Congrats Rich and Edison! On hiring an excellent mechanic, fabricator and prototype VP.
Thanks Christopher! Much appreciated
Glad to hear you brought Rich on to the team, thats going to be great! Been subscribed to Deboss Garage since the LS AMG build.
If you guys need some circuit boards designed and programmed, I've done that stuff and worked with CAN Bus so I'd love to help out. I live close enough to Dunnville to drop off circuit board prototypes and such.
Thanks,
Marcus
I can’t wait!!! 1997 F-350 CCLB in my garage waiting!!!
I'm an electrical contractor in NS, & I drive a 2018 Ram 2500. I wish my truck was a diesel electric for when I'm pulling my trailer and excavator, as well as just all the driving. Would give me tons of torque with much better fuel milage. Keep up the good work.
Congratz on joining Edison Rich!
Rich, just received your shirt, they took a while to get here but Australia is a long way away from you, nice shirts and great quality, thank you and all the best to you guys. Allan
Independent suspension question for Edison...
Considering that the center section is where all of your custom stuff lives, would it be equally as easy to bolt on a bearing and seal holder that would allow for half-shafts to be connected. After that, retaining all of the stock suspension and brakes would make sense for independent suspension also.
Consider a Ford Expedition, for example.
I love what you are doing and how you are going about doing it! Keep up the good work and sharing the results with the world!
I think some things might be easier with independent suspension, but the larger space requirement would be problematic. With a solid axle, you can simply add an inch of lift if required.
Thanks Rich and Eric. Really appreciate the update. My first Edison conversion will likey be into an 06 F-550 thats got a blown 6.0; its interesting to learn that the 3.8 might be the go to for post 1999 trucks...
Another option for down the road, put a electric axel under trailer tied together with truck. Your team is living the dream. Have fun!!
After a most of your testing is done. Maybe look at an emergency release to the battery pack. That way if a battery pack does catch on fire you can release them and roll the truck off them. That would surely make people feel safer if there is a way to dump a battery pack. Even if it’s just aluminum straps that melt and drop them. Might also want to have a battery disconnect relay that triggers with an airbag deployment. That way an accident doesn’t cause a short and fire.
I believe they are using LFP batteries, which are very unlikely to experience thermal runaway or even burn from an external source.
I'm also under the impression they are using the safer Lithium Iron Phosphate chemistry batteries rather than the more flammable Lithium Ion type.
They are changing to LMO batteries. All Lithium batteries suffer from thermal runaway.
Batteries are bolted in like engines.
Humorously, I can imagine a rocket powered battery ejection system, but it's just not practical.
A sacrificial strap is brilliant
It depends on the battery box. We had one of the Lion school buses catch fire near where I live, and the batteries never burned at all.
I just finishing up a 1978 f250 restoration. I'm going to work on putting a few more $ together after this is done. I would love to be able to put one of these kits under a classic f250
When I first saw Edison videos a couple years ago during the Blue truck, I commented that I wanted to see a Deboss crossover somehow, and boy howdy did it ever happen. From a glint in the eye to VP of regular people trucks.
Great minds think alike
you guys are going to kill it with the regular guy truck market.. guys like me who can only afford one vehicle- who only needs a truck to tow a boat or camper on the weekends, but gets killed in gass all week commuting to work- this would save me thousands of dollars every year in gas being able to be electric for daily driving and then still having the range to tow my boat a few hundred miles.. make this happen and take my money
Congratulations!
I really like the transparency, you all show. The hard work of a small town, and your vision for the future.
I'm sure there is a large investment of donated time in the hope of a good pay off. I wish you well in your endeavors !
I can't wait to see the numbers.
I hope you do some real world ag hauling with the dodge, you know 30' goose neck double stacked with round bails, stuff like that.
Thank you
Lotto dreams. Go to space, have Rich build a truck.
a hybrid land cruiser would be my dream truck
This is awesome. I'm super excited for the pickup kits!!
Thanks!
Getting excited, my 2000 F250 Super Duty is chomping at the bit to be converted!!
Was watching the BYD Shark tear down on Munro live. Very similar concept, but in a smaller package. Definitely the way forward for longer range vehicles.
Its encouraging to know that if a massive company like BYD can do it, there is nothing stopping us. When you think its a good idea but nobody else is doing it, you have to wonder as you are trying to fall asleep at night if this is actually a good idea or not. The nice thing is we are converting existing trucks, not building new, and there are 160 000 000 pickups in North America. We just need to convert some of them
Hey filthy rich, & Eric, Keep up the great content! Mr. MoFO
Thanks John! We see no shortage of content coming up this year!
I'm hoping to help bring this tech to Colorado in the future.
I can't wait till this is out, I have plans for this
I sure as fuck wish i had an onboard generator when i ran out of battery today 😂
All righty then! Check out that Toyota Forklift!!! you might want to spend a minute on that beast! It could use a spit shine!!!
Would be supper to get a kit to install strait to a normal pickup compared to expensive changes.
Loving this! So happy for more Eric content lately! 😊
21st century documentation too!
Some Canadian inventors who worked with electricity include:
Henry Woodward and Mathew Evans: In 1874, these Toronto inventors patented an incandescent light bulb made of a glass tube filled with nitrogen gas and a carbon filament. They sold the patent to Thomas Edison in 1879.
Thomas Ahearn: An electrical engineer and businessman from Ottawa, Ahearn invented the electric cooking range and drove the first electric car in Ottawa in 1899. He was also a philanthropist and a director of the Bank of Canada.
George Cove: An inventor known for early solar electric generation equipment.
I would love to see a video on what your plan is for 1/2 ton 1500 model pickup trucks.
I have two - a 1961 Chevy routing in my yard that I'm hoping to remodel and a 2009 Chevy 4x4. I'd really like to electrify both of those in the coming years. But, I don't want to use the gas hog engines currently in the trucks. So I'm curious what y'all would have as an option for those smaller trucks.
Great project! Just kills me on the dependency on the only supply chain choices that are available.
Pull the camper out and camp out on the new Edison site. :D
Hmm. By summer Edison should be busy over at Golden. Ya. Stop at Golden.
We just bought an old airstream, and that is the exact point. Nice housing for the Engineers while they are staying at my place, and it will end up in Golden
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
I would think with the regenerative braking that the stock service brakes would almost last forever, way longer than normal anyways and any concern of excessive heat and warpage should be very minimal too. 👍
That's why I left the drum brakes on. Really counting on this regen
Seriously. Edison trucks with new "lifetime" brakes.
Your channel is where every video is a true work of art. Thank you for your creative energy and passion!🏜📀🤗
Super excited to see how this moves along!
Great update. I am confused though when it comes to the axle/ differential. Have you substituted a "electronic diff" for the mechanical?
Yes, trying to keep it simple
How awesome that yall are racing Ram to put out a Ramcharger hahaha
Now there's a video. The Ram RamCharger VS the Edison Ram Recharger. Compare cost, hp, torque, range, etc
I love these videos, but could you please bring us under the hood again? I really enjoyed watching you guys work.
Last vdeo on Deboss Garage has putting the engine and generator under the hood
Petrol & EV each have downsides.
The Edison design allows them to perfectly complement each other.
Did it say Rich Bosch at the beginning? 😂
Today I learned that Rich Bosch is da boss at "DeBoss Garage". Little play on words there.
Does scania make a small enough engine to put in the pickup and avoid dpf systems with def fluid needed?
I think 9 liters is smallest scania
Already saving up for a F-150 kit.
Hope you incorporate a differential lock mechanism into the design......makes lots of performance difference.
100% want a truck. 3/4, is that as small as you are going to go? Will I still have the same or similar towing capabilities? Age of truck, any limitations on how old or new?
I have a 4 cylinder base model 2013 Tacoma that would love to be an Edison hybrid. ;) One has to wonder where the big 3 American pickup manufacturers' (+ Toyota's) heads are at with the capital & infrastructure at their disposal. Aside from a few attempts at full EV's & overcomplex non-plugin hybrids there's nothing like what you are offering on the market. Surely they're watching, or maybe just us common folks & Shirley.
Who hasn't had a job where they felt like the VP of WTF? 😂
Would I be able to put the whole kit cummins engine and all in my 2025 and 2011 F550 Super Duty King Ranch
How is the control box on the generator going to clear the transmission tunnel on the cab?
That video is out on DeBoss Garage so you can see for yourself
Small world. I used to live near Dunnville Ontario now I live in between Golden and Merritt !!
The battery pack I feel should be more robust in the final iteration. For potential accident of damage etc. With shock absorbtion.
Rich can we try a platform with a piston swap to Speed of Air pistons and then retest on the dyno an emissions?
Speed Of Air tech surpasses emissions requirements. Just saying its worth the research....
It is, but we need something we all know and is reliable so we can figure out the back end of the kit. Once we have that sorted we can look at all different kinds of fuels and engines
✊Thanks for the update. I advise traders, especially beginners, to research the market before entering it. I have to say that trading is more rewarding than just owning. Big thanks to Austin Vincent who always keeps me updated. I am so glad I started his program🚀
I heard of Mr. Austin sometime ago on a different platform, not here on TH-cam. Pls, how can I contact him? I'm seriously tired of losing money trading 😔
He active on telegram;(

What is the real world ROI period on the hybrid pickup package? 100,000 km? 200,000 km?
It depends what you are using it for. Ever buy a government truck from auction? 45 000 miles and 30 000 hours on the engine. Figure out how much fuel that is just idling for HVAC
@@richbosch9564 Do you represent Edison Motors?
In a non commercial use setting, I suspect never. However, in a commercial use there is many other factors to consider, and the answer could be instantly in many applications. A welding rig, for example, wouldn't need to carry a second engine and generator around and that alone will save $20000-$50000.
How do you feel about turbine generators, in place of diesel? Lower maintenance, lower emissions, lower weight (high power:weight ratio), adaptable to any fuel, better power profile delivered to recharge batteries, more scalable (modular), lower noise (different pitch), better thermal management, smaller volume.
Capstone, JetCat, Williams, Rolls-Royce, Honeywell, Pratt & Whitney, Turbomeca Arriel, GE, and Solar Turbines are examples.
I'm not sure, but the price may not be competitive.
@@glenndennis6801 You're not wrong. At present scale of production, they're 2-4 (or more) times more expensive new than the nearest equivalent diesel engine, unless you're looking at the used market, such as converting from helicopter turbines, which I believe is price competitive, and still beats diesel on maintenance.
The 2.8 might pass later emissions regulations running at the steady RPM that the generator requires. It would be worth testing.
My dream is a hybrid wrecker so I can both haul break downs, as well as emergency charging of EVs out of juice.
Scandinavian Canadian ?
Watching your channel is always an exciting and educational journey. Continue to inspire and teach us with your talent!👹🥶♀️
It is weird to see a generator at the end of the engine instead of a transmission.
When doing the run to BC hauling the camper, you should try to get an identical gas/diesel run picked up to get a real life side by side comparison data.
That's not a bad idea. We are on a bit of a budget though. Might just have to be the LR defenders as a support vehicles for now
Hahaha Oh Chace!
The "Edison Way" with electric axles is just silly for "pickup" retrofits. So much cost, complexity and delay. Especially for a proof of concept. Just drive the original axles with conventional drivelines and get busy developing the control systems. Then test the emissions and efficiency and see what uses this concept is or is not good for.
I bet that with a good detune map, that "non-emissions-compliant" engine could pass 2014 emissions regulations
Not little eric
Cant wait to see the kits going into customers vehicles
When you put these E-axles to market, can you add a speedo calibration interface where the user can input the tire sizes being used? That way when someone puts on bigger or smaller tires their speedo and mile indicators remain correct
Holley just goes off GPS, and that would be the simplest solution
Didn’t you guys just buy a huge property? An old logging yard?
Yes, they did. Several videos about it out. They are even planning some "Westinghouses".
Edison did for their semi division. Rich is 1/2 way across the country in Ontario. If they can find an existing building in Ontario for Rich and his team it makes more economical sense right now to buy that than having to build something in BC which could take 3-4years.
Watching your channel is always an interesting and educational journey. Continue to lead us into the world of your creativity and inspire us!💙♂️🎋
You may have to change your motto to “Kicking the crap out of Tesla’s ideas”
I paid for a USA deposit on the EV Package. How can USA investors buy stock. Non accredited. please. I want to buy $20,000.00 and fund a hot shot refer trailer conversion in 2027. Go get the working truck business and Military. Add 280 kwh battery banks to the light tower trailers replacing ice generators, expense, noise. One truck recharges for an entire compound. Also charges ATV's and bikes for recon and silent attacks.
I'd like to invest too!
Have you seen what Torque Mountain EV is doing? th-cam.com/video/ref4hj53HIo/w-d-xo.html Model 3 Tesla drive unit in a custom CNC case mated to a Dana 44 axle set th-cam.com/video/xQGuxK4zPlo/w-d-xo.html Might be an option vs China?
Pulling a camper across America is a win for everyone!
Even if it is across Canada lol!
Maybe Trump can get some of epa rolled back or exempt for this type of application. Would open up the newer pickup market.
Your channel is not just a source of information, it is a source of inspiration and motivation. Thank you for your creativity and effort!👄👒♂️
If you guys get the chance go see and talk to the folks at Liquid piston .. with their ultra light, compact and turbine smooth running efficient gas and diesel rotatary engines.. Note 🧙🏼♂️🥼These are not Rotor wankle engines.. they use a modified combustion cycle and tend to be 30%+or more efficient compared to reciprocating ICE and generators. Imagine engine you could lift out with your hands or with just a couple of ordinary bods. 🤔🤞🏻
I would be worried about president Elon's plans.
I admire your ability to create quality content! Thank you for your hard work and creativity.🤚🥳🩸
Your videos are an exceptional combination of professionalism, quality and engaging. Keep up the good work!👺🛫🚥
When doing the run to BC hauling the camper, you should try to get an identical gas/diesel run picked up to get a real life side by side comparison data.
