I love that the armoires (wardrobe) come apart and can be put back together so easily! I also love the fact that all the chateau owners seem to know each other.
Angelina is so sweet, I love her cheerful nature and positive approach to the challenging tasks that Chateau life brings. Keep up the amazing work Angelina and Phil! 💐💘🔨🏰
As a couple, you work hard and tackle many enormous tasks. Highly impressive how you keep going. I especially liked watching you design, carve and paint a sign for the outside of your chateau and restore the swan/duck house.
Just found your channel, courtesy of Michael Petherick. Beautiful chateau. Would love a chateau tour video and your origin story, how you ended up owning a French chateau. Thanks~ Jami
Their place is wonderful isn't it and what a blog he's creating! We will do a little tour in the future when the spring has arrived properly and we've caught up our indoor projects from the water so the place looks a little better!
You are both so handy! A perfect match! It is so wonderful to visit all the Chateaus each day. Unfortunately I n the U.S everything had gone quite mad! I'm recovering from several eye surgerys and I'm constantly trying peer into my phone to see videos.Thankyou and I love your beautiful loud peacock 😍😁👍🙋🕊️
14:00. I've heard people talk about stump grinders, but I always thought that they were a massive piece of equipment. I have a few stumps in my backyard, but I generally just mow around them and then weed whack the grass that the mower can't hit. I might have to look into rent a stump grinder. That looked pretty straight forward and it's about the size of my lawn mower so it's easy to maneuver. Thanks for the upload. I've been loving your videos. I am starting from the beginning and moving forward to the present.
Thanks so much for sharing your projects with us - makes being in 'lockdown' (here in NZ) more bearable. Also, really like the way you introduce what you'll being doing at the beginning of each video, and what you'll be featuring in the next video 👍🏼💐
Thanks! We weren't sure to begin with but for us it was a sort of way to interact with the viewers before showing stuff we filmed over the week. Stay tuned for more x
The new wardrobe is stunning & great job on the tile- what a transformation. Also thanks Phil for the detail on the stump grinder- I always wondered how those worked!!!!
Thank you for a wonderful series to date. I find your presentation well scripted and flowing with content, as a couple you seem to bounce ideas off each other which I find quite inspirational. Clearly my favourite among the new batch of growing chateau blogs on TH-cam.
Thanks so much! No scripts it’s just us and we make it up as we go as you can probably tell! Hopefully we manage to get the story of what’s going on that week across; glad you’re enjoying them
(Moira Ashton) I thoroughly enjoyed this, especially the cherub room, what a beautiful wardrobe! I can't wait to see the chandelier "dressed" up in all it finery, 💗
OMG! I didn't know you could paint bathroom tiles. TY, TY and TY. Guess where I''m going tomorrow? Shopping for paint. I am so excited. Thank you for showing us that, I didn't know they made such a thing.
Love the chateau. We can live our dreams of living in a chateau through all of you owning chateaus in France. Lots of hard work but it must be very satisfying. The wardrobe and chandelier finished off the bedroom wonderful 💕Stay safe!
I wish I lived closer, we have some antiques we have been trying to get rid of because we don’t have room for them. We don’t want to toss them because we are hoping someone would restore them. We’ve already donated one thing to a historic home. We also have a ton of antique tea sets and dinnerware. Very old milk glass and more.
Hmmmm I might do using airbrush tool as the direct paint method will bee too strong I’ve now found. Thanks for giving me the idea!!! I shall be back for the Crystal hanging to that chandelier so it’s will be great timing
You can get grout paint markers, they are sort of like the metallic markers that have little balls inside that you have to shake well . They really work well.
Yeah we didn’t of that but when we saw the finished result we liked it and thought the bright white grout lines would actually ruin the finished result
That paint will peel off the tiles soon enough, there is a product using resin as a second coat that lasts...you sand the tiles, then paint with their special paint then when that dries paint with their clear resin varnish and you can have mat, satin or brilliant tiles. It's called resinence. I did my bathroom black and kitchen backsplash metallic silver and LOVED the results.
It’s been 2 years in another bathroom that has heavy use we didn’t show and no peeling or anything. As we explained this paint uses an activator so doesn’t need a resin coat after as it has it mixed in to the paint and lasts years without issues as has been proven elsewhere here x
Well done you both. Anyway must say the painted tiles looks good. Good example. Heard about it before but never seen it. Well done Keep safe and be safe
Lovely addition to my viewing schedule. Keeping me motivated for D.I.Y projects during isolation.... maybe I'll get started decorating my room. Once I've watched this and my other favourite Chateau owners. Thanks guys. All the best with your new channel xx
I just thought you could add some fancy wood pieces to the tiny wardrobe and mirrored front and you could turn it into something usable ! Anyway great work very beautiful!
I'm in Scotland too! Watching Chateau D.I.Y and Chateau Diaries to inspire me to decorate during isolation. And now I've got Chateau Life and Doing it Ourselves to keep me motivated (procrastinating)
Love the cherub bedroom, especially the armoire.I don’t know why thePethericks would want to get rid of it,it’s not like they don’t have room for it or have too much storage lol
It’s beautiful but ideas change and we have 2 different style of what we want the chateau to be like. I’ve noticed they want the originals and the classic antiques & I prefer & love to transform it in to a more modern French chic Parisian look with Serpents heads & rococo style things that are light & pastel colours. I grew up in a dark house & so I hate anything dark style but appreciate some of the dark rooms I am leaving alone here (not many luckily) & appreciate & understand what they are going after. You’ll start to notice how every chateau owner style is set inside to a certain theme from now perhaps.
to fix the crack above the cupboard on the scroll where it was damaged take plaster and fill the cracks remove excces with your fingers till it is smooth, then take a old hard toothbrush or sand paper and rub agaisnt the plaster till you like how it looks then paint it and it will look perfect again
New-ish to your channel. Learned of you from The Pethricks channel. After watching this video I thought I would suggest if you need help around the chateau to consider doing a volunteer internship. People with specific skills could stay at the chateau for free and work at the chateau on the grounds, painting, cleaning, etc. Just a thought. Best wishes.
Hi hi, I just came upon you videos and I am wondering if you have an introduction video, I looked but didn’t see one. It would be wonderful to learn a little about you, how you came to living in a château, and how are you started your blog. Renovation and DIY videos are my favorite, and I must say you did a beautiful job refurbishing and decorating this bedroom and bath. Could you make some video tours of your Château please, I would so love to see it more. 🌸
Thanks! We will do in the future! We don’t have an intro video but will do something in the near future for all our new followers. Long story made short we got fed up with London and we were looking for a wedding venue, found this place, fell in love, moved in and got married here at the Chateau the year after
I was helping my sister in the bathroom of her newly purchased home when I tell off the ladder and ripped the sink off the wall. What made it worse was that the room was no bigger than a closet and I had to shut myself inside in order to get the ladder open. My sister heard a loud noise, glass breaking a large thud and me cry out in pain and couldn't get inside to see what happened! I was ok but the sink was not.
The reason behind the lights in bedrooms being near a window was because dressing tables were placed in front of it and the light helped ladies with their make up etc.
We’d heard that but here it wasn’t for that reason it was lazy electricians; the rooms never had ceiling lights originally so when rewired they weren’t put in the old place for the reason you stated and other rooms they aren’t near a window they are just put wherever it was easy because of beams and flooring to come down from the attic x
We have movable towers as well its just the height of the ceilings are enormous. That room is on the top floor which is the lowest ceiling height; the ground and first floors are almost twice the height!
I really enjoy your videos! I find you both very relatable and fun to watch. My question is: did your Chateau ever have formal gardens (if you know)? If so, do you have any plans to restore them? I would love to see that process and learn more about what plants and trees are found on your property. Thank you for brightening our lockdown with your videos!
No formal gardens, it used to be a field full of cows as I can tell from a fixture found somewhere, then got made in to a lawn garden & then turned in to an English garden where there’s trees & shrubs anywhere. Great suggestion for future video of what nature we have growing here that keeps all the birds and animals happy. Thank you
Thanks so much! With weekly episodes 15 mins is about all we can manage as the tasks we are filming take huge amount of time so can't get many done in the filming week. There's some great plans in the future for longer more in depth episodes less frequent for you so please do stay tuned and support us while we're getting going x
Thanks you two, it’s nice to get an insight into your life. I’m interested to know what the paint was that you used for the tiles and is it a Matt or shiny finish? Looking forward to your next video xx stay safe xx
It was shiny and a specific tile paint which required a chemical activator added (came with it) to harden it. May try to find the tub if I can but it's in French!
Your frame is from the Art Nouveau or Craftsman period. I was surprised that you didn't use some of your gold rub and buff to bring out the detail on the ceiling chandelier medallion. You can use some wood putty on the broken crown medallion on your wardrobe so the gaps are not so noticeable. Also that wardrobe is screaming out for some gold detailing. You're doing a great job! Keep up the good work! PS: You need to give your bathroom floor a good coat of varnish so water will not damage the wood any further. It will also protect against getting splinters in your feet. 👍😎👍

Are you allowed to do your own electrical and plumbing work in France? That is illegal here in Australia, it has to be done by a qualified and licensed tradesperson.
What people? My home isn’t open to the public these rooms are only for friends and family when they stay; due to the house plumbing the toilets are elsewhere on that floor until a much later stage.
tell me about it, who know's what goes in peoples minds, bearing in mind the whole base comes apart I'd just have removed it completely, the top is the best part!!!
@@ChateauLife I thinkthetop is the best part too, some people don't use the brain God gave them. Our first Christmas tree in Berlin was really tall and the ceilings were also tall but the tree needed a bit off. My now ex husband was going to take one foot off the top. He was always doing stuff like that and it's some of the reasons he's my ex.
Loved the room...but painting tile that looked in good shape...mmm... I do think you could have found a colour for the bath walls that would have been a pleasant surprise...an upped the room....gray is not always a go to color... Love your enthusiasm..it can't be easy ...
It’s difficult as it’s personal taste. The tiles were indeed in good condition or we wouldn’t have painted them for a makeover they would have needed replacing. I can barely handle the upkeep on a two bedroom condo so I have NO idea how you're managing this whole thing yourselves. :-)
It keeps us busy!
👍😎👍
We put down waterproof flooring for protection and to avoid splinters.
Yeah the wardrobe needs some work now but you can only get so much done in one go here when it's just two of you!
You should do a walk through, and do one after every few rooms are redone. Ppl with watch them!!
Yes that’s the plan for the future for sure.
Could you please tell me what color of purple paint did you use for the bedroom? I absolutely love it. Love what you've done. Great job to you both. ❤️ Love your videos.
Hi we didn’t paint the bedroom, it’s a dusky pink colour. It was already like that when we moved in. The tiles we painted in the bathroom though are light grey colour.
Ok thanks sweetie ❤️. Yes I loved the transformation of the bathroom you did. It looks amazing.
Great room guys looks great. So do you own the Château now or still rent last time I watched diy Château you was looking to buy one. ?
Stuart Maddocks I was wondering about that as well xx
Lets just say we didn't decide to buy another and I'm not jinxing anything at the moment so thats an answer for the future...
You should investigate first why you have cracks on the ceiling . My be something should be fixed before getting rid off cracks.
❤
You should try paint the worderope ...
Adding detail is what’s on the to do list for it but not immediately, nature waits for no one
Where is the toilet?
Have you bought the Château ? Or still renting ?
Must be difficult when so much depends on the situation we are all in.
Theres an answer we just can't give away at the moment.....
Chateau Life ok no worries just seems such a waste of time and effort
But you really need a substantial sum to start with I suspect.
Are you allowed to do your own electrical and plumbing work in France? That is illegal here in Australia, it has to be done by a qualified and licensed tradesperson.
We are aloud still but ideally with electrics you should have them checked afterwards by a qualified electrician so your insurance is happy
Where are people going to use the toilet 🚽
What people? My home isn’t open to the public these rooms are only for friends and family when they stay; due to the house plumbing the toilets are elsewhere on that floor until a much later stage.
The Bedroom furniture needs gilding
Yes definitely
If they wanted to cut something off to make it fit, why didn't they cut off the legs? You could hide the fact that you did that.

Grey has a subdued, timely, elegance.
It’s difficult as it’s personal taste. The tiles were indeed in good condition or we wouldn’t have painted them for a makeover they would have needed replacing. There are about 13 pink tiles bathrooms here so after looking at them everyday for almost 5 years you tend to have a less than positive view on link tiles!
why on earth did you paint the tile
Because the pink is horrible, dated and we used specialist tile paint which gives a fresh look without having to remove and replace tiles
