In a captivating exploration of one of India's most significant space missions, welcome to our video dissecting the Chandrayaan-2 mission and its unforeseen descent into uncertainty. Strap in as we delve into the riveting journey of India's second lunar endeavor, designed to flaunt its prowess in lunar surface landing.
The narrative begins on September 2nd when the Vikram lander boldly separated from the orbiter, marking a monumental step towards a successful lunar landing. Fast forward to September 7th, and the lander initiates its final descent, but as it neared a mere 2.8 kilometers from the lunar terrain, catastrophe unfolded - the lander inexplicably flipped, culminating in a crash that reverberated across the globe.
Our investigation navigates through the intricate details of this heart-stopping incident, meticulously examining the technical intricacies that may have contributed to this unforeseen twist. What anomalies or miscalculations prompted this dramatic flip mere moments before touchdown? We delve into these questions and more, shedding light on the underlying complexities of space exploration.
But our journey doesn't end there - a whisper of geopolitical undertones enters the narrative. Could there have been factors beyond technical challenges that influenced the fate of Chandrayaan-2?

It's impossible to jam the long wavelength radio signals which such communication links use. If China has an insider in ISRO to press the wrong button, then it's a different story. Or it may not even be China - it may be a disgruntled employee of ISRO, who did it. There is always competetion for promotion and recognition within such organisation.

The Indian government should be able test all of these hypotheses because there are traces of intrusions into systems, and can be tested if it was a genuine onboard problem or something transmitted. Also per protocol ISRO would have an exact replica of the Chandrayaan-2 and processor chipsets used and all program coding. If sabotage did occur the Indian government with NASA's help would have by now determined the cause however they may not disclose it publicly. Also one has to understand the final minutes of these missions are all automated, the distances are too vast to make any coarse correction transitions, its basically a blackout period until is lands. I think it was a technical glitch which will be corrected.

There are several issues that come up:
    1. Why does India need to connect vital facilities to the Internet? The core operations and R&D could be completely disconnected. If connectivity has to be provided between different R&D centers, these could be handled through dedicated, highly secure, fiber optic lines that India already has under one government agency or other.
    2. If the Kudankulam hack happened through the simple means of an email link sent to the top-most bureaucrats, then clearly something utterly stupid was allowed to happen: no link should be allowed to be opened unless vetted by some cyber agency, especially emails to the top bureaucrats of the organization, even emails ostensibly coming from internal "sources".
    3. Mr. Chavda refers to semiconductors used by ISRO that are foreign-sourced, so the malware could have been inserted here. That begs the question: if Apollo 11 that sent the first humans to the moon was made possible by technologies literally eons behind what is available today (for example, the electronics that go into a medium-priced smartphone today is about a million times more powerful than the one used in Apollo 11), then why not have ISRO collaborate with Semiconductor Corp (SCL) to design, make, and deliver indigenous semiconductors that are 25 years behind the current state of technology but still allow for computations to make our space endeavors possible? SCL, for example, does not have the technology or means to develop and manufacture, say, 1 nm chips, but it sure has the means to design and manufacture 40 nm ones. After all, ISRO's current space projects are still behind what NASA's Apollo 11 achieved and, even if ISRO gets to that point, it would still replicate NASA's achievement with lower technologies? Yes, this sounds utterly anachronistic - if we have the latest and greatest at our means, why go back to technologies that are ancient by comparison? The counter-intuitive argument is that: first, ISRO does not have to spend time and resources on ensuring we have anti-hacking mechanisms in place that cannot be foolproof by any means and, second, China or any other hacker would not be able to touch what is indigenous and, perhaps, an older technology that would not be amenable to new technologies, methods, programming tools, etc. Moreover, it would give ISRO the ability to work with less "horsepower" - ie, older technologies - and deliver the same results. That would be be cheaper and less prone to threats from outside.
    4. It is not just ISRO or the BARC facilities are that are exposed. The financial sector - another vital system - is equally exposed in its entirety as the Indian financial institutions are woefully under-equipped, lack awareness and knowledge, and merrily run without the slightest controls. Sucheta Dalal's YT videos document how privacy and security issues are exposed on a daily basis.
    5. All the above argue for a systematic review and an alternative model created in cooperation with leading academic institutions, security agencies, and the organizations involved. This would have to design for a set of concentric circles involving complete isolation, to fewer and monitored interfaces, to full integration to the Internet that can enable operations and customer engagement.

We are humans and we seek our explanations for our failures, and we improve. Even I was sad when Vikram Lander did not make it during Chandrayaan 2, but I do not know with certainty that china or anyone else had anything to do with our failure.
It is not like a machine connected to internet which can be hacked at run-time. Furthermore, the software for landing is autonomous and preprogrammed because the delay in communication signals prevent any real-time control, even by ISRO. Telemetry is a 1-way channel from spacecraft to the space agency. There is a very, very tiny possibility that software was hacked when Vikram's software was being programmed and installed before launch. But again, it is extremely tightly controlled, and I doubt ISRO wouldn't have found anything amiss even after 4 years of investigations and rather ISRO has already mentioned what the inadequacies were in the software.
