PLEASE remember hawks. I’m a falconer. Any of my larger birds would scoop up a ferret gladly. You live in a very heavy bird of prey area as well. Huge thing to consider.

I think it would be cool if you mad an "underground" tunnel where you use a tunnel and then put dirt over it except the ends with maybe a few holes to pop up and look around and then eventually you could grow grass on there too

There are lots of TikTok videos of ferrets doing crazy and funny things and you show how cute they are when the just want to relax with you. With the tunnels if you don't plan on fully enclosing the space make sure you check for other animals using them before letting your ferrets just take off into them. Or have plugs for them so when your done playing you can close them off. Also if you can pick plants that grow large root systems fast it will help to keep the ground together so the burrows can be strong.

I understand the fear for cateo, but what if instead of stairs it was lined with tupes that lead to dark boxes that could be accessed? In the tunnel complex maybe lead it to the ground with low leveled to decrease probability for harm? Idk just an idea my wife wants a ferret, so we are looking into different ideas ^^ figured I would kind of throw that out there because I think there is some wonderful possibility for an outdoor enclosed area especially in areas with tons of aerial predators o.o.
If you're going to build a pond, be aware of the following. I have ferrets and a large pond. They will ALWAYS eventually drop into the pond. So they should be able to easily get out. They won't drown immediately but they will eventually. Make sure your borders are low enough for them to climb out easily.

Yeah I really like this, I was looking into ferrets a little bit but the tall ferret nation type cages just don't make sense to me with how clumsy they are I feel they would rather have a flat set up rather than a tall one.

I just discovered it last week and will be a regular viewer...I love my fuzzies sooo much and they've slowly but surely burrowed into a permanent place in my heart. Twelve years ago I didn't know much at all about ferrets, now I can't see my life without them! Problem is, they have a lot of misunderstanding associated with them. I feel it's becoming my life's purpose to change that lol. You are waaaay ahead of me, even though I let them free roam and spent thousands of dollars ferret proofing and enriching my house for their safety/entertainment. ( I live in their cage lol.) They have a dedicated room with two large cages connected by a bubble tunnel with all the bells and whistles but I got tired of feeling bad putting them in there when I went to work, so I put a ramp up so they can enter and exit as they please and opened my whole house for them. I'm rambling...my bad. Keep up the great work! Good luck on the enclosure, can't wait to see how it turns out! One thing that you might consider tho: if there are owls or hawks where you live, please allow for that. Maybe a cheap mosquito netting for when it's playtime outdoors. It could be easily rolled up/stored when not in use...Hate to be a damper, but it's better safe than sorry...take care!
I'm guessing you could do a catio if made sure ways up were tunnels rather than ramps so couldn't fall and if put using maybe mesh or wood on the sides that are open so couldn't fall of the ledges. Then if you don't have a big space could makes use of the hight and do like in the cages and in rabbit hutches that have multiple levels the floor could have a sand pit and buried tubes and little water feature using pond liners and buried bricks and pump with a little water fall. I've not got a ferret yet as atm I'm saving to get the ferret nation but want multiples in the same way when I got a crate and pen for my dogs I want to get the best and biggest 1st time or in the pen case 1s that easy to buy as save more to get add ons to expand which the pen I have would be good as a temporary outside area as could make a mesh roof for it and add things then as get the majority of the garden ferret proof which is also going to be dog proof since our youngest has decided to try and dog out so only allowed full access supervised but also make so things like the sand pit and water area can be for both although won't be out unsupervised together if together at all depending how they get along. My shepherd likes to mother the cat so can't see issues with her but our leonberger is very bouncy so also want him to be bit older and calm down b4 I get. Just looking into everything to see what can do now so it's already done and can make use from the start especially since I want minimum 2 1 for me and 1 for my son as he loves just as much

yeah.. ferrets are sometimes .. not graceful lol wonky war dances bumping into walls falling off everything. but that's part of their charm. ferrets are so adorbs doing practically anything.

Maybe dig a big hole in the ground and build a upside down cement bunker. So like a cement box with no lid about 3 foot deep so they can tunnel without getting out and then just build the cage topper

Something else you could look at would be wildlife rehabilitation release enclosures, or educational animal enclosures specifically for minks. 🤷🏻♀️

Yeah I really like this, I was looking into ferrets a little bit but the tall ferret nation type cages just don't make sense to me with how clumsy they are I feel they would rather have a flat set up rather than a tall one.
