The E3 demo explicitly claimed "in-game, real-time" footage. The gaming industry needs regulation that holds publishers accountable for delivering their stated technical claims to consumers. Otherwise, they are essentially false advertising.

Remember people. Bioware stated this was running in real-time on console & would not be downgraded at all. They literally said that. Sick of this false advertising.
Bioware has no might to say something like that because it is Electronic Arts wich owns the Games. If EA says: Downgrade for a broader Systems, Bioware has to do it because Bioware is property of EA, EA pays the Money for everything Bioware creates, they pay even the Workers. They get paid for making GAMES for EA.
I remember when I got sick of pre-rendered cutscenes and cinematic trailers. I said then: "Never trust a trailer that isn't gameplay. They're using it to mask their boring gameplay and low-end graphics. But with a gameplay trailer, you know exactly what you're getting!" Oh how naive I was.
companies just adapted... all they had to do was call the pre-rendered cutsenes "gameplay" didnt even cost them a penny.and they went straight back to rippin off everybody
Good graphics don't equal a good game. Looks like the downgrade was a design decision to preserve gameplay; too many visual effects like particles, smoke, flora, and depth of field can interrupt gameplay.

True, I think the short main story and repetitive missions even worse. Hope they fix it with future updates and DLCs just like Bungie did with Destiny 2: Forsaken.
was thinking the same thing. Even with downgrades, it's still higher detail and better lighting than most games these days. Frostbite engine is especially good with volumetric lighting and handling lots and lots of particle effects, so most games coming out of it have a pretty "cinematic" feel to them (although sometimes it's too much and obscures vision). The gameplay however is pure trash once the novelty wears off.
nah. no one cares what they show in E3 or even how the game looks in general. if the game was fun, people would play it but its not. but i do agree that as downgraded as the graphics are, the game STILL looks incredible. ANTHEM is probably in TOP 5 best looking games even in 2021.

Just because it was common practice and some still do it does not mean that we should turn a blind eye. F*ck all of those do it.
It doesnt matter if the game looks good. It is crystal clear how much effort they put into overselling the graphic aspect of the game with the sole purpose to draw attention. E3's presentation was not footage of a game under development - it was a big CGI advertisement for a game that would never reach such standards. That's why it is false advertisement. It's about time EA died down.
i wasnt at e3 so i dont know but did they ever say this was actual ingame footage? because using cinematic trailers for video games is pretty common and i wont consider them false advertising.

I am. I mean, I never thought about getting this game but when I saw the E3 trailer I was like " damn!, This game looks good!. I just can't believe how they lied to the players man, it makes me sad.
None of that "in game, real time footage" was running real time. Its all pre rendered without a doubt. This type of practice badly needs to be outlawed.
There *was* a disclaimer saying real time footage or something, *on top of EA's statement that there would be no downgrade from the E3 trailer* . Downright false advertising.
they started making the game after the so called "gameplay" was revealed at e3. When the trailer was released they had nothing and rushed to creat something similar to the trailer at the end with no time left.
Nothing was removed or downgraded, because nothing was in the game in the first place. There was no game when they released the trailers. The trailers were CGI.
As far as consumer care, the trailer was advertised as literally the gameplay footage when it was announced, therefor when something as much as a single hair does not exist in the final retail compared to how it was again "advertised" it would be a downgrade from the original gameplay trailer footage The trailer sold the game, the trailer was supposed to be the game, when it turned out to be an actual fictional work it IS a downgrade to the consumers point of view, it's messed up since nobody had an idea what the game was not even the devs, yet the consumer saw that trailer and thought they had a good idea on what it was supposed to be since "THIS is what's going on so far in anthem", hence why they bought it from the first place In other words, "False Advertisement" no matter which way you look at it
well, it's CGI whether its gameplay footage or not.... however you are right. Frostbite has tools that allow devs to record gameplay within the engine, swap out the models for higher resolution ones, populate the environment with more details that real time renderers can't handle, blow up the volumetric lighting, and simply batch render it with a GPU/CPU renderer. I knew the second I saw the "gameplay" that it was not real time rendering.
@@supernova9930 It was already confirmed by former employees of BioWare who left the company before it went down, this gameplay was pure CGI, not even the game existed, since the development of this began in early 2018

yes because developers are at first making the think on PCs with PC level of graphical fidelity in mind, then they get to optimization phase and have to cut everything down to make the game run on consoles ... and of course we cant have overwhelmingly better visuals on PC so they are forced to keep the cutdown version on PC too ... its disgusting and pretty much the norm where consoles take precedence over much more capable PCs ...

The entire demo was essentially a cutscene, and the team was showing what they WANTED to produce, not what they were producing. Super well made vid, but one was gameplay, one was not.

While I agree that it is very immoral to do so, it is still a known fact that all release material is going to be downgraded in the final production version in order to make sure that most people can run the game smoothly - hence why a lot of the content has been removed, and graphics have been downgraded. Back in the day, Crysis was famous (infamous) for having very demanding visuals for its time that would not compromise much from pre-release trailers to the final product, hence the "but can it run cysis" meme started. Few companies dare to do such releases that might alienate a part of their playerbase with lower specced computers, hence why these downgrades are there - but at the same time they still try to build hype with a non-compromised release trailer. Imo they should stick to one or the other. Either you go all out and don't compromise on anything, well knowing it will hurt some of your sales - or you just show what people can expect so the compromises won't come as a surprise. But still, you should never expect a trailer to mimic the final release product.

They said it was in-game in-real time.
Yes, it was pretty obvious even then when i watched live. But people still can't quite accept that. Its crazy.
they didn't just downgrade lighting, particles etc. they somehow post-natally aborted the art design
they started making the game after the so called "gameplay" was revealed at e3. When the trailer was released they had nothing and rushed to creat something similar to the trailer at the end with no time left.
Nothing was removed or downgraded, because nothing was in the game in the first place. There was no game when they released the trailers. The trailers were CGI.
As far as consumer care, the trailer was advertised as literally the gameplay footage when it was announced, therefor when something as much as a single hair does not exist in the final retail compared to how it was again "advertised" it would be a downgrade from the original gameplay trailer footage
The trailer sold the game, the trailer was supposed to be the game, when it turned out to be an actual fictional work it IS a downgrade to the consumers point of view, it's messed up since nobody had an idea what the game was not even the devs, yet the consumer saw that trailer and thought they had a good idea on what it was supposed to be since "THIS is what's going on so far in anthem", hence why they bought it from the first place
In other words, "False Advertisement" no matter which way you look at it
yea that true
well, it's CGI whether its gameplay footage or not.... however you are right.

I mean in the case of Anthem its not visual downgrade but they're removing gameplay features..its unbearable
熱きダリル I actually remember them saying that. Lmao! Waiting for that case to come up. I might do it myself. Jk, I ain’t got money like that.
The better question would be "Why ppl still buy these games in 2019 and are surprised?".

I don't think people are being harsh enough, in general. They advertised an extraordinary game and delivered a very ordinary one. It's criminal.
Its gotten bad enough that I almost want to drop gaming period. I'm not going to let somr companies ruin my hobby though, I'm just more selective now than I've ever been about what games I buy.
And the last game I preordered was the first Destiny. After Bungie\Activision made the decision to drop content at the end for the 360 version, I decided to boycott both companies for the rest of my life.
Whats sad is I used to be a huge Halo fan, but the glory days of that series are over. To me, Reach was the last game Bungir made that delivered.
People really need to lace into EA this time because either they need to learn, Or every other developer and publisher out there needs to watch and learn as the gaming community makes an example of them. Let their investors see how much they failed!!
Damn I wish I had so little problems in my life that this is what I would consider criminal.
@@86thsamurai hey there is hope bungie is no longer part of Activision, and they took destiny with them. So I mean we could get a great game out of them now that Activision has no hold on what they can do with Destiny.
But in general I'm right there with you, I picked up black ops 4 when it released and man have I regretted it. It's a decent game probably the best cod I've played since black ops 2, but the greed in the dlc is so ridiculous to me, it like Activision thinks they need more when they barely give us anything for it.
i agree lmao @@herpallday1284
I was excited for this game until I realized it was made by EA. That’s when I immediately lost interest in it
EA is a publisher. And yes they did publish Anthem. However, Bioware made the game.

But even for me honestly If it's made by EA you know its gonna be bad in some way

Still a great game that runs amazingly well.
We didn't need to be lied to, the end product was still great.
that's Ea for you if you can't make the game in 6 months cut it back rofl
That's why I trust EA.

How is this legal? They blatantly lie about the product they're selling...
Someone make a petition for product disinformation, it might actually pass in the EU, to make them show what the final product it. They always pass crap like that.
So does a fast food restuarant
One's called a trailer. One's called gameplay. Nothing illegal just idiotic people getting pissed at things they dont understand.
I don't understand why people still preorder games. I don't feel bad for them.
But still, you should never expect a trailer to mimic the final release product.

the e3 demo was PURELY cinematic, i doubt a human being was even playing it.

False advertising
You can do that?
Noooo the terms and conditions say that the final product may not look like what is advertised. Sadly this is the truth for every upcoming game too. They can false advertise without repercussions
For anyone that still doesn't know the E3 demo was all fake. It was all a CGI video that some of the devs came up with for E3, the game was barely playable and it had no flying. Patrick Soderlund an EA executive saw the video and told Bioware to add flying to the game. The entire development of this game was insane.
Watchdogs: No game has been downgraded more than me.
Anthem: Hold my overpriced DLC.
At least watchdogs turned about to be decent not hot garbage like this
@@-Tony-Gunk- not just that, watchdogs can be set as almost as high the E3 demo, with some hidden files in game directory and some tweaking to the ini files, but Anthem? Aw hell naw
I mean tbh I’d rather play this then cyberpunk 2077 😭
Lol
@@adityanayak6327 there are no hidden files in game thats was the media said about "the worse" mod and they said it was unlocking the e3 graphics but its just a mod but there are actual mods that emulate e3 and in some cases may look better like watch dogs reborn, revival etc
I don't like these too strong words you say about the game's graphics: "incredible", "gorgeous", fuck it. The game looks pretty much like every other game realesed in 2015-2019. There's nothing to be amazed with.
The vericality still seems impressive, although the loading screens gutted the open word here.
Well maybe but I'm going to give you a recent example, Metro Exodus that game looks better than the Retail version!
To each their own my friend. I think Anthem looks great. Not quite as good as Metro Exodus was earlier this month, but still pretty damn good.
kik0sasa I think remembering that this game also has to maintain servers with more players in this world makes it super cpu heavy for all consoles. It’s almost impossible for multiplayer games to look like a single player game...
I mean, it's a Frostbite game. Looks like other recent Frostbite based games. They all look pretty good, but not like mind blowing.

so youre telling me, when they revealed the game demo, it wasnt even a game?
@@paisflo7624
yep, Bioware staffs hadnt known Anthem would look like until the demo
they didnt even know what type of game Anthem would be
@@paisflo7624 Yeah. It was in Pre-production from 2012 until after the E3 2017 trailer. There was no game to show at E3 that year. Despite the claim at the beginning of the trailer, it was all a CGI, pre-rendered cinematic. The actual game was thrown together in the next 12-16 months.
Probably been said already, but it is what is commonly known in the industry as a "target render". This is to show the concept of the game without the actual game. Then during development they try and match it as best they can after getting investment. They really should either not show these publicly or state in big letters that it's a target render.
For me, the colouring is the worst thing. The greens look really bland and there is a lack of dark browns contrasting with the green. Now it’s all beige and a washed out green.
