My dad was stationed at Minot from 86-93. I still call it home even though I’m now in Texas.

Was stationed there in 62-63. I dated a girl that lived on a farm about 10 minutes west of Maxbass. We used to go to quite a few dances on sat nites in that little berg. Had a lot of fun with that kid and a lot of great memories.

GEN LeMay once said " In the Air Force we fly fighters because it's fun. We fly bombers because it's important". 23 Bomb Sq 1973-77.

Great job showing around Minot AFB. I left in 05 and you did a pretty good job showing what is there. the only areas you missed were 1) Bud Ebert Park, 2) the schools and 3) the Rec Center.

1970-1973 5th FIS Spitten' Kittens. Lived on Pembrook Lane and went to grade 5 and 6 at North Plains Elementary and grade 7 at Memorial Jr High... The Falcons in White and Blue. I started on the 7th grade team and we out to play the small towns around the base. We had ice rinks around the base housing with lights so we could skate at night.
The base has changed so much!
    State Bird .... Mosquito
    State Tree... Telephone Pole
    WHY NOT MINOT!

My cousin Dale was stationed at Minot AFB. He loved it. Wild weekend clubs, great golf courses. He got a dishonorable discharge after about a year.

What did he do to "earn" that?

@@LMTDDS well, Dale has a drinking problem. He’s a “mean” drunk. I’ll leave it at that.

    Spent 2 years as a missile field cop in 2019 - 2021
I can only speak for SF when I say that work wise, it's really easy. The downtime you get out in the field is great. The extreme temperatures do make living there very difficult depending on where you resided before you joined. Now that I've PCS'd I can confidently say my leadership was complete ass. My theory is that since it's not their 1st base, they can only remember all the good memories they had from their previous assignments and it makes them hate Minot even more, thus dragging ass through work and making the lives of airman pretty unbearable. But once you get past the trash ass leadership from Capt Dick n Balls, you'll find that Minot is a pretty decent spot as a 1st assignment. The gym is amazing and the base is fairly tight knit. All the girls have chlamydia and it's cold as tits, but don't forget... Your next assignment can only be better.

Then you remember the campers you SPs ran all over the countryside chasing rabbits and rolling trucks over in the winter! I worked mobile maintenance in the winter fixing the trucks you people broke! Probably way before you were even born!
1975-79. Did you make it to Fortuna? Or they closed it down and forgot about it before you got there! How about Forfar?

Sure seems to be an agreement that MAFB is NOT the place to be! Well, yes and no. I was there ‘75-‘79. Thank the lord for weed! The winters SUCKED! The summers were HOT! Worked mobile maintenance in the winter just because the mechanic couldn’t drive to the missile sites alone! My job was shotgun! 3 days on and 3days off. Which worked out to be more like 4 to 4.5 days on and 2 days off! In the summer we would raft the mighty Souris (mouse)! We’d put in off US-2 and raft completely through town! Good memories, bad location!

How come? Minot AFB when still SAC was our support base. 3 radar sites as the travelling dentist 70-72 incl. Opheim AFS in Mont. Going to Minot was like getting a short reprieve to go to Heaven....then back to the sites (now all long gone). Could walk up into Canada from our BOQ.

This is a joke right? Idk if more than 1% are happy to be there
This is the problem with the base, everyone pretends it's a great place to be and turns their head away from it's problems.

Minot, ND is a great city...MAFB not, just because nobody wants to be there and their attitudes reflect that.
