gave up on regritting the mdf wheel, made an 8" plywood wheel, glued on 240 grit emery sandpaper, lasting over 50 sharpening and still going without any signs of failing!!!!
I trued my first paper wheel with my Tormek trueing tool. The 2nd wheel I trued had horrible results. The bit on the truing tool isn't sharp anymore, which made the paper wheel rip and tear, rather than cut. I'll try the sandpaper+block trick. So difficult finding info on this, thank you!
I have put elmers glue on wheel and grit is still coming off on sections. I put glue on wheels and spread it evenly with a piece of cardboard and just not good luck, thinking of trying gorilla wood glue. Any suggestions? I do take a piece of wood with sandpaper and always get a fresh surface too.
To be honest, I have experienced the same thing. I am not sure if the MDF wheel is absorbing the glue faster in some places than others or if some of the grit gets saturated with glue and causes it to stick better or worse than in other areas. Id be a little apprehensive about using gorilla glue because that stuff is thick and strong. It creates a plastic like hardness. That said, you could try it and if it doesn't work, use a chisel to get it off (like a lathe).
I've got the razor sharp wheels, work great for about 5 knives, then need regritting. Trying different glues, anyone having grit retention problems/ fixes? Razor sharp says should be able to do 100 knives......

@@jawbaw6471 Good afternoon. I watched a video where they slowly rotated the wheel applying the wax. After a few rotations, dump a teaspoon or so in the palm of your hand. Place your hand under the wheel(with the grit of course) slowly rotating until you get an even coat. Sorry I don't have the link for the video, but it's a really easy process. Take care and God bless!

Sure thing! Have you thought about trying to sharpen the bit on the truing tool?
@@roycemark Nope, sandpaper+glass appears to be my solution! My life will now continue. Thanks again!

Don't use the foamy gorilla glue it's a damn mess. Stick with Titebond or similar.

Thanks; nice job presenting informant I needed!
Thanks for saving me the money; my whetstones I expect to fall out of flat, but not to have to true what ought to be true from the manufacturer.
How long does the grit last on the wheel? Mine came right off again.
Do you still grit problem?

Sounds like your whispering, if you speak louder it will be easier for us old guys ;-)
I am thinking of going to this system. So you are saying the wheels were out of round verses wobbling side to side?
Very very very excellent I like it

Would've been a much better video if you showed the process, not just the end result.
Use the wax to apply the grit next time, works wonders!
thalegacy6 -- Interesting. Can you direct me to more info?

Where can I purchase 180 grit silicone carbide grit/powder? Thank you........
Mine came with the MDF sharpening wheels. Sorry, I don't know another source off the top of my head.
I got a bag of it from Amazon.
ebay has everything. and they are not amazon.
Not a good idea to draw arrows to show rotation direction, then add a bunch of distracting stickers to the mix.
They're not square.
