Too bad nobody does a demo where they actually PLAY the damn thing!

Wow, it's been a long time since I've been that unimpressed by a Synthesizer demo. Doesn't hardly seem worth even $59 (which is what it's on sale for).

When I import a sample it doesn't seem to change the sound I'm getting. Don't understand. I have tried importing a marimba or flute sample 1 and 3 seconds long. But all I can hear is the synth sound that comes with the plugin. Help somebody pleasies!!!

I would have to agree with you,but Codex is going for $29 now...so maybe it's not such a bad synth for the current coin...ha-ha.

This synth seams desent. Though, Serum sound better and is more in depth.

If you're trying to make head-slicing 11-year-old electronica, then Codex is not for you. Codex is for the more classical type of artists who seek analogue timbres.
Serum: best for the gnarly side of electronic music
Codex: best for the beautiful side of electronic music

      Twenty-Thousand Hertz
Listen here. Every synth as long as it is over a cerntain quality can do most electronics fairly well. you could not hear the difference in the context of a song anyways as long as good FX plugins were used. What I'm saying is that codex in terms of functions and ease of use can't compete with Massive or Serum. I am not talking about how wavetables sound I'm talking the ways you can manipulate the sound itself.

Twenty-Thousand Hertz just didn't care for the layout.

"Codex allows me to scan it smoothly and to create this type of sound" - this is how producer and developer explains wavetable synthesis (morphing wave cycle)?

***** Codex is a simplified Wavetable synth. For example the wavetable in Codex is 64 snapshots, Serum is 255 and you have countless operations and editing tools to modify even a single snapshot of the wavetables. Codex reverb = 1 knob, Serum is a full FX with HPF/LPF, reverb time and more (Serum has a full rack of effects including some new ones I've not seen before). LFOs are editable to be multi-segment in Serum, here they are basic waveforms. For some, Codex will be all they need. But it's simplified and (IMO) sonically inferior to other Wavetable synths.

      PlugInGuru
I've bought them both. The deal I got was $55 for codex, which was too good to pass up.Overall Codex is pretty good, but definitely lacks the depth of Serum.Codex sounds a bit warmer with a nicer bottom end for me,so far I'm preferring it for bass. But of late I've become a fan of cold digital sounds with an emphasis on metallic and glassy percussive type sounds anyway,so it's not a huge issue. For me, Codex is more for "quick and dirty" programming where I want to create a VA type sound but with the unique sounds that wavetables bring to the mix. Whereas Serum is more like an experimental lab whose possibilities are far more wide ranging, where I can create the sort of tonalities I've never heard before.

man I struggled to stay awake during that demonstration..... like I was waiting for the bass to hit me hard or a crazy lead.... all we got was a low voice and an uninspiring vocoder bass... I expect more from a company that wants $100-$1000 for the software......

Great job guys. This synth is wonderful. Yes, have tried Serum. These two synths sound different completely. This synth has a special character that just works and intense signal and audio-rate modulation sound very smooth indeed. Those wavetables are real nice as well. I like the one-page edit concept as well which makes pulling up a and programming a patch very fast indeed. Nice vid Yoad!

Got Codex for $29 and still feel I didn't get my money's worth. Compared to Serum or Massive, it's extremely weak and limited. Only 2 LFOs that you can sync with your DAW. Only 1 envelope aside from the amp and filter envelopes. Only 6 mod matrix slots and you can't sidechain sources, so if you want the mod wheel to control vibrato, you need to use one slot with an LFO for the vibrato speed, and then another slot for the mod wheel vibrato amount. That only leaves 4 more slots. Effects only have one editable parameter. EQ has fixed frequencies. No macro controls. It's barely worth $30. It's a total rip-off at $200. Very disappointing synth.

It seems a tad coincidental that it came out very close in time frame to Serum but i have to say it seems pretty cool i tried out the other waves synth plugin and i really like the simple to use all in one view gui it makes it easier for less sophisticated programmers to understand what is going on which is what i think waves target market really is at least for their synthesizers. Yeah it might not be as in depth as others but its purpose to me is to get that digital sound fast .

im a fan of waves plugins, however this does remind me of Nave for Ipad, but it seems a lot of the presets are aimed at the one finger players as they seems to be a lot of arp patches, and I dont exactly hate them I dont need them do all the work, and playing melodies for me. And speaking of presets, the patch management is VERY poor. There needs to be a browser where you can have separate categories of bass, leads, pads, fx, etc, instead of a long list of over 700 presets, dont you guys realize how much of a pain that is when youre looking for a bass or lead patch? That is also the case with Element.

So the main difference between Xfer Records Serum, and Waves Codex is that Waves Codex has Yoad Nevo's accent programmed into it's DNA?
    Cool.
