For air .. is it only 7599 MOS under this option? What about other air-type roles: 6002, 6602, 72XX, 7315.. are these part of the air contract, or "ground"?
Which MOS(s) are the most competitive (i.e. a typical candidate comes in, which jobs do they usually want?)? Also, which jobs tend to have the most openings (that is, there is always an opening?)? Thanks so much for your time, service, and consideration!
Candidates usually want a "Ground" contract. Usually, the competitiveness of ground and air are the same- around 55% selection. Law varies.. some classes the selecdtion is high and some are low. Reserves right now, is pretty high. I believe they are selecting 70%.
I just enlisted into the Marines for active duty and one of my goals in the future is to become an Marine Officer but I also want to pursue my other dream job as a police officer is it possible I can go through OCS while I’m in active then be a officer in the reserves afterwards and be a cop at the same time? Or all officers are required to go through active for a few years? My MOS is legal services because I was not able to get MP due to my height being 5ft (requirement was 5’4), so I chose legal services since it’s fairly similar what I want to do in my life.
Thank you for another informative video Capt.Dubon! Would you touch upon candidates who have reserve contract in hopes of changing it to active duty afterwards? I have so many candidates in my office that are ground reserve contract and some told me that they will try to switch to active later. From what I've heard, just like enlisted side, switching from reserve to active involves so many process and is unrealistic. Also, how does US-other country conflict affect candidates? If need for deployment and officers increase, does that also increase the likelihood of Marine Corps wanting more candidates to be trained as officers (and hence selection rates)?
There are some opportunitiees to go active but they are tough and not as easy as it may seem. You would have to be competitive as a reserve officer and that usually means that you have more active duty time served than your peers. There is a program called "Active Reserves" which is a little bit easier to get into. Current conflicts are not playing a factor in numbers because there are no major conflicts in place. Yes, if something similar happens like in 2001-2003, those numbers will rise.

Very niche question here, about your last statement - they want to see that you want to be a Marine officer first and above all. Hi Matthew. There is no such thing as "opting for ground". For example, the board will see you as an air candidate. If not selected, you will not automatically fall into a "ground" component. The only way being opened to ground helps, is with your OSO. It demonstrates that you want to serve first which can improve his notes on your air application.
@@warriorspath9511 Thank you sir. I appreciate the response. Apparently for this board, it is a special case, as I'm told due to the backlogging of flight slots at the moment. You commission from USNA with either a Ground contract or an Air contract (Pilot only. No more NFO’s). All ground contracts compete for an MOS at TBS, including AAV.
