Controversial opinion : Franchise is a good idea, so long as CLUBS CAN'T MOVE LOCATION ! If the league held the clubs licence, then they could boot out unscrupulous owners and the club and their league status would be protected. This would stop many clubs from going bust ( Bury FC ) There would need to be other rules in place too to stop further mis-management though. With all due respect as it's largely a good video, please don't call it a derby. It's definitely not a derby. Even the term rivalry is controversial, but a derby has to be a game between local rivals and these 2 aren't local.
Hello Good video. Carlisle United fan here. We as football fans should indeed never forget this. It should never be allowed to happen again! EVER!! For AFC Wimbledon fans it is of course going to matter. The perception of MK with the wider football community is partly rooted in a fairly snooty attitude and perception of the town of Milton Keynes. Winkleman is and will always be more than just a ‘pantomime villain’. I think we should never forget but should move on from ‘hating’ Milton Keynes. I can’t help but be happy for Wimbledon though.
If Franchise gets relegated out of the league, then we can start moving on from “hating” them. Twenty years of Milton Keynes playing in a spot they didn’t earn is worse than 19 years of it, but better than 21 years. Heck, if they gave up their spot voluntarily and decided to start over in the combined counties league, they could name their club “True Dons 1988 FA Cup Champions” if they wanted as far as I’m concerned
MK is still playing in a spot they didn’t earn. They continue to be a disgrace to football right now, in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-four. If they want the animosity dropped, they can give up their spot in the league to the country’s top non-league side, drop the name Dons, and try to earn a spot in the league like everyone else did
@@aidanwotherspoon905 surely the blame lies with Wimbledon board, if they had run the club correctly it would still have been in existence as it was, can't blame mk for keeping it alive at the time, all beit 100 miles away
Any true Football fan would know, Football is built on its past. I have never been to MK, never will. If my team got them in a Final I wouldn't go. I want zero to do with MK. Lose the Dons, give the History back is a must. Drop down 6 divisions and build the way back up, OK, but still no for me. The fact they offer a Franchise Pizza in the Ground sums them up. ALWAYS a franchise, never a real football club. Not a Wimbledon fan, but always love when they stuff MK, would love to see them back in the Prem, just to help put right what was allowed to happen by the corruption of Football. Football has a proud tradition of Building from the roots, foraging a history to be proud of. Any MK fan that thinks they a football fan are just not. the Franchise, rent a crowd. Football stands United with Wimbledon FC (the A should be removed to give them their true name back)
We were told that no matter what we did, there was no chance of stopping the move of WFC to MK. I even have a letter from WFC director (or whatever his title was at the time) Charles Koppel, replying to my letter to him that the decision about the move was final and would not be changed.
We’ve always had a hardcore fanbase of a few thousand fans. Probably no different to Brentford or Bournemouth (although theirs have no doubt grown over the years). The move to Selhurst came when crowds in 🇬🇧 were at an all time low in the early 90’s. It was only after Euro 96 that things changed in that regard. Being homeless for 10+ years and playing home games in another part of London gave us little opportunity to build our fanbase and lay foundations while other clubs attendances were growing. If we hadn’t left Plough Lane when we did there’s no reason why Wimbledon couldn’t be a thriving Prem club today. Our demise in the early 2000’s no doubt helped Fulham who picked up plenty of Premier League fans. Not making the football league until 1977 and being surrounded by plenty of much bigger clubs, we were always going to be up against it in terms of competing against the Chelsea’s and other London clubs. Ultimately, we were too vulnerable as we were a championship club and had no ground or training ground, with owners who had no intention of returning the club to Wimbledon. At least our fans showed them the way.
Back in the 1970s when WFC were in the old southern league (non league, now National league level), we were getting average crowds of around 2,000 and then 9 years after entering the football league, we found ourselves in the 1st division (now premier) with a non league standard ground and a very short period in which to grow our fan base, and when you have bigger and well established traditional football clubs already on your doorstep our attendances aren't going to grow overnight, and that was one of the main problems for us back then, always playing catch up and with it being a time of hooliganism in football made it even harder to encourage new fans to come along. We climbed too high too quickly and couldn't catch up financially with top tier clubs getting richer and richer. It also didn't help that home clubs were allowed to keep the gate money instead of sharing it with the away team like they used to.
@@davidburgess189 , thank you for your well reasoned reply. I always understand these kinds of videos and why the general public hate the MK Dons, and they always will. I live in MK, we have STs, I didn't grow up an MK Dons fan (I'm too old), but my boys are and when you go there are thousands of young fans just trying to support their local team. There's a lot of backstory to the move, much of which isn't widely known and paint it in a better light, but putting it out there will never change people's minds. At some point hopefully the football community can move on. For example Arsenal never actually won promotion to the top flight, they were awarded it, but it was so long ago everyone has moved on.

Terrible owner.
Loved this result
Do you know the owner?
@mark8364 Yes he's a scoundrel and should have no place in football
Controversial opinion : Franchise is a good idea, so long as CLUBS CAN'T MOVE LOCATION ! If the league held the clubs licence, then they could boot out unscrupulous owners and the club and their league status would be protected. This would stop many clubs from going bust ( Bury FC ) There would need to be other rules in place too to stop further mis-management though. And they would still need to be independently owned and ran properly.
Luke Payne, voice of the nobody
Ah yes a generic comment objecting to my existence but can’t actually argue against anything I’ve said 😂😂
How would Mk fans feel if they were abandoned, MK should have been forced to play through leagues from grass roots, non league clubs have to fight for league status,I blame the F A ,they know the price of everything and the value of nothing,it's Not Mk fault but they have no credibility,All the best to Wimbledon what they achieved is remarkable
would of been a lot better video if you did not have that no mark luke payne in it, he has been proved a liar, he is a shit stirrer and yet tries to portray himself as a mr goody two shoes, would of been an 8 out of 10 vid, but he sadly knocks it to a 5 out of ten, good to see you be truthful and an honest account of the game and the wimbledon fans vs the mk customers
I did try to interview multiple Wimbledon fans as well but unfortunately no one replied to me!
I notice you take no problem with what I was saying so this appears to be a protest for the sake of protesting. Thanks for the glowing review though! ;)
Would have....
it’s about time they become Milton Keynes FC and distance themselves from the whole ‘Dons’ thing, only way they have any possibility of having some kind of integrity as a club.
I’d agree, I think keeping the ‘Dons’ is almost mocking Wimbledon.
Not at all. The only people that should be allowed to make such a decision are the fans that followed the club from Wimbledon to MK. Removing Dons without consulting them would be far too disrespectful
@@lukepayne6664removing a football club, plopping it down somewhere else, and pretending it's the same club without consulting the fans is pretty disrespectful, don't you think?
@@lukepayne6664the name comes from Wimbledon. The only people who should be consulted are people who live there
@@TFSS i think they are mocking themselves but just can't see it.
They should have gone to Belfast
They are not our rivals.
Luke is so delusional I feel a bit sorry for him
Would love to know what you thought I said was wrong. Pretty much everything I said was backed-up with facts and I focused mostly on my own club. I even predicted the nature of the game to a tee, only getting the scoreline wrong
@@lukepayne6664 you're an mk fan is the issue. Support a real club
I support one of my local sides, same as anyone else. There’s an entire generation that grew up supporting The Dons in MK now
@@lukepayne6664 “I wouldn’t consider it too different to us playing Wycombe”.
Your social media team were obsessed with us in the buildup to yesterday. Your manager called the fixture the biggest of the year asking for your fans to bring their aunties🤣. Saying the hate is one-sided is pure revisionism. Your fans give it to us just as much as we give it to you. Every time we play you at the Lane a bunch of franchise kids show up trying to give it the large like it’s still the 1980s.
@@lukepayne6664 doesn't matter. You're still an MK fan
Stadium is way too big for such a soulless tinpot football club.Should rebrand and start off in 7 divisions below national lg like everyone else
It's just a football team MK Dons
MK are a disgrace to football. Shortcutters. If Milton Keynes wanted a football club they should have started at the bottom like everybody else. They should be reviled for as long as they exist.
Drop the Dons name, rename them MK City !!
Lose the Dons name and Flags with FA cup winners 1988 and we can move on...simples!!!
This is a Knob typical SMALL Club 🤣🤣🤣🤣
No one cares about them, so how can they hate them
With all due respect as it's largely a good video, please don't call it a derby. It's definitely not a derby. Even the term rivalry is controversial, but a derby has to be a game between local rivals and these 2 aren't local.
Hello
Good video.
Sort of surprised to see the empty seats galore.
I am sort of neutral but if I lived within 30 miles I’d be there! It was going to be a proper clash!
There was 10,500 in the end, not bad for the level but still I thought there would be more neutrals.
MKFC or MK Bucks
Time to stop this animosity. Happened twenty years ago and you can’t change history.
MK is still playing in a spot they didn’t earn. They continue to be a disgrace to football right now, in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-four. If they want the animosity dropped, they can give up their spot in the league to the country’s top non-league side, drop the name Dons, and try to earn a spot in the league like everyone else did
they should drop the dons name otherwise no one will stop hating them
Don't be silly. This must never be allowed to happen again. Imagine this happening to your club.
@@aidanwotherspoon905 , Arsenal are playing in a spot they didn't earn. Let's relegate them at the same time I guess.
I take it you don't watch the news much then bud?
The sooner mk go out the league the better ,😅

No chance! Everyone hates MK😂
@@diddleysquat6644 Totally agree. Not an MK supporter and I don't hate them.
20 years with a spot in the league they didn’t earn is worse than 19 years, but not as bad as 21. Franchise for relegation!
@@aidanwotherspoon905 surely the blame lies with Wimbledon board, if they had run the club correctly it would still have been in existence as it was, can't blame mk for keeping it alive at the time, all beit 100 miles away
Would you let it go if it had been your club ? Probably not.
Football stands United with Wimbledon FC (the A should be removed to give them their true name back)
It’s a shame those Wimbledon fans didn’t go back in the day, the club might have survived.
Behave yourself you obviously don’t understand a thing
