So Milbury antagonizes an 18 YO kid, and then baits him with a wickedly innapropriate question for a professional interview, Ryan answers with creativity and then Milbury tells him to kick rocks? Like, what is your goal? What is your job? If you don’t want to draft him, then don’t draft him. Mike thought he was playing 4D chess with the “guess what my motives are” type of BS question. What a man-child. Ryan should have brought up the shoe incident.

In my opinion Terry Ryan may be the first Montreal Canadien draft pick to suffer their mishandling of prospects and so much so it robbed him of any chance of having an NHL career. There was a time there was no better organization in the NHL than the Montreal Canadiens and one of the things that made them the best was how they developed young players. They were sent to a minor league team which was run by trusted coaches, many former players and top organizational people. They learned the winning ways of the big club, learned the system they would be expected to play with Montreal and most of all, their confidence was supported and built upon. When they won the cup in '86 they had young players like Claude Lemieux, Stephane Richer and Chris Chelios and those players were learning from masters like Gainey and Robinson. In fact, Chris Chelios' played his first NHL game (and many more after) with Larry Robinson as his defense partner. THAT is how to run a club! Terry Ryan was never given half a chance to show what he was capable of doing in the NHL. He played 4 games his first year, 3 the next and then the team gave up on him and he only played one more NHL game. But the problem is that he wasn't playing with their top players, he wasn't playing on the power play, he wasn't given any chance at all to show whether he could contribute anything. He spent those 8 games on the 4th line, playing just a few minutes a night on a lousy team with lousy players. They couldn't have done worse to ruin the man's confidence had they been trying to do just that. And here we are more than 25 years later and they are still making the same mistakes now that they were then. Ryan Poehling is the latest example of someone who is going through this. It's too bad because I believe 100% that Ryan could have easily been a 20-25 goal guy, steady and physical. But nope...such a waste. Sorry Terry, you deserved better!
Wouldn't be surprised that poehling turns into a good player for the flyers.

You'd never know it from the numbers, but Terry Ryan probably had one of the greatest careers ever in hockey.

Terry Ryan sadly was a NHL bust. I used to play hockey league simulator with online friends around this time. In this draft I actually took 6'6" Teemu Riihijarvi who was taken 12th overall by the Sharks. He never even left Finland so he was a real life bust. In my sim league, he was awesome!

Mike Millbury is a miserable human. Was in a cramped train with him during the 2010 Olympics. Standing room only in the train and it was jam packed. Millbury just glares and grumbles at anyone pushed up against him
It's funny how Terry absolutely answered everything perfectly and Milbury didn't get that that's what he was looking for... If you throw shittest at people and they ace it, you can't go crazy on them that's just pure failure... Cheers y'all!

Hi Meet Phil Esposito in Nutrisystem in Pleasantville New York. My wife was running the operation I came in to pick her up to go to lunch and I said do you know who that is and she knew but didn’t understand who he really was. I went over to say hello to him and he stood up. Perfect gentleman nicest guy you want to meet the biggest pair of hands you ever saw a human being. He actually would prefer to talk hockey but he had some sponsorship deal. He was meeting other people there 100% greatest guy in the game so cordial so friendly so articulate.

Aside from his gruff personality - the internet is full of quotes from his time at the helm in Long Island, though my favourite was when he said that player agent Paul Kraus was “depriving some village of a pretty good idiot” - it was the sheer magnitude with which some of his trades failed. He traded Todd Bertuzzi, Bryan McCabe and the pick that turned into Jarkko Ruutu to Vancouver for an aging Trevor Linden.
He dealt Roberto Luongo and Olli Jokinen to Florida for Oleg Kvasha and Mark Parrish. He drafted Rick DiPietro first overall, rather than taking Dany Heatley or Marian Gaborik. He sent Jason Spezza, Zdeno Chara and Bill Muckalt to Ottawa for Alexei Yashin. He ruined a franchise in search of immediate dividends, and still has the hatred of Islanders fans today.
If anything, though, Milbury has worked hard at becoming more disliked by more people since moving into broadcasting. Whether he’s referring to the Russian national team has playing a “Eurotrash game,” talking about the “pansification” of hockey, referring to the Sedin twins as “Thelma and Louise,” analyzing about the Washington “Crapitals,” ridiculing Alex Semin as “a lazy, overpaid talent not worth the time,” threatening to send hockey players to beat up “meathead” Tiger “Wuss” Woods, talking about the German national team “getting peed on” by the Canadian squad or just defending his lackluster record as Islanders manager, he’s been nothing if not polarizing.

Former Boston Bruins player and coach Mike Milbury has been charged with assault and battery on a child after an incident at a pee-wee hockey game.
Milbury, who is currently an NHL analyst for Versus' "NHL Live," as well as the CBC's "Hockey Night in Canada," also was charged with threats to commit a crime and disorderly conduct after allegedly verbally and physically assaulting a 12-year-old boy during a Dec. 9 game at the rink at Larz Andersen Park in Brookline, Mass.

Milbury is maybe the least intelligent person in the history of hockey. Perfect example of a guy that could play but can’t do ANYTHING else in the sport. The fact that the guy gets jobs is amazing. He destroyed the Islanders (no I’m not an Islander fan) and every time he opens his mouth on NBC I want to punch him. He’s the Matt Millen of the NHL. But maybe even worse.

Just for the locker room you need a boy from the Rock to say something odd and lighten the mood. there is always some story of screwing a moose in Gander or a seal or something so odd that you have to pause and look at each other and laugh. He only did 8 games in the show, but sounds like a hellova dude.
