
Awesome title-list. Thank you, there is a lot to discover. Flicky is one of my favorite arcade game of all times. :)
Huge, huge fan. Love telling the fam “hey, it’s John N Riggs, he’s got a new video!” Love to see a new N Rigged video. Makes me forget whether I even had breakfast this morning.
Just need Pyscho Fox in there... And maybe Alex Kidd in Shinobi World!
Excellent video!! I still play my sg1000 and master system.
I had Granada on my mega drive as a kid, loved it! Did you ever try zero tolerance? It has a link up system using pad 2 pprt

Some pure gems in this video 👍😉
Teddy Boy on Master System has to be in this list.
Thank you so much for this selection 👍
Going through all the consoles year by year can’t wait for Neo Geo then 3DO then Nintendo then Sony then Microsoft appreciate you John Riggs
Super Off Road for Master System, quite underrated :(
Dragon Wang became a meme on GameFAQs (or fads as we called them) message board in the early 2000s for the name alone.
I borrowed my best friend's copy of Skitchin' like 26 years ago, I still have it, he knows I have it, and somewhere along the line I acquired a second copy.

"I want Zelda"
"We have Zelda at home" 😂
Cool vid. Oh yeah, Master of Darkness was released in the US but only for the Game Gear.
zillion is a standout but one game for the sms that i dont see people talk about is dragon crystal, one of my personal favourites from that era.
SEGA used to have amazing games , would love to see them eventually make a new console at some point and battle the rest.

Maybe it's just me, but solely from the footage here, Zillion really, really reminds me of Impossible Mission for the Commodore 64...
There is a good version of impossible mission for the Sega Master System
The Gaming Historian did great video on Crusader of Centy.
I had Congo Bongo on Atari 2600 one of my favorite Atari games now for Sega Master System that goes to Power Strike 2 for the Genesis that goes to Contra Hard Corps

I used to have zero tolerance that was like a doom game for the Sega Genesis
I wish the Master System had a better sound chip on it. They had way better graphics than NES, but the sound was just junk.
I laughed out loud at "Dragon Wang".
Mystic defender is a sequel too a Master System game.
Dragon Wang is the prequel too Kung Fu Kid on the Master System.
Yet to see a bad Riggs video. I did Riggs
Love haunting, need some Toki in this
I've never played Crusader of Centy, but it looks like a close comparison to Neutopia on the TG-16

Great video
I’ve heard that Dragon Wang is really hard!
What's the best Retro upscaler for my NES

Dynamite Duke plays like The Punisher on the NES.
Colonel Sanders is in Dynamite Düx
I guess you didn't get far enough in Action Fighter to become a plane. Lol
I'll bet you Sega sold 0 copies of Girl's Garden.
Could you do some Game Gear reviews?
0:04 in the arcade it's 3d?
I think he means isometric
UK is not the same thing as Europe.
Golveeus?! GOL-VEL-EEUS.
Give me Art the Clown.....not Art Alive...lol
It's like "blah" on NES. Someone wants to believe the NES games of their youth were original (sometimes they were but often not).
The SG-1000 looked like a better Atari.
Awesome Possum is definitely not a hidden gem 😂
Lol in retrospect how messed up that is of a plot where if you run out of time, your bf just runs off with another girl.
Awesome Possum objectively sucks
Just seemed like everything Sega did was try and knock off Nintendo.
