I’m starting a 1/6 clipped wing cub on floats and a 1/3 space walker this winter. Absolutely love retro Sig kits. Just finished a scratch build of a Goldberg Bucker Jungmann from the original kit plans. Best plane I ever flew 20 yrs ago so I decided I wanted another. I actually have a puncture tool. Keep building!
Another approach to graphics is to have Callie Graphics make a complete set of vinyl graphics for trim and wing numbers, etc. I have had some success with making cutting patterns from manila folder and cutting out monocote trim, and using trim iron to carefully attach the periphery of trim pieces and piercing air bubbles while using regular covering iron. Monocote self adhesive trim film used to be available for trim and worked OK. Top Notch offered very realistic built-up Cub cylinder kits for 1/6 thru 1/4 scale. I used Dubro 1/5 scale Cub logo hubcap wheels on my 1/6 Cub, they look OK, somewhat fiddly to install. Very nice work. Cubs are under-appreciated. Learning full-scale tail-dragger piloting techniques and "Cub lore" can be fascinating.
Absolutely beautiful!!! When I did the stripes on my super chipmunk I used monokote and used windex and let them set for 24 hrs and then hit it with my iron and it came out great!
You my friend are incredibly talented. I never would’ve thought of poking pin holes on the underlying layer. Beautiful job. I’m a huge chipmunk fan as well and about to embark on a mint CG chipmunk I scored not long ago. I had one 30 yrs ago and regretted selling it ever since. Keep up the great vids
Lookin' good, Andy. his will be a good plane for playing "transmitter toss." On sport scale cabin models such as this, I like to put in a removable deck and back panel just below the window line. It really gives the model a more finished look, and it's easy to do.
Nice work. I build three of them 30 years ago, one was 90% done and has been sitting in my garage ever since, scale landing gear out of a/c steel silver soldered .... a real gem. Have a 1/3 landing gear also but probably never use it... like you said Corona project after a 30 year break working to finis my 1/4 scale now... retired with no time until Corona. Your video are very informative and will get me flying again... I guess I need new radio, I think I can still use my servomechanism?
Best tip I’ve got ever! Thanks I’ve been fighting putting covering on top of covering for years! Such a simple concept and I’m sure other guys have done it but you are the first one to bring it to my attention and I thank you!
I loved looking at that Cub in the Sig catalog when I was a kid. I hope you go into detail about the canopy and window mounting, would be really interested in that. Thanks!
Great work Andrew. What a beauty! I’m getting really close to covering my Sig 1/6 scale fuselage so I’m being forced to address the aspects of the build I’ve been avoiding due to lack of ideas. Your landing gear fairings that cover the wire gear look flawless. I’m curious if you have any pictures of those before you covered them so I can see how you did it? Thank you for sharing your build!
They're not covered. They're epoxied onto the wire landing gear then covered with fiberglass cloth with two coats of resin and then painted to match the blue covering
Gave it a go...no bueno! A couple questions if you have time. I tried doing the top and bottom with one piece of glass. I couldn't get the glass to stay down where I wrapped it around the edges. I bailed on the whole operation to do some more research. I was using 2 oz cloth. The epoxy is from Raka epoxy (similar to West Systems) a boat project I'm planning. Would you recommend using two pieces of glass? My thought was I'd like to use one so it'll span the joint between the balsa and wire gear. I'm now thinking maybe I should glass one side, let it dry, and then wrap the excess and epoxy the bottom. Also what weight glass do you use for your stuff. Maybe lighter than 2 oz would work better for what I'm trying to do?
@@tomwassmer9828 3/4 oz is what to use. Do the bottom and overlap to the top about 1/2 inch, then glass the top. Once dry add second layer of resin then prime and paint.
Love promodeler servos only problem is every time I start to buy them it wants me to log in, I have paypal they take paypal just sell them to me! I just end up moving on. Cub does look amazing and nothing flies like a cub!
I am waiting for my engine to arrive before I start my Sig 1/4 scale cub kit, So my question to you is how many building hours to this stage I you spent?
very like your video , i start this hobbys in summer 2021 whit aerobeez yak54 profile whit dle 20cc and im very happy. my project this winter is a sig 1/4 clipped wing for fly fpv whit headtracker. but i have question for the engine , im looking for a dle 30cc . what do you think for this choice
Just try to find one of the Woodpeckers! I've tried. If you know anyone that is willing to part with one, please let me know! Nice work, it looks really good. :)
Super covering and paint job! One of the best I’ve ever seen.

Where did your CG end up? Mine is just behind the flat spot on the roof/windshield
@@brianemery8945 never balanced it. No weight added, flew perfect
Totaly agree lovley covering well done .
Great tips! I am fixing to do the same style of stripes on my Goldberg Ann Cub that I re-covered.
Sweet!
That plane is going to be beautiful man. Love the colors you do an awesome job.
Thanks Steve!
Nothing better than a Cub! Looking great!

@@n1114v Thanks so much for the reply! I'll give it a try.
Beautiful, absolutely beautiful
Thanks Joe!
what a great looking model amazing
I see you located both your rudder and elevator servos under the horizontal stab. How did you balance turn out with these servo locations.
Never balanced it..... flew perfect
@@n1114v Wait, you never checked the balance before you flew it!?!?

Monokote royal blue, duplicolor royal blue.
Andrew, if that plane flys as good as it looks, it will be a dream! Very nice!

I’m glad I kept my wood pecker.
Can you still buy them?
Very hard to find now
Good job Gr8 Tip
superb job
Would have used a ball link on the servo arm instead of the Z bend, Much better look..
Remember this is not a competition scale subject, it's purely for nostalgia. Back in the day Z bends were popular in giant scale.
